Israeli-Palestinian conflict takes center stage in Washington

Washington (CNN) - With the U.S. war in Iraq drawing to a close, the Middle East moved front and center for administration officials Wednesday as President Barack Obama held a series of high-stakes meetings with Israeli and Arab leaders.

Obama was scheduled to meet behind closed doors at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Jordan's King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Obama and Netanyahu met first, briefly addressing reporters to condemn, in Obama's words, the "senseless slaughter" of two men and two women Tuesday near the West Bank city of Hebron.

Getting the Palestinian and Israeli leaders together in Washington DC for the first time in years.

Stock market soars on solid manufacturing numbers.

Combat in Iraq was ended yesterday (a few years after Pres. Bush celebratory fly-by with his mission accomplished banner).

Yup, that's how the right wing defines failure. They long for Jan. 20, 2009, when the stock market closed at 7949, we were bleeding manufacturing jobs like someone cut our femoral artery and the Israeli and Palestinian leaders were outwardly hostile towards each other. Oh, the good ole days, right??? Vote Republican and you can live it up like you're back in 2008 and 2009!

I condemn the attacks as well. Still doesn't give Israel the right to continue building settlements.

Boehner will respond this is a waste of time, like everything else the Democrats try to do. Rather than being the critic-in-chief, how about some fresh new ideas and drop the game of fear. I for one am sick of it and becoming very sick of politics in this country.

Blah blah blah and round and round we go like some Garth from Wayne's World arguing with a sterotypical Mel Brooks rabbi.

We're gonna take some of your land, scream "ours now!!! hahaha!" and oppress you via control of all your utilities, like water and electricity, and your commerce via blockades and generally try to keep you a third world country in hopes you'll just leave!!!

Oh yeah? Well, we're gonna shoot ineffective homemade rockets at you that rarely do anything but damage a building!!! Tah dah!!!

Sweet!!! We'll use that to justify and rationalize sending in thousands of troops with tanks to kill thousands of you, even innocent citizens!!! You're multiplying too fast, despite all our efforts to make you go away!!! Thank you thank you...we'll be here all week.

Well, we've got more rockets!!! Tah dah!!!

Rinse. Repeat. It's not going to end until the Palestinians are given a homeland free of interference and internationally recognized as having sovereign borders. That's is 100% the practical truth....not an ideological argument for one thing or the other...just bare bones fact that you can like or dislike all you want.

How long will this game go on? The Americans aren't a fair deal breaker in this game, and the world knows it. Hamas will never stop targeting Israeli civilians. Israel will never stop treating the Palestinians collectively like insects and blaming Hamas for their sins against the Palestinian population. Israelis will keep living in fear, and the average American (especially those holy Christians) will insist the Palestinian man, woman, and child is treated without dignity and humanity in the name of Hamas. Israel has America by the nuts, just like Iran controls Hezbollah. Neither side is less evil, regardless of what anyone claims. Christians want to believe in this country that its okay for Israel to drink the blood of innocent civilians because are they are the chosen people of those mythical 'God'. It's all a big joke, and what Washington does year after year with these stupid talks is nothing but a mockery of all those who have died.

I am puzzled by this article. Why did the President and his advisers meet with the Arab leaders but only the President met with the Israeli leader?

Is this a misstatement or is the President actually supporting the Muslim nations?

Amen to Lost in America. I too am getting sick and tired of all the unnecessary polictics from the right. I want my country back as it was where people to disagree. They did not have to throw the fear of the Devil into people. We have weak minded people in America who love to listen to the likes of John Boehner AKA Bone Head, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and Sean Hannity. They can't or won't look up the facts for themselves. They listen to and believe these CRAZIES. President Obama is doing the best that he can with the Republicans throwing road blocks in front of him all the time.

Peace is a two way street. War profiteers on both sides would have to give it a chance of success. If they don't, we Americans can't do a thing for them, except removing all aid to ISrael.

So too, iraqies are the ones to build their nation. Not the USA. Extremists and fanatics on either side of a conflict needs to be neutralized in order for peace to be possible.

With the war in Iraq drawing to an end, I have a remark for those who carry a ribbon on their cars in support of troops and war.

Ange Tekam • It's not enough to paste a ribbon on your humvie, or to wear a flag from head to toe. Take a cut in profit because you can't cut any more labor cost. Hire one more person to do the jobs that you are pushing fewer and fewer people to do, in the name of productivity. Taking less profit or dividend during this recession is a sacrifice we can all make for the nation we call our own. It would stimulate consumption, and get us out of recession. Never doubt the power of one extra paycheck on the moral of a nation.
If you really love america as you say, support its economy., not just its troops and its wars.

Lisa – What Muslim nation? Palestinians have no nation. You sound like another bigot who wants to go around saying Jews are "God's chosen people" while all the Muslims are working for the devil. Because the President's 'advisors' didn't meet with Netanyoohoo, obviously the President is a terrorist because it's obvious he's supporting Muslims? Come on, do you have any shame? I didn't know so many Nazi's still existed.

    Norma – wake up.

The economy will fall further. There are more housing issues to come – the programs to keep people in their homes don't work on people that bought more house than they could ever afford.

Exactly what new manufacturing jobs have been created? What new jobs have been created at all? Unemployment is at it's highest but it is falling lower because people are losing their unemployment compensation and they don't get listed as unemployed. The welfare roles are beginning to swell and the Dems are spending like drunken sailors.

They will tax the middle class which will stop their meager spending which will lead to further job losses and so it spirals down.

There will never be peace in the Middle East. This has been going on for thousands of years and it will continue. Many have tried and all have failed.

Forgive me if I have a deja-vu moment? Did Carter not win the Nobel Peace Prize for settling this? Did Yassir Arafat not win a Nobel Peace Prize for settling this. I am confused, either the Nobel Peace Prize is rally phony, or this has already been settled. I personally think, especially after seeing a corrupt, inept, incompetent winner this year, that the Nobel Peace Prize is phony and is won by phony people.

Speaking of rewriting history (there's been a lot of mentioning of it by both sides on CNN's blather-sections so far this week...seems the TX Board of Edumacation doesn't need rewritten textbooks to get the word out that, apparently, Jefferson was not really all tha big of a deal but he certainly wanted Jesus in the Constitution). The BIBLE is the ULTIMATE example of purposeful historical rewrite. Anyone reading it like a history text book...other than an extremely educated expert who can pick through it an compare it to archaeological data and other historical records to figure out why it says what it says...needs help in the head.

How about working on Jobs, economy, and stop running up the deficit. The Obama recession is bringing the country down. Is it possible for the Potus to spend a little time on things to help the American people. I can't wait till November. He is more like Jimmy Carter than Jimmy Carter.

i remember president carter spent most of his presidency on mid-east peace btw them 2 parties who have been waring since the beginning of the book of genesis as the bible speaks it. and he basically ignored the gov't, everything and everyone else. and he was out of there no 2nd term. heads up prez obama you have priorities right here on your own back yard. mitt romney is taking courses on obama 101 and he is going to bring the heat. in 2012 him, rove , and the extreme right . and believe this these people don't want to work with you they want your job and want to serve you an eviction notice starting nov.3 wake up and smell the coffee. that passive attitude and its my responsibility you have been saying has got to stop. they have got you undermined.

  21. The reality is...

Israel has a right to exist and until Hamas and other terror groups stop perpetrating attacks and trying to destroy them there will be no peace. For those who say they don't have a right to exist then you must agree neither does the U.S. All land must be returned to prior occupants.

Am a believer what the history says and bible, that if we try to divide, take Israel land away from the Jewish people, God does punish, usually by touching a section of economics of the power pushing for division of Jewish lands. Eg. Katrina and recent oil spill, happened swiftly after then Bush and recently Obama tried to stop settlements of Israel.

Am sure u will see me as delutional. Look at history and how God dealt with those who contend with the Jewish pple.
