Midterm politics by numbers
Washington (CNN) - There are 57 days before Election Day and Democrats and Republicans are preparing closing arguments to try and convince voters as to why their respective political party should control Congress.
Republicans will need a net gain of 39 seats to take back control of the House and a pick up of 10 seats for the Senate majority. One high level Democratic campaign strategist predicted that "up to 30 seats" are "now probably" lost in the House, while Republicans could pick up "8 seats" in the Senate."
Democratic leaders are telling colleagues to localize their races as well as argue that they are seeking solutions to fix the economy, while accusing Republicans of asking people to cast their votes in anger."
"The economy is not going to get demonstrably better," before Election Day, said the Democratic strategist, who would only speak freely about the challenges facing the Democrats on the condition of anonymity. "But Democrats are trying to fix it, and Republicans haven't offered a plan."
A senior Republican strategist acknowledged that in fact the election is primarily about the Democratic Party and broke it down to this formula: "Looking at this election, 80 percent of it is about them, and 20 percent is about us," said the strategist, who would also only speak under the cloak of anonymity.
The GOP strategist noted that Republican candidates are being told to "nationalize the election and try to make it a referendum on President Obama." The Republican strategist also sought to minimize Democratic charges that the party hasn't offered any solutions and noted that the much hyped Republican policy agenda – often compared to the 1994 "Contract with America" – will be unveiled later this month.
While the GOP is clearly in the hunt, elections are all about timing, and savvy Republicans realize that peaking too soon could take away that valuable momentum needed as they head into Election Day.

ALlow citizens to BORROW directly from the Treasury at .25-.5% like the banks do. They would have padi off ALL their consumer debt and be spending their liquid income to make this economy grow at 10-15% per year by now. The bansk would have still gotten the cash in the end as they held all the consumer debt. So, it would have still been a "bank bailout" but in the process the CITIZENS got bailed out of their enormous consumer debt that grew astronomically after DOOFUS w. said to "go shopping" after his and Chezey's 911 plot to overthrow the Constitution..

They also need to remind Americans that it is the GOP experiment in trickle down economics that led us down the recession. AND that the GOPs phony conservatism and claims that they would be conservative is what allowed them to get into office in the first place only to destroy the country. We can not afford another recession so soon and that will surely happen with the same GOP games.

Know what Republicans have promised so far? Ending Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment benefits, and Public Schools. They want to remove the regulations on the Wall St banks so they can go right back to their corrupt and risky business that brought down our economy under Bush. Republicans want to repeal all consumer protections the Democrats gave you. All they want to do is extend the Bush tax credits to billionaires which will add 4 Trillion to our deficit. They will take away the tax cuts for the middle class.
So – what of this HELPS YOU or HELPS AMERICA keep recovering?? Be VERY careful with your vote. You should know what will happen to YOU if you give Republicans power. They hate the middle/working class and plan to return to the same old Bush policies that utterly destroyed our nation...no regulations on any big industry, no job creation here in America since they support sending jobs overseas, no healthcare protections, no help for veterans coming home from war, and already they are talking about starting a war with Iran. Is this the American you want to go back to????
Better vote for the Democrats unless you want America to be back in more wars and our economy going right back to where it was when Bush left office. The rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer and there will be NO middle class.
It would not matter what Obama do or don't do, the republician would still not admit to it. All the republicans say time for healthcare because of the economics. We cry and whine we people who did not have insurance and our premiums went to the roof and we don't want people on medicaid, now we have something in placed that will all.
Why shouldn't people be made to getinsurance and pay for it, after all that is what we have been crying for years. Republicians do not tell the people that all those who are not insured cost more money than those who are insured. When people do not have insurance, whether they can afford to get on there on or not, get medical help just the same as the ones with insurance.
Do any of you everything why your insurance is so expensive, or you just listen to the republicans tell you dumb lies? Half of the bankruptcy in this country is due to people who have no insurance but high medical bills that are not paid or they refused to pay.
How do you feel working on a job and you are paying for insurance for your family, but the person working right beside you do not take the insurance and feel happy to do without it because they know that they can received treatment regardless.
I have not heard not on republicians say what solution they have for people who have been denied insurance because of preexisting condition or have lost their insurance because of illness.
Do we prefer people not to have insurance and then either the state or our high premiums can take care of them? Or do we want to just round all the people that have illness and put them in state all by themselves? Do you have family members who do not have insurance and is getting help from the government, the same government that you want to butt out your lives.
The government is good for people when something happen in their city or town to help them out, but for things that people need they are no good. We are a very selfish country who prefer that we do not take care of our sick, elderly or the poor.
I do not hear one member of congress agreeding to work for less pay or no pay and health benefits, but yet they say they care about the american people.
Insurance premiums were going up long before Obama came on the scenic and services went down. No the health care reform is not perfect, but it is a start that is way over due. It can be worked on and proved better if the people we elected to do their job and really think about the american people.
The thought is if the republicans get more seat than the democrates that they can undo everything this president has done, but what most of you really don't know is that is not the republicans want to do.
What they really want is to get in the congress and stay there to become rich and receive gifts from big business and make thing harder for the lower american people.
Why do you think medications is so expensive, it is not because of the invention, because we really are taking the same medications over and over but with a change in one or two of the ingredigents. Do some research and you will find out things that are not being told to you. Did you ever stop top to think why other countries medication is cheaper than ours, and the majority of all those medications are made by our companies. People wake up and smell the roses.
Some think that cutting out social security, will help, well, how do you plan on helping the elderly, the disable or are they just to lie down and die. Are we suppose to kill off the children from birth if we know that they may be disable the rest of their life. And what about people who get injuried through no fault of their own, are we to just let them die, because it will take money to take of them.
Even dumb people think that the president can make employers hire people here in the united states instead of sending all their jobs over seas. The reason companies do this is because we as american has to be paid more money and more money.
I remember years ago when companies employees would go on strike for better pay, health care, working condition, the employers warned then, they jobs would go over seas or they would bring people over here to do the work. Guess what, jobs are overseas, illegals are here doing the work that american people think they are to good to do.
We depend on other countries for everything, we do not even grown our food like in the past.
The ecocomic is picking up slowing but the republicans have big businss to not hire people because they want to make Obama look bad. The republicans and tea parties want to go b ack to the old days. Is that the days when people of color had to work for them and get paid very little, poor medical condition, the sick and the elderly eating dog food because they could not afford to buy food.
We think it is bad now, let as many of republicans get back in congress and you will see things a lot worse. People are jus dumb enough to elect them back in office to let them finish what they started. But what the american people do not realize they will be giving the president more power, he will then have the power to do what all president before him and that is the veto power.
The negative treatment that this president is given is because he is a person of color and that have brought out all the true feelings of the white race against all people of color. They live in fear that they no longer are better than anyone else and it hurts. No one race is better than another, and whether we like it or not, we need each other.. God's plan is working the way he wants it to and he have put his plan into action. Nothing that is happening today is new but what is supposed to happen. As usually the white race reacts without thinking and then cry when it don't go the way they want to go. Well, I am afraid that there are going to be alot of tears shed because they have lost control.
Judging from some of these comments, a lot of Americans have a short memory. It doesn't take a rocket scientest to figure out how, why, and who put this country in such a disastrous financial situation. The greed and lust for power of the previous administration has almost succeeded in reducing the good old U.S.A. to a 3rd world country.
It's amazing to me that anyone with a little intelligence would actually cast a vote for anyone running on a Republican or Tea Party platform. Any vote cast for either of these two parties will be a nail in the coffin for America.
The republicans appeal is mostly to those who believe in fairy tales. Unfortunately, we have more than our share of ignorant people in this country. Many of them are dangerous right wing and religious fanatics from the middle ages with twisted and outdated views on just about everything.
If poll numbers decided elections then we would have no need to vote. Elections are like sports, you have a favorite and an underdog but until the game is played you never know who is going to win until the final whistle.
I'M VOTING DEMOCRAT this fall. If you look at what's at stake the Republican Tea Party is to risky. The Republicans candidates are untested, extreme and that is a dangerous mix in a tough economy. Play it safe and vote Democrats.
