The speech - to be delivered at Julia R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - encourages students to make the most of their education opportunities.
"Nobody gets to write your destiny but you," Obama will say, according to a text of the speech released Monday night by the White House. "Your future is in your hands. Your life is what you make of it. And nothing - absolutely nothing - is beyond your reach. So long as you're willing to dream big. So long as you're willing to work hard. So long as you're willing to stay focused on your education."
Obama goes on to emphasize the importance of education in the text, saying it "never has been more important."
I'm sure he's pushing our kids hard, they have to pay for his multi-trillion spending spree!
...and it helps immensely when you enroll in major universities as a "foreign" student and have the US taxpayers pay for your education. When you graduate, you won't be able to read and write but oh well, you have a higher education diploma and that's all that matters these days.
Last year at this time. the opposition knocked themselves out to scare parents into not letting their school age children hear the speech that the president had planned. Scare tactics, which are not new to the repubs, in fact I think they invented them are de rigueur again this year. To the Repubs disappointment last year, the president gave an inspirational, encouraging, honest talk about working hard and getting a good education. We couldn't have asked for more. SO, what happens this year?..Same old repub garbage!!What WILL happen...? quite probably a well appointed, intellegent important talk aimed at students as to why they should work hard, get a good education and enjoy doing it. Wake up parents. your fear is counted on by the opposition..
,
Lol oh man I can just imagine those days where I heard the republicans say "he has no right to tell me how to raise my child"
He never said anything like that, you idiot. All he said was study hard and get good grades. No wonder we are way behind in the rest of the world cause this country is full of morons
Yeah, and make sure they all go to college (even if they aren't college minded) since you ushered in the government control of college loans. Then they can be in debt to the government for the rest of their lives along with their children and grandchildren.
Why work hard when this president tells all the lazy individuals that they don't HAVE to work and he will simply take money from the "rich" and give to them. Obama is a 21st century Robin Hood and why in the world would anyone WANT to work when they don't have to? Why not tell ALL people that you can fail or succeed based on your OWN hard work. Race doesn't matter. Sex doesn't matter. Religion doesn't matter. Work hard and you can succeed and become a Republican where your income will be stolen from the Federal Government. Don't work hard and you can be a Democrat for life taking stolen money from those who work and given to you................
And the Right Wingers will find fault in this how?????
Like the man said.. he can say the sky is blue and they will scream that it is red. It gets old... old really fast.
Lets move the nation forward already instead of trying to oppose every single thing our (MINE, YOURS) President says or does.
Our family, including my children are proud to call you our President.
You epitomize what is decent and good about America, President Obama. You continue to show resolve , concern and empathy towards all people, even when some have reached the bottom of the pit with their rhetoric and actions. We know you are doing your best to fix this broken and complex nation. Thank you!
This aspect of his job is where President Obama can serve a purpose: he is qualified to speak to children in American schools about studying, if not specifically about subjects like economics and sociology.
