Egypt might host second round of Mideast peace talks

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/09/01/art.obama.mideast.gi.jpg caption="President Obama delivering a statement on the Mideast peace process on Wednesday."]Washington (CNN) - If this week's Mideast peace talks brokered by the Obama administration go well, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is offering to host a second round of talks later this month in his country, according to two officials close to the talks.

The officials stressed that nothing is firm yet and there is a lot of progress that still needs to be accomplished, starting with a dinner President Obama is hosting Wednesday night with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the Old Family Dining Room of the White House.

Mubarak is attending the dinner along with King Abdullah of Jordan, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Quartet Representative Tony Blair. On Thursday, Clinton will host Abbas and Netanyahu at the State Department in Washington for the actual start of direct talks between the two parties for the first time in nearly two years.

Ambassador Soliman Awaad, a spokesman for Mubarak, told reporters late Wednesday that Egypt is ready to host a second round of discussions between Abbas and Netanyahu at some point between now and September 26, when Israel's 10-month moratorium on Jewish settlement construction in the West Bank will expire.

Abbas has declared that the peace talks will end if Israel does not extend the freeze on settlements, while Netanyahu is under great pressure within his country to end the moratorium altogether, just one of many difficult issues to be worked out.

Awaad warned that if the moratorium is not extended then "all bets are off" in terms of negotiations.

Don'tyou just love the way the inept, incompetent, corrupt, union toady president is concentraiing on the economy and jobs now that the union bosses and the left wing nut groups have gotten their paybacks for stealing the election for the libs. 5 or 6 vacations later he is back on something else that doesn't help us or mean a thing to those of us who want jobs. Impeach this loser.

These talks serve the same purpose for President Obama that his Oval Office speech about Iraq did: a distraction from the economy prior to the November elections.
Were I the President, and in as much trouble as he, I might set up distractions similar to his. After all, there's nothing that he can do about the economy just by throwing borrowed money at it and at voters.

Is it my imagination or is it a poor picture that Hillary is getting a little heavy around the hips and waist. She needs to trim down before she runs for the presidency in 2012..

The talks will make some initial progress...then Israel will do something to sabotage them.

    I've seen this movie before...
