O’Donnell in 1999: I dabbled in witchcraft

(CNN) – Newly-minted Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell – who already has had to contend with a string of controversial statements she has made in the past – once said she “dabbled into witchcraft.”

The latest eyebrow-raising comment was revealed Friday by liberal comedian and talk show host Bill Maher, who, as host of the now-canceled show “Politically Incorrect,” had O’Donnell on his program several times as a guest.

“I dabbled into witchcraft - I never joined a coven. But I did, I did. ... I dabbled into witchcraft,” O’Donnell said during a 1999 appearance on the show, which ran on ABC. “I hung around people who were doing these things. I'm not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do.”

She then described one of her first dates – with a witch “on a satanic altar.”

“I didn't know it,” she said. “I mean, there's little blood there and stuff like that. We went to a movie and then had a midnight picnic on a satanic altar.”

Maher showed the clip Friday on his HBO show, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” and pledged to unveil additional clips every week if O’Donnell does not appear on his current show.

A spokesman for the O’Donnell campaign did not respond to CNN’s request for comment.

O’Donnell, the Tea Party-backed candidate who scored a surprise win over establishment pick Rep. Mike Castle on Tuesday, has largely run on a socially conservative platform.

I'm glad CNN and MSNBC find us this information, but I wish they would dig like this on Democrats. I doubt Obama would have been elected if his closet had been checked and reported prior to the election. Seeing how they treat Republicans and comparing that to the treatment of Democrats, I don't see how anyone can claim there is not media bias. It's sad that there is no media outlet now adays with journalistic intergrity that just reports the unbiased truth. Fox is the RNC's mouthpiece and CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, LA Times, Wash. Times and pretty much the rest of the mainstream media just report the DNC's talking points for the day. So sad.....

Witchcraft and satanism are two totally different things. Witchcraft/wicca has been a recognized religion in most of the world since the mid 300's.
Wicca was finally recognized as a religion in 1952. In 2009, the US added the Pagan symbol to those religious symbols already available on the burial urns of veterans.
Wicca/witchcraft does not believe in Satan as a diety. Satan is a Christian manifestation and appears in the Bible as an entity.
Whatever else this woman may be, she really does not appear to know what she is talking about in this article-although she does say that she only 'dabbled', that may excuse her.

Real witchcraft has nothing to do with Satan or devil-worshipers. This woman, whatever she has done in the past, has nothing to do with real witches who believe in a God and a Goddess, neither of whom has anything to do with evil or the Devil. Witchcraft has a creed of "if ye harm none, do what ye will" and does NOT practice sacrifice. Blood is NOT involved. Few in this religion practice sexual rituals at all. Rituals are not dating venues. Finally, the altar is a sacred space – no believer in this religion would 'have a picnic' on it.

If you are going to condemn her on her behavior, fine, but don't drag real believers who have peace in their hearts and nothing to do with this woman or her behavior into it.

You can not make this stuff up. This is what happen when you vote for people out of anger. Tea Baggers are voting these far right nuts without even vetting them. Sara Palin was not vetted and look what she have done.

And, for reasons that escape me, people are going to condemn O’Donnell for "dabbling in witchcraft," but would approve of involvement in the equally silly set of superstitions of Christianity.

O'Donnell is a con artist. As with every con, she knows how to sell herself. She is not someone this country or the state of Delaware needs in Washington to represent the people. PLEASE Delaware DO NOT VOTE THIS WOMAN INTO OFFICE.

Honestly, how much longer before a sex tape comes out on this women? Liberal or conservative, you have to admit this woman cares less about public service than seeing her face on the TV. The Tea Party seems to have a lot of griting fame-whores.

Ok, I understand disagreeing with the current government, I understand having a different political view, but, I don't understand, how you can fall for a group of con people that are using your unhappiness. People, you fell for the greedy nutcases on wall street, that promised you untold riches, you fall for TV preachers who promise you salvation for money. Just because a politician promises you guns, god and is anti-gay, does NOT mean they are looking out for your best interests. Jeez, get a clue, will ya!

the real ib, ("I feel sorry for this woman. Wonder how much of this junk is true and how much is lies?"), did you bother to read past the headline? There is videotape of the woman saying "this junk" on national television. And she hasn't denied the rest of the junk (using campaign donations for living expenses, failure to pay income tax, lying about her education, lying about her margin of defeat in previous elections), she's "explained" it. And when that didn't end the questions she blamed Washington insiders and the elite media for even bothering to bring up these silly non-issues. Hey, it works for Sarah.

I disagree with all these comments about how her opponents are dragging up dirt on her. Or if they're lies. These are direct quotes right from her mouth about how she practiced witch craft. Do you people not see how looney these people are???
