O'Donnell brushes off Rove criticisms

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption ="Delaware GOP Senate nominee O'Donnell tweeted late Sunday night that if she had the powers of a witch, Karl Rove would back her candidacy."]

Washington (CNN) - Christine O'Donnell appears to be trying to use humor to defuse a decades-old admission that she once "dabbled into witchcraft," which prompted leading Republican strategist Karl Rove to urge the Delaware GOP Senate nominee to further explain her statement.

Rove, on "Fox News Sunday," said that O'Donnell "can't simply ignore" the fact that she said during a 1999 episode of "Politically Incorrect" that "I dabbled into witchcraft – I never joined a coven. But I did, I did. … I dabbled into witchcraft." O'Donnell also said during the taping of the show that one of her first dates with a witch was "on a satanic altar."

O'Donnell tweeted late Sunday night that if she had the powers of a witch then Rove would be backing her candidacy.

"I did comment that if I were a witch, Rove would be a supporter," O'Donnell wrote on the microblog. "I would have turned him into a "Newt", because Gingrich says we win."

O'Donnell is referring to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who has expressed support for her campaign. O'Donnell, a social conservative and Tea Party-favorite candidate, shocked the political world last week when she defeated GOP establishment-backed Rep. Mike Castle for the right to run as the Republican nominee for Senate in November.

She is the latest merger of entertainment and politics.

Will she provide plenty of great quotes and tag lines? - You bettcha!

Will she have the skill to craft legislation to shape our direction for the coming years - NOT!

So, what do voters want? Amusement or leadership?

And this is a person who wants to represent the people of her state. No job, no straight message, no detailed plans, no sign of leadership, no way she can go to Washington to "work" with the other Senators. Just another political hack who wants attention.

The IQs for those who voted for her (and will again) must be really low.

I propose there be a pop quiz for voters before they vote to prove that all their mental faculties are there.

The Dems are laughing at the Republicants b/c this is the BEST they have to offer.

There has got to be some GOP women out there with some intellect and common sense. Why does it seem that only the ones with extreme right wing views seem to get on the ballots? Tells us a little about their electorate.

I am just astounded that people are taking this so seriously. This whole business about Satanic alters is just nonsense. Actually, the whole witchcraft is satanic argument is just nonsense in and of itself. The only reason she even says that is because she is so entrenched in the religious right's pocket that saying anything else would endanger their support of her. And THAT is the reason to possibly not vote for her. Not the dabbling part. She was in High School, for crying out loud. SO, how far back DO we go to hold someone accountable for their actions (not that this should require accountability. it's just silly). It's going to be a loooong 6 weeks.

Were you talking witch as in Wiccan (doubtful)

Witch as in Satanic? (would be incorrect and also not likely)

It has been shown that this woman tends to 'stretch the truth' when in front of a camera. I

She is good. I am not certain about a leader but she might shake things up in Washington. Will she owe DeMint and Palin and if so to what extend?

Thank you Tea Party! You're the gift that keeps giving. Nice to know the democrats won't be losing a seat in Delaware.

This is the kind of people the Tea Party brings out.

Who the heck "dabbles" in witchcraft. I wouldn't even know where to find people like that. What a goofball. To think this is the kind of person the Tea Party wants to elect?

The world must be about to end. I actually agree with something that Karl Rove said. Then again, a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Rove should tread lightly with his criticisms of O'Donnell. He doesn't want to suffer the consequences of an angry satanic witch who can cast evil spells.

The Tea Party deserves this woman. The Republican Party deserve this woman and any group of people electing her deserve this woman.

What is exactly her qaulification to be a US senator? What is on her resume? Any experience in writing and passing any bills? She is a sweet lady, but I do not think she is ready to be in the national political arena yet. Voters – Please think of the bigger impact of electing someone who has no idea how this country works.

I find it insulting that your news commentators feel free to mock what is a valid religion. Many intelligent people have chosen witchcraft as a spiritual path and it is appalling that your station has been treating it with derision and disdain. How would it look if O'Donnell had dabbled in Judaism and your talking heads couldn't mention it without chuckling and rolling their eyes? Seriously, get your heads out of whatever darkness in which you have had them ensconsed and join the 21st century! Witchcraft is a religion based on a dual deity, male and female. It reveres nature, family, community and it's main creed is "Harm None." In the future, would you please bother to invest five minutes into researching a religiion before your have your news desk laugh at it on national television?

There is no better poster child than this intellectually bankrupt cow to be poster child of everything wrong withh America. She out-Palins Palin, and that is hard to do.

I am no Tea Partier, nor am I an O'Donnell supporter, but saying you dabbled in witchcraft in high school is non-news to me. If our President can snort cocaine as a young adult and get away with it, why is this important? Why not look at her opponent's college record as an extreme Marxist? Isn't that more applicable?

I'm glad she's making light of this . Will she be laughing when she'll have to withdraw her campaign because of the increased heat of this issue? This witchcraft is NOT something you can sweep under the rug.
    Butter her up, she's TOAST!
