NAACP president slams Glenn Beck at 'Reclaim the Dream' rally

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption =" The crowd at Al Sharpton’s ‘Reclaim the Dream’ rally in Washington."](CNN) - NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous, speaking at the "Reclaim the Dream" rally Saturday, castigated the message of the Glenn Beck rally across town in Washington.

"For a year and a half, we've been subjected to small hearts and small minds on our small screens," he said, referring to conservative ideas on media. Beck is a conservative talk show host, with a program on Fox News as well as several radio programs.

Urging people to continue to fight for issues like health care and the ideas of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., Jealous said, "It's time to make sure our country - when they turn on the TV - sees itself reflected back."

The organization that once spoke out against racism and invoke the name of God to guide them in their efforts to achieve equality and fairness. Have now evolved into the biggest bigots and deny God. Beck is not about racism or politics but, about the American people protecting our freedom from those that would enslaved us. He is trying to rally the American people to stand up to big goverment that the progressive and liberal Democratics (O Bama, Pelosi, Reid and their bigotted fellowers are espousing.

God Bless Beck and Other Like Him. God Bless the Land of the Free "America"

Martin Luther King was not a racist.

The NAACP is a racist organization.
They are 2nd only to the KKK in bringing racism to a fine edge.

    American are Americans.
If you call yourself anything besides and American you really shouldnt be here. We really dont have time for African, Italian, Irish, Arabic or Mexican Americans...You either are or are not American.
Get over yourself and your racism.

We need people to work and put in their time in work and employment.
For too long this country has built an entitlement welfare state and it does not help the poor, it only keeps them locked in a low state of quality in life.

Move on and give every man the right to earn.

If this great country is ever going to banish racism, reputable new sources need to stop giving credibility to an organization that applies a one-sided race criteria to everything it supports, promotes or opposes. I'm talking about the NAACP.

Why such hate and hostility from Benjamin Jealous? The NAACP has become a much different organization. It was once a respected organization that stood up for the rights of those being oppressed. It seems not it is transforming into the oppressors. Possibly it's because people of color are as successful as any other race and they are confused about what their message should be moving forward. It is sad to continue to try to exploit race issues when we have come so far it really just impedes our continued progress. For all the people who want to talk about racism and bigotry stop and look at the progress made in such a short time. Once you realize how far we have come so quickly just stop the hate rhetoric and work toward the continued progress.

I think the leader of the NAACP is over reacting, I have seen bits of the Glenn Beck rally and has the support of many blacks. He is assuming that this day belongs to him and only the blacks. This is a free country

Mr Jealous, if it is not Black, then you condemn it. You are one of America's biggest racists.

Amazing how the right of free speech is only valid when it's YOUR point that you want communicated.

Beck has the legal right to absolutely do what he's doing, and it's not about race. Conservatives are deeply concerned that this country is on a long, slow, slippery road to failure of all, ethical and moral...and they're saying what they think. I agree with most of what Beck says...not all...but even if I didn't, he can talk wherever he wants to talk.

By the way, Sharpton is a complete joke and hypocrite. Quick to incite anger and to cast aspersions at those he believes guilty, and NEVER willing to admit he was wrong. The Tawana Brawley (sp?) incident, lacrosse team, etc....but he's always out there jabbering on and making accusations. He just has no credibility except among a very small group of people.

Folks, we are talking about Glenn Beck here. It's not like there are any reasonable people listening to this racist bloviator.

I think Glen Beck urging people to turn to God is a wonderful thing..our society has become too secular and trashy...Why anyone would want to slam Beck is puzzling to me...Why ?..Just because his views are conservative and moral ?...Most of these liberal people just want what they want at the expense of every hard working American - free this and free that...they also want only their ideas and opinions to be expressed and squash anyone who disagrees with them..well, the good people America are just fed up and will stand up to these bullies.

I looked at the pictures CNN provided for the two rallies today. Beck's was all white, while Sharpton's was all black. I never thought I'd ever see this again in my lifetime. I'm sick over it. Beck and his ilk have divided this country like no one else since the '60's. I hoped we were going forward, but it seems Faux News and partners have turned us around to going backwards. God help us all.

Sounds like Mr. Jealos is JEALOS!

I have to give Beck credit, he had tens of thousands at his rally, Sharpton and the blacks had a hundred or so...

People need to stop looking for others to "take care of them", and recognize that they themselves, must be their own keeper.

Face it all you OLD WHITE Fox NEws watching Inbreds. The America that you knew is going away and no amount of praying to your Racist White God and Gnashing of Tooth ( you are Red Staters) will negate that fact.

You all seem to forget that you had a guy in the WH with a hot line to Jesus for 8 years...and look at the mess he left.

You may disagree with the NAACP and Jealous, but they are correct.
Its the truth and anyone with half a brain knows how racist the undertones of Beck and the cast at Fox truly are.

Honestly, there are still a lot of people in America that just dont like Blacks. Its sad but true. And when some of those people control media outlets, well then thats when it becomes dangerous.

"Small hearts, small minds, on small screens"...that really sums it up! Great for Jealous. This morning when I saw the Beck crowd on TV I only spotted one lonely black woman. Probably a few more were there but we all know who dominated the crowd. BTW, I'm white.

Did anyone notice how Al Sharptons voice changed for the rally today?
He didn't sound anything like he does when he's on Fox News as a PAID contributor.
Hillary was famous for changing her voice when she spoke to all black groups too.

Its funny how Glenn Beck and some of the right wing are talking in code and think we do not understand it. They claim to be about peace and of God, but man I will tell you, this is plain racism at best

  25. False and Biased brought to you by the GOP

Beck, who has called our first African-American President "a racist who hates white people and white culture" and who has also promoted hatred against immigrants and muslims in addition to railing against the principle of social justice (which was so important to Dr. King) does not deserve to have his name in the same SENTENCE as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Beck is a hate-monger with little education who makes his money off of fanning the flames of hatred and division in America. At a time when our country would be very well served to have cooperation on addressing our myraid of problems, Beck just keeps trying to divide with his hateful rhetoric. Palin is the same way. MLK is turning over in his grave.
