Group applauds inclusion of abortion in 'Pledge'

Washington (CNN) - They're not prominent, but social issues are addressed in the House Republicans' "Pledge to America," which GOP lawmakers in the House formally unveiled Thursday. And a social conservative group is applauding the move and says their efforts may have helped push the language into the document.

The 21-page document does include a "pledge to honor families, traditional marriage, life, and the private and faith-based organizations that form the core of our American values."

Lower in the document, there's a call for opposition to the use of taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions, which is tied to the larger issue of overhauling the new health care reform law.

Several Republican sources said there was no intention to directly address social issues because the electorate is so heavily focused on jobs and spending. But the language was added, according to a GOP source, after conservative Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana argued that social issues should be included in the document representing the agenda of House Republicans.

The Susan B. Anthony List on Thursday applauded the release of the document.

"Today, in its 'Pledge to America' the pro-life Republican House leadership has echoed the voices of pro-life Americans calling for a Congress that will protect Life. The pro-life legislative priorities included in their Pledge reinforce Republican Party unity as we approach these critical mid-term elections," said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, in a statement.

"The Susan B. Anthony List looks forward to mobilizing our grassroots network of over 280,000 pro-life Americans in support of the strongly pro-life GOP leadership and new members in order to pass this and other commonsense pro-life legislation right away in the next Congress," added Dannenfelser.

The group, also known as SBA, is a non-profit organization with a mission to advance politicians who oppose abortion. SBA says that in the weeks leading up to the release of the Pledge, they mobilized more than 10,000 people to petition House GOP leaders to make sure abortion language was included in the document.

“…pledge to honor families, traditional marriage, life, and the private and faith-based organizations that form the core of our American values." So in other words, we want you to have all the freedom that we will allow you to have. Good luck with that.

Traditional marriage was a property exchange. In ancient times there were not many things a man could own of less worth than a daughter. And it was not between a one man and one woman, it was between one man and as many women as he could afford.

The GOP and their supporters constantly, talk about how they don't want the Government in their lives and what to do with their bodies(healthcare) but when it comes to abortion they jump right in to say we want to tell you what to do!!

Remember what they did to Terry Schivos family in Flordia and told THEM what to to! They will not stay out of our private lives, nor will they let us LIVE them the way(s) WE deem fit! Small government = BIG invasions! That's the Republican way of life!

Had to laugh when the GOP politicians wearing open shirts and talking about the Pledge On America. the only thing mising was Gingrich from his Contract On America. I guess he was busy looking for his next affair. The group standing and walking was funny , It was hard to figure out whether they escaped from the C st residence or the LOG cabin republicans.Even Boehner looked like he dyed himself from his orange look but what stole the show was Boehners BLOODSHOT EYES. I just had cataract surgery and the COLOR was remarkable.

I Pledge Allegiance ONLY to the FLAG and
NOT to the RepubliCAN'Ts of America!!!!!!
And to the Tea Party – For what they ARE NOT!!
For ALL Nationalities – ALL middle class People
And they’re hoping we don't PROSPER at all!!!

The RepubliCAN'T's Pledge to America is NOthing more than what we had 8 years ago. Democrats should RUN AWAY with this instead of just RUNNING AWAY from what we have accomplished so far.

We MUST remember the Democrats who are 'betraying' us and get them OUT during the next election!!! Hopefully, at this point, they should LOSE since they want to be so much like a RepubliCAN'T!! And if they DO win – we will REMEMBER!!!

Democrats – the voters have to UNITE the BASE and stick together because we are the ones that will make a difference!!! Yes We Can!!!

T'SAH the Original Liberal and I approve this message!!

notice how democrats dont want anyone to control what comes out of their body, but they are dying to control what we all put into our bodies. if you're such a proponent of freedom then shut the hell up when i eat a sirloin steak (rare), enjoy a beer, and have a cigar afterwards. heck, if i wanna eat mcdonalds for the rest of my life, what the hell business is it of yours? barbaric whiny hypocritical control freaks dont realize they sound exactly like republicans when they say they know what's best for the ignorant masses. remember, only a woman can murder her unborn child, if someone else does it, it's suddenly a murder charge. so taking the life of an unborn child is not murder but then again it is. ok whatever. PRO LIFE, PRO GAY MARRIAGE,

    This is nothing new.

In fact, there is nothing at all new in this GOP "Pledge to America." It's the same old robotic drivel the Republicans have been putting in their convention platforms for the last 30 years. New Republican politicans just repeat the same old - very old - phrases over and over and over.
