Clear majority says Palin not qualified to be president

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption =" A new poll shows only 1 in 4 Americans believe Sarah Palin is qualified to be president."](CNN) - Two days after Sarah Palin fired up a large crowd at Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor rally in Washington, a newly released survey suggests a clear majority of Americans don't think the former vice presidential nominee has the right credentials to be president.

According to the new survey from Vanity Fair and CBS News' 60 Minutes, only 1 in 4 of all adults thinks Palin is qualified to be commander-in-chief while 60 percent say she is not.

By a narrow 47-40 percent margin however, Republicans do feel Palin has the right stuff to be president. But self identified conservatives – constituting the segment of the GOP largely thought to most favor the former Alaska governor – are essentially split 41-40 percent on her abilities to govern the country.

What may also be troubling for the former Alaska governor if she finds herself in a general election matchup, 3 in 5 independent voters don't think Palin is qualified while only 21 percent do. Among moderates, the numbers are even worse with 70 percent reporting they lack confidence in Palin.

Predictably, the numbers are most dire for the former vice presidential nominee among self-identified Democrats: 3 in 4 say Palin isn't up to the responsibilities of the Oval Office.

The survey, conducted by CBS News between August 3-5, surveyed 847 U.S. adults by telephone.

It amazes me how much time our media continues to waste on this individual who is unknowingly embarrassing ALL Americans and the efforts of females in politics.

CNN . If she is so irrelevant then why spend time talking about her? There must be dozens of other up and coming politicians you can trash if they don't carry Obama's water like you do!

She is very qualified to run her mouth and have an opinion on everything. For starters, no one from Alaska knows how the other states think. Glad she proved it now so people will realize what we would have had under an approved McCain.

President? Of what? She'd be a joke if she were funny.

The answer remains the same NO MATTER WHAT! How many times are you going to ask?

Yeah, more and more people are coming around to the fact that Half-Term Palin is more about simplistic sensationalism than incisive coherence.

We already got the stats that just about 1 in 4 Americans are a bit on the numb side and likely always will be. No surprise here. Unfortunately, they tend to scream the loudest and garner media attention because it sells and silly people like us chime in on these blogs because it makes us feel like we are doing something. I enjoy hearing all the POV's. I mainly want solutions to our nations issues, not divisive rants. The GOP seems to be on empty in that arena...same old thing. Again, i'm in the middle, not on the left or right, so please spare the name-calling.

Well at least someone has finally figured out she would not make a good president! She was lucky and very lucky to be a Mayor of Alaska. And it is beyond me how the heck she pulled that one off too. I know I would not vote for her ever for anything. She must really be crazy to even think she could be president of the united states that is! Maybe president of the garbage dump but then I am not sure she would quilify for that position either.

Why does CNN restate the obvious it was clear the day she was selected to by McCain’s running mate for president.

I realize republicans need a President that can’t think and has to have cue cards or in her case her hands but, wasn’t eight years with a war criminal moron enough. I guess not because they keep wanting to put crack-pots in charge palin / bachman or bachman / palin both are complete idiots running the country in to the ground because palin thinks she’s a soccer mom is ludicrous.

Why don’t they both go on DWTS’s as a couple then they’d at least be entertaining.

Palin is one of very few ex-politicians to have proven directly that they are unable and unwilling to lead. She resigned from Alaskan governor to do a book tour and to be on Fox News. That is what everyone should call unable and unwilling to lead.

Boy, that must be a rude awakening for the t-party MINORITY. It's a funny thing – belligerence and volume isn't the same thing as majority – no matter how frothy your media coverage might be. When the t-party comes up with a single viable candidate (that doesn't blather stupidities and shoot him/herself in the foot everytime he/she gets close to a microphone, or one that has any REAL ideas), I .......well, never mind. That is such an unlikely scenario, it's really not worth expounding upon it any further.

Sarah Palin demonstrated that she could lead a state sucessfully which is more than some of the other presidents have done. Obama never accoplished anything even close to what Govenor Palin did. she balanced the budget-which is something he couldn't do. Not only didn't he do that but he increased the national debt greatly. Instead of letting the companies that could not adequately run there own businesses default he tried to bail them out by giving them money. If a company can't make it due to over paying salaries to the top employees, let them go under and let other smaller companies that can make a profit have a chance. Paying money isn't the answer to lack of business savy. This is only one of the issues where she could do better then other presidents. Another is not to pardon big drug lords so they can go back into business making it necessary for us to go through the expense of convicting them again. We need a Republican house to support her. Yeah for Sarah Palin

The woman has NO qualifications to lead this country, she can't even comprehend the words in the Constitution much less the deeper meanings and historical background. Her one bit of experience she quit halfway through. She has no education, no skills, no knowledge, and is hugely divisive. She is too busy using her name to grab every dollar she can to see the destruction she is promoting.

1 in 4! That is 50 to 60 million Americans. My go, I can't believe there are so many stupid Americans. No wonder this once great country is fading into insignificance. We deserve being insignificant if so many of us are down-right stupid. Not even god will help us. God help those who help themselves. He doesn't help stupid people.

Sarah Palin caused the downfall of John McCain, and the RNC is solely responsible for forcing Palin on McCain. While Joe Lieberman could have been the VP, the Republicans were afraid of losing their core right wing support from talk radio and Fox News, when McCain announced that Joe was his first choice for the VP slot. Palin still believes that she can see Russia from her house in Alaska, that should tell you her depth to be POTUS.

Palin is the only Republican who has a chance to beat Obama in 2012.

ANYONE who thinks Palin is qualified for the presidency ... clearly doesn't think clearly ... or think at all. The one thing she has accomplished though is to prove QUITTERS really can prosper!

Even the farthest right wing nuts are starting to see thru her. What a pity. I was hoping she would be the GOP choice in 2012. That would cause the biggest landslide in election history.... and the public embarrassment of the idiots who continue to promote this ding-bat quitter.

We are back to the 1930's with stupidity ruling the airwaves. Does anyone know what happened in the 1930's when Roosevelt was president? Does anyone know the word apathy? 1930's a time of high unemployment, Huey Long? How about Father Charles Coughlin? Why do you think Televangelism took place and why it started?

Encourage your friends to vote November to stop the fringe from becoming a majority. Hey CNN, why don't you look into the history books of the 1930's and report on the similarities. I wonder if you have the courage to show the world history indeed has repeated itself?

Really??? I mean really? Quite scary that 40 percent of conservatives think she has the ability to run this country.

Let us be realistic, she is far and away more qualified than obama. At least she has run a state and had the highest approval rate of any governor in the 50 states or 57 states if you listen to obama. obama had not run a lemonade stand prior to moving into the White House and it shows. Of course his whole agenda could be to destroy this countries economy and if that is the case then he is doing it.

Since Presidents don't govern but only follow instructions and policies that are enforced by those who truly govern from the shadows all that is needed from a president is the ability to speak, act and write to sign bills that they don't write. They have to do a little better than to just put an X where the signature goes. Given this, then Sarah Palin can be elected as president just as Barack Obama, George Bush and Bill Clinton were.
It is about time that people begin to wake of this reality and stop living in this world of political fantasies.
