Brown in 20-year fight with Bill Clinton

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption =" Brown had some strong words for Bill Clinton."]
(CNN) – California gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown, a Democrat, is in a tiff with former President Bill Clinton – or at least the Bill Clinton from nearly two-decades ago.

The brouhaha erupted after rival Meg Whitman's campaign launched a television ad showing an interview with Clinton in 1992 – then a presidential candidate running against Brown for the party's nomination – during which he accuses Brown of raising taxes in California when he was governor in the late 1970's and early 1980's.

Clinton was basing his comment on a CNN report at the time. However the CNN correspondent who reported the story, Brooks Jackson, wrote on Saturday that his reporting was inaccurate - taxes were not higher when Brown left office.

Speaking to voters at an event Sunday, Brown lambasted Whitman for running the ad, as well as Clinton himself for the decades-old comment.

"Meg Whitman, she stops at nothing," said Brown Sunday, which can be seen in exclusive video posted on "She's even got Bill Clinton lying about me. That's right. Did you see that, where he said I raised taxes? It's a lie. I mean Clinton's a nice guy, but whoever said he always told the truth?"

The off-the-cuff Brown then added a not-so-subtle reference to Clinton's involvement in the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

"You remember right? There's this whole story about did he or didn't he," said Brown. "Ok, I did not have taxes with this state. So let's be clear about that."

Clinton has been in high demand this campaign season, but it's probably safe to say the former president won't be making any stops on behalf of Brown.

Having lived in CA. during the Moonbeam regime...I will hold my nose and vote Whitman...I hate reruns and Brown is just an wrinkled old ass democrat who doesn't know when to quit. They said McCain was "too old" in '08...well, so is Moonbeam...oops, I forgot, he's a liberal.

Of all the stupid moves to make, to go after the most popular Democrat we've got! Who is advising Jerry Brown? Bad idea. They've already reported that Clinton used a news report that was wrong at the time. To say that he is a liar is overkill. Brown has waited too long to start campaigning, anyway. He should have the easiest chore in the world – running roughshod over Whitman – but for some reason he is lagging. This isn't the Jerry Brown I voted for years ago. His political sense must be rusty. He used to be one of the most gifted of politicians.

  5. GOP Scorched Earth Politics

Just the fact that Elitist Billionaire Meg Whitman had to dig-up video clip of the '92 Democratic Presidential Primary to find something to use against Brown symbolizes how delusional and desperate her campaign is. Nice touch by the GOP lunatics here that label Californians as "flakes" and "nuts".

Kal-E-Fornina's electorate have to be reminded of the suffering, conniving, scheming and lack of leadership under the present phony wanna be governor.

Arnold exemplifies the horrendous job the Republicans can do to a once viable state.

The not-so-learned-but greedy-governor was in on Enron's strategic scheming to juice the public on the wattage ploy.

Meg Whitman is a blood brother to these homogeneous Neanderthals

    Be afraid California-be very afraid!!.
