NAACP president slams Glenn Beck at 'Reclaim the Dream' rally

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption =" The crowd at Al Sharpton’s ‘Reclaim the Dream’ rally in Washington."](CNN) - NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous, speaking at the "Reclaim the Dream" rally Saturday, castigated the message of the Glenn Beck rally across town in Washington.

"For a year and a half, we've been subjected to small hearts and small minds on our small screens," he said, referring to conservative ideas on media. Beck is a conservative talk show host, with a program on Fox News as well as several radio programs.

Urging people to continue to fight for issues like health care and the ideas of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., Jealous said, "It's time to make sure our country - when they turn on the TV - sees itself reflected back."

Beck and the corporations who are funding this rally should be ashamed that they decided to hold this rally on the very aniversary as Dr Martin Luther King gave his speech about peace, harmony, and the fight for an even handed economic prosparity for all, is nothing more than to get much needed attention to bolster the voters in November. I've watched Glenn Beck on his show, heard the nasty things he has said about these fellow americans he claims to care so much about. Let em hold their rally. Most Americans know what what this bunch of Fox News snake oil salesmen are all about.

I live on the West Coast and wish with all my heart I could be at the "Reclaim the Dream" rally.

Glenn Beck is nothing more than a dry alcoholic in love with the sound of his own voice, a liar and a fear-mongering, hate-filled idiot. For him to equate himself and his silly little rally with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is beyond the pale.

Dr. King and all he represents is the anti-thesis of Beck – and it's a disgrace to King's name that Beck is speaking today on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

Apparently MLK's daughter sees things differently, since she's speaking at Beck's rally.

Beck and his many guests including Dr. Alveda King (MLK's niece) spent 3 hours discussing faith, racial unity, and honor. Which part of that does Mr. Jealous disagree with?

I think it's more likely that the NAACP is concerned that people may find out like Malcolm X that "those" people aren't all devils. They are people and they may have more acceptance and tolerance than the ones who insist that belonging to a political party is decided by the color of ones skin or the reality of their economic conditions, and not the content of their character.

How un-Martin Luther King of the NAACP today. They continue to show they need division to exist, and I think it's time they just simply don't exist anymore.

And what does he mean by, "see itself reflected back"? I don't think he's talking about ideas on that one.

This proves the NAACP and Al Sharpton clan are the true Hate mongers. There was nothing in the Glenn Beck rally slamming anyone. NAACP and Al Sharpton lack "content of character" Glenn Beck rally is right we need to restore our values. not ear them apart like the Al Sharpton rally did.

Glenn Beck claims he didn't know that August 28 is the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

He also claims that when he found out, that he believes it's "Divine providence" that he picked that date.

Beck is one sick puppy to believe he is 1/1,000,000 the man Dr. King was or that his (Beck's) message is in any way on par with Dr. King's speech and his work.

Mr. Jealous, The Dream was to bring all men together. Mr. Beck did a great job on doing that today. This was not political but saying that we must turn to God to help our country. Why Mr. Jealous would you want to continue to divide this country and make it a racial issue. What you should be promoting is the Faith in God that Martin Luther King was not ashamed to tell everyone.

This "gentleman" hasn't a clue on what Glenn Beck says or believes. Evidently has never listened to him praise Dr.Martin Luther King on an almost daily basis, or understand Beck's attempt to honor him and all other great Americans that have been part of our history. Ignorance and bias is alive and well on the progressive liberal frame of mind these days. My old time Democratic friends are aghast at the turn the party has taken to the radical side.

Jealous has over and over again proven himself to be a racist. And CNN by posting the lies of Mr. Jealous and Mr. Sharpton only adds to the speed of its collapse.

Ever notice how easy it is to say "Let's get back to the foundations of America" without ever saying what that means?

Ever hear Glenn Beck say which of the things God wants us to do he is advocating?

    Code words all.

  22. Control and power....!

Naacp president slams Beck..? Why? is it because they fear that they NAACP will lose "contol and power" over the African-American comunities?? If Glenn Beck is for all Americans to reconnect spriutally and with each other regardless of your skin color...than this is a good thing...."America go for it and unite to overcome".............................!

Mr. Jealous, Why not start by changing the name of your organization to the National Association for the Advancement of People?

The NAACP is a bigoted organization. This once proud organization is now led by louded mouthed, uneducated, socialists. This organization is nothing more than a Democratic Party front organization.
