At Beck rally, MLK's niece says civil rights leader 'would sure commend us'

(CNN) - The niece of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. said that her uncle would approve of conservative talk show host Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally unfolding Saturday in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, the same place where the civil rights leader delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech 47 years ago.

"If Uncle Martin could be here today, he would sure commend us of giving honor where honor is due," Alveda King told a large, cheering crowd.

I can't decide whether Glenn Beck reminds me more of Elmer Gantry...or Elmer Fudd...thoughts...?

So King's niece supports Beck while the NAACP's Jealous attacks him. Why the contrast? Simple: Jealous is jealous of Glenn Beck because he is successful, intelligent, articulate, and supports advancement based on merit as opposed to wearing a chip on the soldier and relying on the work of others.

The way things are going, in front of this crowed, Dr. King would end the same as he did 47 years ago.

Dr King is probably rolling over in his grave at the hypocrisy, lies, and total reversal of what he believed being spewed on the steps where he gave his inspired speech.

Fox and Beck are frauds. They have spewed hate, totally made-up stories, lies and disrespect against President Obama, open racism, calliing for violence against illegal immigrants and now creating fake hysteria over the Islamic COMMUNITY CENTER in New York that is 2 blocks from Ground Zero – you can't even see Ground Zero from there!

This whole rally is a sham and a disgraceful insult to Americans who truly believe ALL Americans are equal, have the right to Freedom on Religion, and know Republican propaganda when they hear it.

Beck is NO Christian and for one of the preachers at the rally today to call Beck "the Son of God" (I heard him say it) is complete heresy. This rally was completely about belittling and making a mockery of the social justice and equality Dr King fought for. Dr King was NOT for states rights since it was the Southern states who were taking away the rights of blacks to live as human beings. He wanted the Federal government to step in and create NATIONAL laws against discrimination.

Beck is a states rights person who wants NO Federal government programs or help for the People. He is a complete fraud and hypocrite. Fox is a scourge upon this nation spreading lies to the ignornat.

While I was watching this sickening display of fake patriotism, I saw hundreds of people getting up and walking AWAY from this disgusting rally. The steps of the Lincoln Memorial were emptying 30 minutes into this nutjob gathering. People know propaganda when they hear it and they LEFT. There were not many people in the wide audience views but I am sure Beck will lie and claim there were hundreds of thousands.

It's past time to reject these Republican haters and bigots. This country is not about hate, intolerance, and fear that Beck and Fox and the Republicans are trying to make it. We need to stand up to these bullies and hold them accountable for their traitorous actions, words, and attacks on the truly good hard-working People DOING everything they can to restore our economy and bring back jobs. That is certainly NOT the Republicans.

We should be thanking President Obama for all he has accomplished for the PEOPLE, He got more than 200 laws passed that ALL benefit You and I. He just brought home ALL the combat troops from Iraq as he promised and Republicans are trying to take credit for it. They are the ones who started this fraudulent war that tanked our deficit.

Republicans have NO plans, NO leadership, and a bunch of nutjob tea bagger candidates who want to end Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment benefits (all which WE paid into all the years we have worked) and get rid of the Dept of Educations. Aren't there already too many stupid, uneducated Americans?

Reject Republican hate and lies and vote for the Democrats who have been the ONLY ones working to restore America this year. They have DELIVERED real solutions, turned the economy around to positive numbers and created jobs.None of it has happened as fast as we wanted but you can't fix 8 years of destruction in 18 months.

Vote for the Democrats who DESERVE their seats in Congress. They have SERVED YOU and not the special interests. Democrats are the Party of the People. Republicans are the Party of Wall St, Insurance companies and Big oil. Why do you think they are fighting so hard to keep you from knowing where their campaign money is coming from? it is NOT from the People. It is ALL coming from big business from whom Republicans take their orders from – to vote against working America.

Use your vote wisely and vote for YOUR future – vote for the Democrats who are standing with YOU.

It's hard to believe that the niece of Martin Luther King would stand on the same stage with a person who described the first African American President as a racist. He would be so proud of President Obama and so ashamed of his niece. But, I'm sure MLK would forgive her.

Sorry, but I disagree. Beck is doing nothing but trying to ride the coattails of Dr. King by professing to be something he's not. To even mention Beck in the same sentence as Dr. King is an insult to Dr. King's memory and everything he stood for and if Dr. King's niece truly believed everything her Uncle stood for she would not say what she did. She too is insulting the memory of her Uncle.

Alveda King is to be commended for her action, I'm sure that her uncle is proud of her taking this position.

It's sad that that black activists the likes of Sharpton and Jealous have to play the race card? The Glenn Beck rally to Reclaim our Honor isn't about black or white, it's about American Honor!

American honor that has been besmerched and degraded by a President and Congress, both black and white!

Does Alveda sincerely,...REALLY... think that the very astute and perceptive MLK would be out there working at 'restoring honor' to a nation and its deluded fodder units that is so clearly fighting a multi-front losing war based upon an all too obvious pack of lies to begin with, that only brings more and more obscene profit to the usual suspects, increasing hatred for the US out there in 'the real world', and constantly diminished 'constitutional rights' FOR,...and increasing control OVER...the ever more cleverly and puposely divided and confused people that the government itself is supposedly there to serve and protect? I somehow don't think so....

I actually feel so sorry for Alveda King, she was used by Beck/Palin. Beck/Palin will drop her like a hot potato. No dinner invites for Alveda from this elitist fear mongering/hate inspiring group. They used Alveda just like they used religion to gain support for their sick agenda . Sinclair Lewis was certainly right in his 1935 perdiction of: Facism will come carrying a flag and a bible....looks like history is repeating itself. Before everyone may not be an exact quote, but it is certainly the exact meaning.

I'm quite sure commending you would not be "Uncle Martins" thought

Probably more like condemning you as he rolls over in his grave, that his blood would stand up with a racist like Glen Beck

I hope being a token for the bigoted right, has you feeling proud Alveda, you and Michael Steele, with a few more pawns like you two, we'll soon have the whole chess set.

    Please get educated

Martin Luther King was a truly great American and an exceptional human being. I think he would me amazed at how far we have come in such a short time. I was also truly by Alveda King's participation in this event and not getting caught up the actions of some who try to create a divide and take us backwards. Martin Luther King is a inspiration to all Americans no matter what the color of their skin. I can't imagine he would be happy with people using him to create a divide in this country that slows our continued progress.

This young lady is misinformed. I marched in Washington on August 23, 1963. Considering the purpose for our coming to Washington i.e. America's failure to deliver equality, as promised, the sponsored. Rally by Glen Beck falls far short of what Dr King would be proud of.Ms King needs to review history.

Well his children weren't there. I suspect they knew him best. Bernice, Martin III nor Dexter were there. His niece? Never heard of her. How much money was paid to her? The King children must have Already Denounced her. She's Angry and sick, and NO your father's brother Dr. MLK would NOT have commended a KKK in a three piece suit, nor the first woman Grand Wizard of the KKK. Did I see a sign "Don't Tread on Me" there. Oh, those hateful, bigoted TeaBaggers and Fox Channel must think they are living in the 19th Century . It's a Sin when a human being lives and Never you know they has to be Sick.
