CNN Poll: GOP has big advantage

(CNN) – With a little over a month until Election Day, Congressional Republicans have the clear advantage with voters nationwide, a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll says.

In a generic ballot matchup, the Republican leads the Democrat by 9 points among likely voters - 53 percent to 44 percent.

That spread is slightly smaller than the 55-42 percent advantage Democrats had at the same point in 2006, ahead of their major electoral victories that handed them control of both the House and Senate.

But the new survey suggests Republicans could be in even a better position than they were in 1994, when the GOP stunned the Democrats with their gain of 54 seats in the House and eight seats in the upper chamber. In a generic matchup poll in late September of 1994, Republicans only had a 3-point edge over Democrats, 48-45 percent.

The new CNN poll also suggests more than 20 percent of likely voters have still yet to make up their minds when it comes to whom they will vote for – a margin that could ultimately decide whether Democrats hold onto tenuous majorities.

The new poll interviewed 1,010 adult Americans by telephone between September 21-23. It carries a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Dems were only behind in the polls by three points in 1994, when they lost 52 house seats... during a time of relatively good economic conditions, a bustling economy, a decent stock market, a failed attempt to take over medical care and unemployment in the range of 5.6%.

Today, they're behind by THREE TIMES as many points in the polling by CNN's dem-friendly polling, and they're running in a time of historic horrendous economic conditions, a collapsed economy, a gutted field-dressed stock market, blow-torched retirement accounts, a successful takeover of medical care, and nearly DOUBLE the unemployment of 1994.

Oh yeah, conservatives might just pick up "a seat or two."
Expect an electoral blow-out that will make 1994 look like the shift change at Starbucks.

To all who wants to BLOG and laugh about President Obama was supposed to come down from HEAVEN and perform miracles – Remember, JESUS had a hard time too and YOU never know!!! Jeez!

All of those who are DOWNING the President and believe the GOP has a better plan – is in for a RUDE AWAKENING. The GOP’s pledge is based on LIES and they are not offering anything!! They are campaigning on the Health Care Reform bill and pretending they are REPEALING it – they are NOT!! They are removing what they believe is GOOD – which is MOST of it – and eliminate everything else because they know it’s a good plan but don’t want to admit it!! They will NEVER succeed in repealing Health Care Reform. They are LIARS and America better wake up!!

Those who should REALLY WAKE UP are the Democrats who are betraying their party!!!! We have made so many accomplishments in the past two years that YOU will NEVER see again if the RepubliCAN'Ts take over!!! No one is doing their own research and finding out the TRUTH on their own!!! Many Americans rather believe the FOX Liars – Palin – Limbaugh – Beck – Hannity – Gingrinch – Cheney – which means they are in favor of far-right EXTREMISM!!!! Democrats ARE NOT far-right EXTREMIST – so WAKE UP!!!

DEMOCRATS – they DO NOT POLL US – they POLL Republicans and don't let the HYPE fool you!!!!! The POLLS lie and it's all propaganda to get us to STAY HOME or CHANGE our VIEWS!!!!

Please check on Small Businesses and see what the RepubliCAN'Ts consider a SMALL BUSINESS – Health Care will benefit us more than it will NOT and the RepubliCAN'Ts have NO INTENTIONS on Repealing it – Financial Reform, Don't Ask Don't Tell – Getting rid of Social Security – getting rid of Medicare – getting rid of the Education Fund – Pro-Choice – keeping current TAX CUTS in place for the RICH; NO ONE makes over 250,000 a year that I know and most likely 0will NEVER see 250,000 in five years!! But yet the RepubiliCAN'Ts are making you believe that they are helping you by leaving the TAX CUTS as they are – more of the SAME and more of BUSH POLITICS… WE CANNOT ALLOW THE REPUBLICAN'TS TO TAKE OVER THE HOUSE/SENATE!!!!!

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE CORRUPTION!! Don't believe the POLLS – get out there and VOTE and stop waiting for someone else to fight for you. All Americans will pay for the consequences of a RepubkliCAN’T takeover!!

I am T'SAH from Virginia – FIRED UP – and ready to UNITE the BASE and back our President Obama!!!!! Two years is NOT ENOUGH TIME to straighten out the MESS the RepubliCAN’Ts caused in the first place and was handed to President Obama!!!

Polls don't represent what the majority of voters will do in the voting booth. No sane American is going to vote for these extremist, lunatic and corrupt tea baggers who RUN from the media and refuse to answer simple questions on where they stand on the issues. That is probably because they do not know what issues the People are facing.
This new Republican "pledge" is absurd and nothing but a reworded duplicate of the failed Bush years. There is NOTHING in it about how to create jobs, how to restore our economy, how to stop companies from sending American jobs overseas, how to become the leader in alternative energy, how to solve the immigration issue, and how better to support our returning soldiers. In short, it has NO details on ANYTHING. What is does say is that Republicans want to only extend the Bush tax cuts to the billionaires. Under Bush this led to a major loss of jobs, a freefalling economy, and a worse situation for the middle class. Republicans also want to remove all regulation on banks, oil companies and other industries who have already destroyed our financial system once and destroyed our environment in the Gulf. They also plan to cut government spending by elminatiing Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment benefits, Veteran benefits, and repeal healthcare which is already saving lives of 50M Americans. Their "pledge" was written by LOBBYISTS which proves again they only listen to special interests and ignore the People. Even Republicans are speaking out against it and saying it is nothing but a disaster plan for our country. Tea baggers want to take it farther by eliminating public schools, repealing the Civil Rights Act, making rape victims have their rapist's baby, and remove healthcare coverage of austitic children and pregnant women.
Is this the America you want to live in??
We need to throw out these arrogant unAmerican Republicans who care nothing about the People or the real issues facing us.
Democrats are NOT in trouble. In local polls, Democrats are ahead as much as 20 points over their Republican opponents. Americans are waking up to the reality of what Republicans are really doing and how they are the Party of Destruction and Hate. Democrats have worked HARD all year delivering solutions that are helping the People of this nation right now. Democrats will keep moving us forward, put fines on companies who send American jobs overseas, make middle tax cuts permanent, broaden healthcare benefits to ensure we get the care we deserve as human beings, and keep large corporations from abusing us with even stronger consumer protections.
Democrats are leading us out of the Republican mess they left us. Republicans want to take us back to the horror of the Bush years and they proved it with the release of their pledge which states it very clearly.
Get out and vote for our continued progress – vote for the Democrats and watch the middle class become strong again, jobs come back to America, and see America become the greatest economic power in the world again.
Reject the Republicans lies and hate and intolerance. They do not represent American values or our best interests.

"CNN, you need to learn how to take a poll. Latest Gallop polls show Dems ahead for the midterms."

Larry, of the last 10 polls taken, the Republicans are leading in 8. It's you sir who needs to learn a thing or two. WIth that said, a reminder to each of the Republicans on this site...the Dems have lost favor in this country, the Republicans haven't gained it. HUGE difference.

I love this and the TEA Party. The TEA Party is nothing more than the new "Progressive Party". Those who forget history is bound to repeat it. Funny how this is almost 100 years later and the Republicans are "repeating" their mistakes. For you who don't know in 1912 Teddy Roosevelt form the progressive party and split the vote between Taft allowing Woodrow Wilson a land slide victory. Go TEA Party, split the vote!!!! Best thing Dems could have every hoped for. Morons!

A poll of 1,010 telephone contacts id NOT representative of the minds of 115,000,000 eligible voters. CNN why don't you just come out now and tell us who won in all the November 2, 2010 elections ? It will save a lot of time for everyone.
