Gibbs hits back at Gingrich for Kenya comment

Robert Gibbs hit back at Newt Gingrich for saying Obama follows a 'Kenyan, anti-colonial' worldview.

Robert Gibbs hit back at Newt Gingrich for saying Obama follows a 'Kenyan, anti-colonial' worldview.

(CNN) – White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says he doesn't have the slightest idea what Newt Gingrich is talking about.

Gibbs' comments come a day after the former House Speaker told the National Review that President Obama follows a "Kenyan, anti-colonial" worldview that in turn supports his policy positions on a range of issues.

"I don't even have – quite frankly - the slightest idea what he's talking about," an amused Gibbs told ABC News Monday morning. "I think Newt Gingrich knows that he's trying to appeal to the fringe of people that don't believe the president was born in this country."

"You would normally expect better from somebody who held the position of speaker of the House," Gibbs added. "But, look, it's political season. And most people'll say anything. And Newt Gingrich does that … on a regular basis."

In his comments to the National Review – published on the conservative publication's Web site over the weekend - Gingrich also said Obama had conned his way into the Oval Office by painting himself as a mainstream American.

"This is a person who is fundamentally out of touch with how the world works, who happened to have played a wonderful con, as a result of which he is now president," he said, adding later "I think he worked very hard at being a person who is normal, reasonable, moderate, bipartisan, transparent, accommodating – none of which was true. In the Alinksy tradition, he was being the person he needed to be in order to achieve the position he needed to achieve . . . He was authentically dishonest."

"What if [Obama] is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together [his actions]?" he also said. "That is the most accurate, predictive model for his behavior."

Gingrich, who is currently campaigning for fellow Repubicans running in this year's midterm elections and who is considering a possible run for the White House in 2012, said he was basing his comments on a recent column in Forbes Magazine by Dinesh D'Souza that concludes the president's worldview was significantly shaped by that of his Kenyan-born father.

"The invisible father provides the inspiration, and the son dutifully gets the job done. America today is governed by a ghost," writes D'Souza in Forbes.

I would pay to have someone translate Newt's comments into something intelligent. He is beginning to sound a lot like Sarah.

  4. Vet For Obama

These Republicans are a disgrace and will say anything to push their election agenda. First they accused Obama of being part of a radical Christian church for 20 years, and then they say he is a Muslim. They say he never had a strong father figure in his life since Obama hardly knew his dad and besides, his father passed away when he was still a kid. Now, Newt is saying that his world view was significantly shaped by his "Kenyan" born father as if to say having a Kenyan father is a crime against the laws of the United States. Go ahead, Newt, push your bigotry and undercover racism.

Since when are Newt Gingrich, the Republicans and the Tea Party known for being normal, reasonable, moderate, bipartisan, transparent, and accommodating? Obama is moderate and has attempted to be bipartisan, but the Republicans won't agree with ANYTHING that he does or says.

Totally agree with Newt. Good grief, all you have to do is read "Dreams OF My Father" and a little research on HIS father. It's not rocket science.

The people that still believe that this President is concerned about a thriving American economy are the same people who don't understand Islam. Pick up a book and read it. Start by reading the Imam's own book and checking into his own words.

America is waking up, but those stuck to the teat of the government are having a harder time.

The Democrats problem is they are being "too nice" to the Republican party.

They need to view the Republicans as Al Qaeda and treat them accordingly.

I think Newt is off his medication. He is apparently getting so desperate for attention, he comes up with comments no reasonable person would even consider as true.

Obama is not a "mainstream American"? Sounds like Gingrich and his ilk don't think that people of color with intelligence are American.

Gingrich is appealing to dimwitted Tea Party people. I guess they have to get their information somewhere, since facts are not for them.

Newt "Victory Mosque" Gingrich strikes again! Talk about "being the person he needed to be in order to achieve the position he needed to achieve"! He and Sarah "Jab In The Heart" Palin should form their own vast right wing conspiracy group. As a proven writer of fiction D'Souza (the Neocon? Someone is still listening to that guy? Why would Forbes publish any of the propaganda that academic poseur puts out?) would fit right in.

As for Obama: of course he isn't a regular guy. Regular guys don't get elected President. He's an extraordinary guy facing an unimaginably difficult task, which the sore loser Republicans are trying to make even harder at America's peril.

Another branch of the "Tin Foil Hats For EVERYONE" crew.
Is there really any doubt that Gingrich is trying to imply/infer/suggest that President Obama has a racial/ethnic/Religious (Muslim) political/social agenda?

And it's going to get worse from now to election day 2012.

The Newt is seriously out of his element when it comes to telling the truth. Just ask his ex-wives what kind of man he is - a liar, a cheater, a man who's ego is so big that he believes he can say anything to anybody on any subject and not be called on it for backing it up with facts when he lies and cheats. The man has been, is, and will forever be a lying loser - pure and simple.

  25. Bipartisanship?

Meanwhile, the President showed his thanks to Louisiana Republican Joseph Gau for coming across the aisle to support the Health Care bill. Obama is endorsing the Democratic candidate Cedric Richmond who has a controversial past and is running against Gao. So much for bipartisanship! This is a lesson for all Republicans who are lured into getting their vote bought by the Administration with false promises. "You scratch my back, I'll stab you in yours." "Don't worry Gao, uh, uh, I've got your back, yeah that's it. All hands on deck." Now who is getting treated like a dog!

Stay true to your values, Republicans, and don't yield to any promises of bipartisanship or support when it comes time for you to seek reelection because his true colors will be seen. And don't contribute to this agenda of cowering to demands from some Muslim Imam. This is our country, start taking charge, and quit backing down!
