Washington (CNN) – National Democrats are sharpening their criticism of House Minority Leader John Boehner, airing a second national commercial charging that the Ohio Republican is too close to powerful interest groups in the nation's capital.
The Democratic National Committee is already airing a TV ad that accuses Boehner of helping big business at the expense of working Americans. The new commercial, which will air on MSNBC through the end of the week, is largely based on a recent story in The New York Times that highlights his ties to lobbyists.
A DNC official tells CNN that the goal is to try and tie Boehner to past Republican scandals and K-Street, the corridor that cuts through the nation's capital where many lobbying shops are housed. Boehner is in line to become the speaker if Republicans were to win the House majority in November.
Michael Steel, a Boehner's spokesman dismissed the ad as a Democratic attack designed to shift the conversation away from the economy.
"Out-of-touch and flailing, Washington Democrats are desperate to change the topic, but the American people won't forget their job-killing record," Steel said. "The premise of this ad is just silly."
Sorry, I must have missed how much the Dems have done to keep jobs in the US. All we hear from Dems is that Repubs want to allow tax incentives for companies that ship jobs overseas. Well Dems have controlled congress for 4 years and for nearly 2 years you had a super majority and yet you come up with nothing to stop the flow of jobs. I guess we can assume it is because you silently support that policy too....
The Dems are in bed with special interest groups. Just look at SEIU and the big unions.
It's not silly, it's totally appropriate. And as for shifting attention away from the economy, no need to do that. Most Americans don't have short-term memory and remember that it was Boehner and his ilk that caused this mess.
His spokesman says "the premise of this add is just silly"...Go to Opensecrets.org to see how silly it is. You will find that almost 40% of his funding comes from K Street. Let me tell you, Mr Spokesman, what is silly. It is silly to blatantly LIE on the internet.
Love it!
Put it on MSNBC is a great idea. NOBODY will see it.
Thanks and keep up the good work.
ROFL
John Boehner is flip flopping only because he wants to be the next leader. He is not to be trusted he does not want to do anything for the middle class and the disadvantage. He only wants to help the rich and cater to Lobbyist.
Voters don't be fooled by his rhetoric and the rest of the GOP they are still the party of "no" and are obstructionist that's why nothing can get done. The President is not the problem he is the solution. We can not return to what put us in this trouble.
Things will get better if we vote these people out they are holding up progress in this country.
Opps, John! You flip-flopped again. The party of NO has no answers and keeps telling us that they will release their program soon. I heard that 6 months ago! The Party of NO and its followers have got to go. Maybe to Afghanistan where they can try to win the war they supported. Get them out of America!
Make the future house speaker a boogyman......too bad it will backfire. The truth is, the dems have had congress for 4 years now and if they can't run on anything they accomplished while they held the reins through this bad economic recession, 2010 will make 1994 look like a agme of tiddley winks......50 more days folks.....dems, its ok to be scared!
This strategy of trying to demonize House Minority Leader John Boehner is a "Hail Mary" for the Democrats. It is weak and will backfire on them.
John Boehner is not in the same sleazy politician league as Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi or Barack Obama. He performs his public service with a strong consistent set of values dictated by what is good for the country, not the political flavor of the day.
This man has been a prime example if what's wrong with the gop. He loves to say "Hell, NO!"- but has no solutions. He and his party drove this country into the ditch. You CONServatives can yell that this is "Liberals pewing" all you want...but FACTS back us up.
As someone who lives in John Boehner's district (Southwest Ohio), I just want to say how PROUD we are that he is our representative. We continue to vote him in overwhelmingly because he does what his conservative district wants him to do.
Wow! A politician who actually follows what his constituents want, regardless of the political landscape in other areas of the country? What a novel idea. For those of you who bash him...you have no idea how good he's been for our district!
If all you can harp on is the fact that he has a tan, it proves you have no real substance to your argument.
I'd rather see 20 Nancy Pelosi's in office than one drunk Boehner.
Boehener is great than obama im belived that boehener are very strong than democratic
