Beck scoffs at 'lie' allegations

Beck is laughing at critics who are making a big deal over his 'lie.' at last weekend's rally.

Beck is laughing at critics who are making a big deal over his 'lie.' at last weekend's rally.

(CNN) -Glenn Beck is scoffing at recent attacks from MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and others after the Fox News host inaccurately told the crowd at his recent Washington, DC rally that he "held" George Washington's handwritten inaugural address.

"I thought it would be a little easier in the speech," Beck told his radio listeners Thursday as he dismissed the most recent liberal attack directed at him.

The uproar from the left came in response to a comment Beck made during his Restoring Honor rally on the National Mall last weekend in which he said, "I went to the National Archives and held the First Inaugural Address written in his own hand by George Washington."

Turns out the Archives' policy doesn't allow members of the public to touch rare documents like the First Inaugural Address. Instead, Beck was permitted to view the document through plastic – prompting Olbermann to declare "his story that he actually got to hold it…is wrong."

"His fib stands in stark contrast to the point of the rally, which was all about restoring the principles of courage and honor that the nation was founded upon," the publication Mother Jones chimed in.

But Beck himself didn't seem frazzled by the allegations.

"They are like, 'He's such a liar. Glenn Beck is such a lair!' said Beck laughing off the criticism.

"I thought I'd be a little easier than to say, 'Yesterday, I went to the National Archives, and they opened up the vault, and they put on their gloves, and then they put it on a tray, and they wheeled it over, and it's all in this hard plastic, and the because you're sitting down at a table and you can't – because of [Former National Security Advisor] Sandy Berger - you can't actually touch any of the documents because they are very rare'…..I thought it was a little clumsy to explain it that way."

"Might have been a little too much useless information!" Beck exclaimed. "Once again, they caught me."

Wow is this the same Keith Olbermann that expanded voraciously his Ivy league credentials not too far back, I bet that liberal douche' bag has never even read either our Constitution, Bill of Rights or Washingtons address himself. He like most of Obama's sheep haven't a clue as to what is going on..

If you want much more detailed accounts of Glenn Beck's lies and delusions, then go to politifact and mediamatters. I think it is funny that some Beck watchers are under the impression this is the first time Beck has been caught lying.

When you tell a "fib" or misrepresentation to a large group of people, who for whatever reason that totally escapes me, take everything you say as "Gospel" (since you seem to be leaning that way these days) Mr Beck; you fan the flames of the misrepresentation. My guess is there's some money to be made in this for Mr Beck somewhere. Snake oil salesman come to mind when I hear your name.

Now that's a new spin on getting away with lying.... All he had to say was he read it yesterday , I think the crowd could have understood that. As for the previous writer who of course signs Anonymous> Could he come up with facts about Obama lying 10 times a day.. Talk about liars....

Beck can't talk without telling a lie! The truth never comes out of his mouth! Is this the best the Republicans can put out there?

Rightwingevangelicalconservatism is a disease – at least there is one other sane person here. Beck is a joke.

Reality does not matter to Beck. The truth does not matter to Beck. He is the Howard Beale of our time.

"Saw" – a single word that would have worked – as in "I saw the document".

That's ok – Beck also lied (or at the least, got the history VERY wrong) about the Washington Monument's construction that day, too. To Glenn, everything he says is contradicted by 'inconvenient history' and , you know, those pesky things called 'facts'..

Easier? No... saying you SAW the document would have been just as easy... but it wouldn't have carried the same sort of physical cache as saying you HELD it.

Glenn Beck is a scarey, lieing person along with the rest of his right wing anti-Obama pigs who live in such a dense cloud of money induced self-delusion that he thinks all of us are stupid. And of course those without money that want to be Glenn, and are so afraid of change that they will listen to any lie and believe it.

Try an education or maybe a book to see where these people are really coming from.

OKI, here are the conseervative ground rules. When a Glen Beck or someone of his ilk is caught in a specific falsehood, it is liberal media bias. But when conservatives baldly label someone a liar, that's good enough to take as gospel. And by the way, the Kevster is a pinhead. Who changes you when the soil yourself?

Just ONE lie? Why don't you guys go to youtube and look up the video where they show–with him in it–how they make him "cry" on cue?

Give me a break Keith Oberman is the most bitter, miserable negative man I have every seen. He is like on the verge of completely flipping out everytime he speaks. If that is all he can attack Glenn Beck with it just goes to show you how lame Oberman is. Keep grasping Keith!

Okay, seems like not a big deal... except that Beck's explanation shows that he is in fact a liar and willing to compromise, mislead, distort, etc. when it suits his ends. He throws in Sandy Berger, for example, to try and shift attention when in fact the reason NO ONE from the public, Berger included, handles the rare docs is because handling degrades them. More important, he could very easily have said something to the effect that he went to the Archives and read the original doc... but there is no drama in that, so he LIED, willfully.... on a day when everyone was supposed to be "restoring honor"... hypocrite!

This is nothing compared to the whopping lies Beck tells every day. People, he's an ENTERTAINER. He says provocative things to generate ratings and money. He probably doesn't believe half of the crap he says. I don't think Rush or Coulter or O'Reilly do either. They've tapped into an audience that hangs on their every word and buy all their stupid books and pay to hear them speak, and they tell those people what they want to hear. I find it irresponsible, but you have to acknowledge they sensed a niche and filled it. That's why Palin will only tease, but never run for office. It would be a massive paycut for a lot more work.

And this is news to everybody? They still lie after knowing the truth which really turns alot of people off. There are many ignorant people that believe every word and that is how they get followers. More stupid followers equals more money in their pockets. You didn't really think they cared about the Country did you?

Yea, and he had no idea that he had planned a speech at the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of the I Had a Dream Speech given at that same exact location. That either makes him a complete idiot (c'mon, one of his staffers didn't even google the date before he planned this big rally) or a horrendous liar. I vote for the latter.

Next, we will ask the Birthers, the 40% of Republicans that now claim to be birthers, where they got their proof about Obama being born in Kenya.

Oh yes, now I remember, there was a right wing extremist newspaper reporter that asked Grandma whether she was present when Obama was born in Kenya. She does not speak one word of English and the reporter does not speak her language. When the translator for the reporter (hired by the reporter) said -"she did not say that", the reporter wrote the lie in his newspaper anyway and the sponges in the Republican Party sucked it up and kept repeating it. Now fools like you Molly, Jane, and Ananymous just keep repeating the lies.

Lol – because of Sandy Berger?! Is that the best YOU'VE got Beck?

Do you honestly think that such rare antiquities as original founding documents, antiquities of our nation's history and heritage, should be available to touch by just anyone's dirty, oily hands? Really?

Lol, this is the worse thing they can say about Beck...Look, Beck isn't perfect, but he highlight a real concern that our citizens have, namely that the government is getting too large, taxing too much and trying to control our lives.

Beck, the Tea party, Palin etc all are tapping into a real raw nerve in the country. We want the opportunity to have jobs and careers not handouts. We want to pay some taxes but only a small amount. We want to help the poor but more through the generousity of private organizations rather than government. We want everyone to work. We want lots of immigration by people from around the world who share our ideals of freedom of speech, freedom of press, equality for all, free markets and a strong work ethic but we want it to be legal. We want our politicians to stop lying to us, stop taking bribes, stop running up deficits. You can attack Glen and be part of the problem or you can listen to him and see if any part of his politics might actually be helpful to this nation. Be open minded people please!!!

Well he could have just said the truth, "he viewed the address." His excuse is specious. Kevster and Molly, you sound like you need a sedative. Calm down. Sterilization? Really you sound like a Nazi. Bet you look like one too. I picture you both crying just like the huckster. Seems like the truth has hit a nerve. I bet you two think there were "millions" in attendance Saturday. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid kids.

Beck reeks – absolutely stinks of smarmy BS.

He can claim that he embellished the story, but the cretin just keeps piling it on, and the neoclowns keep eating it up.

Interesting how these same knuckleheads spin this into a blame Obama game. No dispute about Obama being a BSer, too. I agree.

Just stick to Beck, though, and see him for what he is: A charlatan and perfect snake-oil salesman.

He also told falsehoods about the Washington Monument. It was, in fact, the Know-Nothings who halted construction on the Monument. And it was finished well after the Civil War–facts that Beck ignored in his call for us all to return to whatever strange God he believes in. Every word he says is a lie–including "the" "a" and "and."
