Clear majority says Palin not qualified to be president

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption =" A new poll shows only 1 in 4 Americans believe Sarah Palin is qualified to be president."](CNN) - Two days after Sarah Palin fired up a large crowd at Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor rally in Washington, a newly released survey suggests a clear majority of Americans don't think the former vice presidential nominee has the right credentials to be president.

According to the new survey from Vanity Fair and CBS News' 60 Minutes, only 1 in 4 of all adults thinks Palin is qualified to be commander-in-chief while 60 percent say she is not.

By a narrow 47-40 percent margin however, Republicans do feel Palin has the right stuff to be president. But self identified conservatives – constituting the segment of the GOP largely thought to most favor the former Alaska governor – are essentially split 41-40 percent on her abilities to govern the country.

What may also be troubling for the former Alaska governor if she finds herself in a general election matchup, 3 in 5 independent voters don't think Palin is qualified while only 21 percent do. Among moderates, the numbers are even worse with 70 percent reporting they lack confidence in Palin.

Predictably, the numbers are most dire for the former vice presidential nominee among self-identified Democrats: 3 in 4 say Palin isn't up to the responsibilities of the Oval Office.

The survey, conducted by CBS News between August 3-5, surveyed 847 U.S. adults by telephone.

this is hilarious! CNN still clinging to the "Palin's not quaified...." as we have the most incompetent, inexperienced, non-transparent, "no-can't'-produce-my-birth-certificate, excessive-vacationing, gangsta chi-town thug sitting in the White House...or, more correctly, on the golf course while the White House is being redocorated at our expense...Obama's absolutely not qualified to be a fry cook at a diner, let alone president...yet, CNN keeps howling about Palin, and polls anti-Palin drones to reap some sort of slanted poll data...CNN is continually discrediting themselves and the only question left is whose numbers are dropping faster; theirs or Obamas.....haha...and they're throwing mud at Palin...

Wow, really? Are we surprised? Heck 2 1/2 years before Jimmy Carter was elected no one though a peanut farmer was a viable candidate for Pres. At this time I don't think she has even mentioned that she wants to run for Pres. I do like her, but she doesn't make my top of the list for republican presidential candidates. However, she is a great speaker to get under the skin on the narrow minded hateful libs and bring them out of the closet for the rest of Americans to see.

And I wonder about the 25%. Thankfully, most beauty contest winners outgrow the need to be the center of attention, sadly she obviously hasn`t.

    You know what's predictable?
You trying to tell America the Monday after Palin gives a moving speech at the Mall that she is "unelectable."

She's not and you cannot distort who she is to everyone. More and more people are doing what I did. Which is, our own research. Palin is far above the other possible candidates in character and record.

Spin, spin, spin for your White House, CNN.

Does it ever occur to anyone who reads this site, why is CNN so invested in what Sarah Palin does or does not do and why do they always publish polls, no matter how questionable, to try and diminsh her? She is not a public office holder. She is not a candidate for office. She is a private citizen who happens to be politically active. So the question arises, why does this network seem to be obsessed with her? If she is such an non-entity as they claim, why do they hang on her every word and deed? Could it be that they do have an iron in this fire about whether she becomes President or not? Why are they so concerned? What is their bottom line in all this? Think about that folks! When you can't figure something out, look for the vested interest in the matter and obviously CNN for whatever personal agenda is deeply invested in trying to marginalize her. Think about it and ask youself why? Just why? Hmmm! As the Good Book says, "The guilty fleeth when no man (or woman in this case) pursuith!"Hmmm!

I believe she stated she is not running for president. So why do we constantly waste time with these polls asking about something completely irrevealnt.

how can anyone who lacks the personal integrity to complete a term as governor and chooses to bail out to ride the money train to self enrichment even be considered for the office of president.

Polls this early in the game really don't mean a whole lot. While I may not agree with everything she says, some of her message resonates with many people. The American people are tired of the "politi-speak" coming from Washington and yearn for someone to just tell it like it is. Sarah Palin may or may not make a good president in 2012 (if she runs), but the real change must take place in Congress. Congress is the only body in our system that can make laws and change policy. As Obama found out with the healthcare bill, you have to have the 535 members on your side to get anything done. The point is the mid-term elections in two months are the most important measure of confidence in the current administration, or not, than a poll about a possible 2012 contender.

Yup. We already knew this. Let her run though, it will be a great laugh as her Republican contenders blow her out of the water in the debates, LOL

I would like to really know what is the "mentality" of those 1 out of 4 people is? This woman is nothing but a "gold digger" pretending to be someone she is not!

What is the media's infactuation with Sarah Palin? The media HATES her and I don't exactly know why. She is NOT running for president but even if she did should only 1 out of 4 think she is qualified to be president she is not too far behind our current president Barack Hussein Obama. Right now not much more than 35% believe Obama is qualified to be president!!

Should Sarah Palin DECIDE to run for president THEN that statistic is relevant. However, the media should be MORE concerned with the CURRENT president and deciding if HE IS QUALIFIED!! Obama is a clueless, incompetent, and corrupt president that is ruining this country and economy on a daily basis. Let's look closer at Obama to determine his qualifications!!

What's new here? We already know this. We've known this since Palin first opened her big fat pie hole more than two years ago... This is not new. The more she opens her big fat trap, the more she confirms that she is not qualified to be President of the local PTA, let alone President of the United States... Enough about this desperate, delusional wannabe.

Very very frightening that even 1 in 4 think her qualified. I used to vote the person not the party. Right now I would never vote for a Republican because of what they stand for: pandering to ignorance and fear.

What has she ever done to lead to the belief she can actually provide the necessary leadership....each time she joins into a cause, it gives greater concern over why anyone would want to have her in office.

It's too bad Republicans didn't figure out that Palin is not qualified BEFORE they voted for her.

You can thank Democratic voters for helping us dodge that bullet. You're welcome, by the way.

There are so many Palin Haters out there that my concern is that as a candidate she might enegrize the Left and sway inependents to the left.. I would prefer to see Obama out of office along with the Dems in Congress. So I would want a candidate that has broad appeal to win and get things back in order.

In a related poll, the same 1 in 4 people (that is, exactly the SAME people) said that the earth was flat and the sun circles the earth. 100% of these folks were Republicans.

They also believed that the Beck hate rally was attended by 1 million people and that it was not political.
