Boehner calls for Obama to fire Geithner

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption =" Boehner is delivering an economic address Tuesday."](CNN) – House Minority Leader John Boehner is calling on President Obama to fire Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and other top economic officials, according to prepared remarks from a speech the top House Republican is giving Tuesday morning in Cleveland.

"We have been told that the president's economic team is 'exhausted' – already, his budget director and his chief economist have moved on or are about to. Clearly, they see the writing on the wall, and the president should too," says Boehner. "President Obama should ask for – and accept – the resignations of the remaining members of his economic team, starting with Secretary Geithner and Larry Summers, the head of the National Economic Council."

The ten-term Republican from southwestern Ohio, who would become House Speaker if the Republicans win back control of the chamber in the November midterm elections, is scheduled to speak at the City Club of Cleveland.

Boehner's call for Geithner and Summers resignations is the fifth of five actions he is calling on Obama to immediately take to help improve the economy and stimulate job growth. The other four include urging the president to announce "he will not carry out his plan to impose job-killing tax hikes on families and small businesses" and "that he will veto any job-killing bills sent to his desk by a lame-duck Congress – including 'card check,' a national energy tax, and any other tax increases on families and small businesses."

Boehner also asks Obama to urge Congressional Democratic leaders to stop obstructing GOP attempts to repeal what he calls the new health care law's "job killing" mandate and calls on the president to submit an "aggressive spending reduction package" to Congress.

Democrats offered a "prebuttal" on Monday to Boehner's address. On a conference call with reporters, Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Democratic National Committee communications director Brad Woodhouse and Ohio Democratic Party chairman Chris Redfern pounded home the message that no matter what Boehner would say on Tuesday, his policies would bring America back to "the last eight years."

"More of the same," Wasserman-Schultz said. "Maybe repackaged into something shiny. But not that it's going to look or smell or taste like anything different."

The Democratic pushback continued Tuesday morning, with the DNC released a web video that charges that "it's John Boehner and Republicans who want to take us back to the Bush era economic policies that nearly sank our economy." LINK TO WEB AD:

If they are to be fired for doing nothing... then shouldn't "Boner" be fired too?

If they are to be fired because "their policies failed"... then shouldn't "Boner" be fired too?

Name one thing he has offered other than criticisim.

When John Boehner was asked what the Republican agenda would be if they won election, the man smugly replied, “TBD" = “To be determined!”

Republicans now believe that public anger alone can carry the party over the finish line for elections.

They’ve said that, in their view, getting bogged down in the issues is a distraction and even a potential liability.

... just repeating "job killing" is not a plan. Returning us to the days of no coverage for pre-exisitng conditions, being dropped when you get ill and yearly increases in health care costs accomplish nothing.

If GOP "trickle down" policies worked ... we would not be in this recession – but for the hard work of the Obama Presidency, would have been a depression!

As the prime example of a person who should have been fired many years ago, Beeno has a lot of nerve calling for anyone else to be fired.

And put that nasty finger back where you found it, Orangeman.

The Orange Man should be fired.

He's an idiot. Just repeating Hell No over and over and over (between golf games and tanning sessions) is NOT helping Ohio or the U.S.

Mr. Geithner can even do his own Income Tax properly, and he is in charge of the Treasury Dept. God help us, from the incompetency of the Obama administration. For they do not have the American people best interest at heart. They are so out of touch will the REAL problems Americans face daily, as they govern from their pedestals and take many high paying vacations.

It is time for this President to stop blaming backwards and take control.

Let us not forget this is not "Bush's economy" Congress has been under the control of the Democratic party for 6 years. Bush warned many times about Fannie and Freddy and he was ignored. Bush made mistakes no doubt I am not trying to say he was the best. Pouring money on the fire will not put it our Mr. President Obama!

  16. Can't We All Just Get Along?

Hey, the American public wanted Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rice, the whole Bushie bunch to resign! That was an utter failure of government, but they stayed and drove this country into the ground.

Obama's team is trying everything to help restore and rebuild this country from the ashes left by the Bushies. Why should ANYONE ask for their resignations when they're trying to do their jobs?

A better request would be for Obummie to fire Obummie. We were in an economic ditch that Obummie turned into the Grand Canyon.

Mr. Boehner, why don't you tell us your plan for the economy. If you have a plan other than tax cuts for the wealthy or just say NO plan, please tell us. Apparently the the tax cuts that have been in effect for a decade is not working or we would not have all the unemployment that we have. Maybe you can spin it that those tax cuts have simply worn out. People of Ohio please vote the loser out of office.

If anything, it's Boehner and his idiot friends that should get the ax. These buffons have contributed NOTHING to help ournation solve its problems. For someone fron the party of "NO" to say that someone should be fired is a complete joke.

Tan Man enough is enough the American voter wants to hear what your party plans to do to turn the country arround That McConnell as well as you cannot come up with a plan to fund the tax cuts to the very rich and you all cannot even admit they are unpaid for and will add big time to the deficit is not a good sign. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it and then what happens Will something actually happen to help the economy or will it be the same old same old. Will you all finally succeed in driving off the cliff which you almost did under Bush?? I personally hope your attempting to terrorize the voters into putting you back in office backfires. I have to believe the American voter is so much smarter but we will see in November.

Mr. Boehner. Who would replace them if they were 'fired". Clearly, the policies you put forth during your time as the majority didn't work. I'm not absolving the Obama administration either.

But what are you offering? Everyday, all we hear are tax cuts. I mean, States are broke now because of no revenue. You cut taxes, that means you'll have to cut jobs from the government. That mean more unemployment. Remember, there are no jobs for those people to go to. Cutting taxes may help in the short term, but a report a few days ago stated, that would ADD to the already large deficit.

Please come up with NEW ideas. If the tax cut was so good, why did YOU and the GOP put a time limit on it in the 1st place???
