Angle draws Ralston's ire after debate cancelation

Sharron Angle has drawn the ire of Nevada journalist Jon Ralston.

Sharron Angle has drawn the ire of Nevada journalist Jon Ralston.

Washington (CNN) – Nevada's top political journalist lit into Republican Senate hopeful Sharron Angle on Thursday, saying that the Tea Party favorite had backed out of a planned debate.

Jon Ralston, host of "Face to Face," used Thursday's broadcast as a platform to air a grievance with Angle after a campaign spokesman canceled a debate that her deputy campaign manager had agreed to only hours before.

"Earlier today Sharron Angle's campaign agreed to accept our invitation to debate Harry Reid on 'Face to Face' in an hour-long live broadcast from Reno on October 21st. Within hours of Reid accepting, Angle's campaign called to say, well, its backing out now," Ralston said.

Ralston then played a clip of Angle on a previous episode of "Face to Face."

"What I would like to see is Harry Reid come into this studio with you and I and have a true debate," Angle says to Ralston in the taped clip.

Ralston continued to skewer the Angle campaign, saying he's "not making this up, folks."

"I thought I had seen it all in this campaign. I guess not. I had agreement from Angle's deputy campaign manager for this debate, but soon after we announced Reid had agreed to the date and place, her campaign spokesman called to say there was no agreement. I'm not making this up, folks. A campaign spokesman overrules a deputy campaign manager? I really don't understand the hierarchy in that campaign."

But Ralston wasn't done, later elaborating in a message posted on Twitter.

"Remember "Scanners" where people's heads exploded. That's how I feel right now. This is a Senate race, not a competition for h.s. president," Ralston wrote.

The two candidates are set to meet October 14 in a debate hosted by PBS host Mitch Fox.

Not surprised. Didn't Sarah Palin endorse this woman? Sarah must have also schooled her on how to avoid a real showdown where she surely would have gone down in flames.

Is angle crazy trying to debate with one of the most powerful person that state ever produce. Angle with her right wing ideas that only the benefits rich in the long run beause a junior senator with no clout will be treated like crap, thats reality. Reid has been busy bringing the countrtry back from the abiss and did a masterful job. Now let him work that same mastery bringing navada back to life. Navada would be a fool to take such a powerful man out of washington at this crititical time, they might never have that kind of power in washington again for centuries.

This woman makes Palin look like a brain trust- she shouldn't debate although I wish Nevada residents could see her in action.
The scariest thing in this country right now is an uninformed electorate dictated by extremeists.

I wouldn't go on face to face either... it will be way left intended... you can't get a fair shake... don't do it. What's Reid want to debate anyway? Just look at his record to know what he is... nuf said

Nice credibility, Tea Party candidates. Thanx for putting us Dems at ease.

Well, what did Ralston expect? Angle had already shown she's unstable. Now, she's also unreliable.

    And this is a surprise????

Her ideas are SO bizarre that they would never stand up to any kind of debate or questioning.

    Wake up, Nevada!!!!

When one looks at the absolute stupidity of Sharron Angle, the brain dead Rand Paul, the theatrics of Phil Davidson, Palin the twit(ter) and her new boy toy Beck, Bubba O’Reilly and all of faux news, et al – one really needs to wonder about what happened to civility and intelligence in the world of American politics. What a sad state of affairs was handed to us by Bush’s brain, the aptly named, turd blossom. How absolutely rare it is to hear of an actual issue being discussed. Rather, we get a constant barrage of hate, bile, and absurdity. Who ever heard of a candidate RUNNING AWAY FROM a camera??

Tea Partiers are all good when they talk amoungst themselves and to themselves but, they are cowards when they have to actually "do" something. It's easy to talk and criticize when your on the sideline and your actions don't have real results but, when you get in the game and reality smacks you in the mouth, it's another story. Palin, Paul, Angle, Buck, Miller,..... COWARDS. These people are sorry excuses for Patriots. Also, this is coming from a conservative.

Can you actually picture this person as a United States Senator...? Talk about the "dumbing down" of America...!

Why won't they let this woman talk in public? Is she another Palin half-wit?

Sounds like there is more than one nut loose behind the wheel of the Angle Campaign bus. No, wait, make that a train. We know how it is to feel compelled to watch a train wreck. They'll serve tea at this one.

It's Amateur Hour in Nevada! How could anyone imagine Angle as a US Senator?

Why is Angle ducking campaign commitments? It appears Angle does not want to answer for her extreme positions.

It is beyond absurd how the GOP has allowed crazy nonsense to hijack my former party.

I do not live in Nevada and have decided that no matter what opportunities (if any) exist there, I will be the last person on earth that will move there. For people to consider voting out a majority leader for this clown, Sharon Angle is insane. This is like biting off your nose to spite your face. This woman obviously does not know her azz from a hole in the ground and the voters forget that she has to do some speaking ie defend her positions when and if she gets to the senate. I am an independent and did not think I will live to see the day when partisan politics will lead us down this path.

Of course she backed out. With her lack of intelligence, qualifications, radical beliefs the debate would be a gurantee she would lose the election.
If the voters in Nevada should happen to vote this radical in, heaven help them of our country.

Angle should have taken debate classes in high school but it appears she has stage fright. I don't blame her because she's proven not to be prepared to control her own life and politics is no place to run away from the public.

Did he say WHY she was backing out? That might have implications. Did the host just arbitrarily set a date? Is it possible the Deputy Campaign Manager said "he would check on the date?" and it's being misinterpreted?

This sounds a bit fishy. I think I'll wait until I see "the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey used to say.

I think Mr. Reid should show up and wait for Ms. Angle to arrive. It seems this lady is way too uninformed and uneducated to understand what is needed in the new era to move forward. It seems she is hiding and just want to be secretly appointed to the position rather than face the challenges. We do not appoint people to Senate rather we elect people to Senate. Ms. Angle wake up and do not be a coward you need to educate us on your beliefs and way to address problems. Debate is the only way we "the voters" will know who you are and your beliefs!

Is the state of Nevada really surprised at this woman backing out of responsibilities? Is this who they really want representing them?

It has become painfully obvious that her backers want her to win this election and that she has had enougth of the associated turmoil on her life already. "No mas" is probably what her Latino-aimed ad will say.

    Why does this surprise anybody?

Many of these Tea Party driven candidates will refuse to debate. Mr. Scott here in Florida cancelled debates with Bill McCollum.

It's one thing to say extreme things out on the campaign trail. It's another thing to have to explain some of the extreme things you've said. That's what a face-to-face debate requires.

All these mother Grizzlies like to have private meetings without the press. It's easy to be a hero in a vacuum. As long as these types of candidates don't speak in public, the Tea Party followers create any image they want of their candidate on message boards, twitter and Facebook.

Tea Party people are destroying America with their ignorance, and lack of critical thought.

Anyone who even thinks this is a story is a kook, or an idiot.

since this happens ALL THE TIME

at least she cancelled withing a couple hours of accepting, and, waaaay in advance, which is more than can be said for most.

If this is how this guy acts, I'd back out too. Seems very much a Reid supporter. I think it's fair to question how he's voted in the last few elections. I especially like the fact he went out blasting away to make sure he aired his grievance before we could hear an explanation from the Angle camp.

Now, if his story is completely true, then Angle does have some questions to answer. But, this seems very childish on his part.
