Beck scoffs at 'lie' allegations

Beck is laughing at critics who are making a big deal over his 'lie.' at last weekend's rally.

Beck is laughing at critics who are making a big deal over his 'lie.' at last weekend's rally.

(CNN) -Glenn Beck is scoffing at recent attacks from MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and others after the Fox News host inaccurately told the crowd at his recent Washington, DC rally that he "held" George Washington's handwritten inaugural address.

"I thought it would be a little easier in the speech," Beck told his radio listeners Thursday as he dismissed the most recent liberal attack directed at him.

The uproar from the left came in response to a comment Beck made during his Restoring Honor rally on the National Mall last weekend in which he said, "I went to the National Archives and held the First Inaugural Address written in his own hand by George Washington."

Turns out the Archives' policy doesn't allow members of the public to touch rare documents like the First Inaugural Address. Instead, Beck was permitted to view the document through plastic – prompting Olbermann to declare "his story that he actually got to hold it…is wrong."

"His fib stands in stark contrast to the point of the rally, which was all about restoring the principles of courage and honor that the nation was founded upon," the publication Mother Jones chimed in.

But Beck himself didn't seem frazzled by the allegations.

"They are like, 'He's such a liar. Glenn Beck is such a lair!' said Beck laughing off the criticism.

"I thought I'd be a little easier than to say, 'Yesterday, I went to the National Archives, and they opened up the vault, and they put on their gloves, and then they put it on a tray, and they wheeled it over, and it's all in this hard plastic, and the because you're sitting down at a table and you can't – because of [Former National Security Advisor] Sandy Berger - you can't actually touch any of the documents because they are very rare'…..I thought it was a little clumsy to explain it that way."

"Might have been a little too much useless information!" Beck exclaimed. "Once again, they caught me."

Hey Jane, you may be right. But I ask you, why do the conservatives always try to find fault with EVERYTHING President Obama does? For instance, people are criticizing the Oval Office makeoever (that didn't cost taxpayers one dime), when it is done with ALL Presidents. Something as small as that draws fire from the right.

Please be specific about a "lie" that Obama has been caught in. Trust me, I'll research it to verify. So please tell me that lie. And BTW – the CNN headline, uses a question mark. They are not saying he was or he wasn't.

BTW – I'm a veteran, I don't like what Beck did, claiming this was for the military. The group only got what was leftover from the rally. Mr. Beck has to pay for the rally expenses 1st, then the rest was supposed to go to that group. I'm not saying he's bad, or anything like that. I just don't agree or believe a word he says.

If Glenn Beck is such a great American, why hasn't he worn the uniform of this country? Why? Has he served in Vista? Has he served in the Peace Corps? No, he only serves himself.

He's a liar and a sociopath, and he has you right-wing nuts right where he wants you.

Big news here! If you look up the definition of "liar" in the dictionary you will find pictures of Glenda and the Wicked Witch from Wasilla front and center. Followed by all of Foxnews and right wing hate radio. Between Glenda's racists rally in D.C. and the Vanity Fair piece on Palin, the truth about these nutjobs is finally on view for all to see. Most importantly the other 98% of the US who do not watch or listen or believe their G.D. lies!

He most likely missremembered like Hillary did when she said she was running from the plane dodging gunfire in Bosnia.

Politicians lie....period. Anybody who didn't already know that was truly an idiot to begin with. At the same time though, you right wingers need to shut your traps as well. It's not like the people in your party are any better.

Whats good for Obama, Clinton etc is good for Glenn Beck. We want honesty people it doesn't better on the race or background right just honesty. Glenn Beck is not honest he is just another liar. I understand that people want this to remain the White mans world but time for a change. LIARS ARE LIARS WHITE OR BLACK ETC.

Remember – Mr. Beck himself has said that he is a commentator as compared to a newsperson, and thus (somehow) is not held to standards of truthfulness and disclosure normally attributed to the news profession. Thus, why should his recent statement be viewed as an issue? The man himslef has essentially said that the truth is not an issue.

His excuse that he exaggerated his narrative because "it was a little clumsy" to tell the truth is pathetic. Why not just say "I saw it with my own eyes" or something. So convenient, so self-rationalizing an excuse. Why can't we all agree that for both sides that it taints any argument whether you are talking about snipers or beheaded people in the desert or inaugural addresses if you don't tell the truth. Oh, and list the ten lies Obama has told today and then maybe someone will believe you.

Ridiculous. This is what CNN has to write about? And they wonder why the media got an "F" in their own poll in 2008. They drive away their good hosts (like Lou Dobbs) and bring on more and more biased ones.

    Because of Sandy Berger?
    Uh, no.
Because they are irreplaceable documents that should only – if ever – be handled by trained archivists?
Uh, yeah, that just might be the answer.
Get out of one lie by telling another – way to 'restore America's honor', Glenn.

I agree with Beck, this is too nitpicking and there's other things he's wrong about that are more obvious and important. The problem I have with what Beck said is what George Washington thought of political parties (hint: he didn't like them). That to me is irony.

Glenn Beck is the biggest lying mouth of all time and a hippocrite! When he was on CNN he wasn't such a die-hard conservative! Follow the money people! Oh and he spews dangerous hate speech in order to boost his own wealth – the most dangerous kind of liar!

I'm no fan of Glen Beck, but do you really call this news? On any given day at any given moment, you can catch someone in a "lie" – be they Republican or Democrat. Politics is a dirty, filthy game – both parties are equally guilty, but this shouldn't even register on the radar. Come on, CNN – you can do better than this.

No surprise to me. Beck also lied about the size of the crowd at the rally...saying it was a half million people when it was only a measly 87,000. This kind of behavior comes with the territory with attention/media whores like he and Palin are.

I actually would have been more surprised if he got caught in "the truth"!!!! I have listened to this windbag a few times and he is nothing but a self promoting rhetorical idiot that just spews incessant diatribes and has no real solutions to anything.

Let's stop pretending that the lies all come from one end of the political spectrum. Politicians and commentators of all stripes misspeak, shade the truth, make a false statement when they think they're speaking accurately, and occasionally flat-out lie. They're human. We're human. Get used to it. Left-wing politics is not a disease. Right-wing politics is not a disease. Mindless loathing of people who don't think like you do IS a disease. Let's start looking for a cure.

Check out Jon Stewart's pre-rally show (the one where Bloomberg was the guest). The entire first section is basically Beck contradicting himself...way more entertaining and to the point that msnbc, imo.
