Palin targets 'damned lies'

(CNN) - Sarah Palin announced the launch of a new website Thursday, aimed at defeating twenty incumbent Democrats who voted for President Obama's health care bill and who are running in districts that swung Republican during the 2008 presidential election.

In the announcement on her Facebook page, entitled "Lies, Damned Lies – Obamacare 6 Months Later," the former GOP vice presidential nominee resurrects her claims that "rationing 'death panels'" are included in the health care bill and promotes the new site, which endorses candidates who support the bill's repeal.

Palin is unspecific as to what section of the final bill she refers to as creating 'death panels,' but does link to her original Facebook post which sparked a storm of controversy in 2009. In the post, she stated that the health care bill would create "death panels" that would decide whether people "are worthy of health care."

The claims caused a headache for the Obama administration and propelled outrage among the bill's opponents.

The section which critics of the of the original bill referred to as 'rationing care' and establishing 'death panels' was one which required Medicare to pay doctors for consultations with patients about "advance care planning," such as the drafting of living wills. Those consultations would include "an explanation by the practitioner of the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice."

In a statement released in 2009, the American Medical Association, which endorsed the bill, said it "would not mandate that patients take advantage of this benefit."

"The new Medicare benefit would allow doctors to be compensated for such consultations every five years, and more frequently if a patient has a life-limiting illness or health status changes," the organization said.

TakeBackThe20, which is funded by Palin's political action committee  SarahPAC, features a map of the United States with crosshairs over the targeted districts and a gallery of the conservative candidates 'recommended' by SarahPAC.

This is not the first time Palin has used crosshairs to identify Democrats in districts that voted for John McCain in 2008. Following the health care vote in March, Palin received criticism for using a similar map and tweeting "commonsense conservatives & lovers of America, Don't Retreat, Instead – RELOAD!"

Can this woman get any more anti-American? The people who fought for health care are Americans too. We believe in the "promote the general welfare" provision of the Constitution. We are sick and tired of this woman promoting herself at the expenses of Americans and their health care. She is the liar. If the Republicans take control, and do what they say they want to do, it will be the end of this democracy. If she were telling the truth, which she can't seem to manage, she would tell you that. She is sickening. Vote Democratic to save the USA!

Wish Sarah would retreat to Alaska and care for her children instead of being a pest down here in the lower 48. Wish the media would stop covering her every stupid comment. She is the epitome of the "lame-brained politician". All she is doing is fanning the flames of hatred.

Palin is the typical fear-monger GOP-bagger. What else is new? When the Republican-baggers have nothing, nothing to offer...... they fall back on what they do best....... SPREADING FEAR. IF Americans believe these lies, we have serious mental issues! Next the GOP-baggers, will bring up Abortion, terrorism, etc. The GOP-bagger strategy remains constant: Hate, Fear, Lies and Division.

PS. CNN how can you keep telling America that the "Tea Party" is a "movement"? When the TRUTH IS, that the Tea Party was created by and is funded by the Koch brothers!

Dang she's stupid. Doesn't she realize that insurance companies are the death panels now? They need someone besides their CEO's to answer to. Sorry Sarah, but only the stupid will follow you. And you'll have a lot of followers.

It would be nice to hear Mrs. Palin discuss issues and ways to resolve them rather than constantly drawing on "Palinisms" for attention. It appears she knows very little but can pull out those few rallying crys from time to time. "Mama Grizzlies", "Lame stream Media", "Liberal Elite", "Take back our country", "death panels". Her followers don't seem to care if she actually knows something...only need to hear her be the"pit bull with lipstick".

that terrorist needs to stop lying, pure and simple. People who follow this nut obviously have NO mind of their own. CNN, how 'bout a 24-hour news cycle without coverage of this woman? We would appreciate it.

Palin is not an elected official. She holds no office. And she spreads misinformation wherever she goes. Certainly there must be a frog hopping contest or something more important out there to be covered by the news outlets.

Most physicians, especially those of us who are primary care physicians, are thrilled that we have a health care bill that goes into effect today. It is long overdue. I am saddened and puzzled why Republicans want to repeal the bill, and why people are not supportive of our president, the brightest and most dedicated since JFK.

Isn’t her family’s health care heavily subsidized by the gov’t as her husband is an indigenous native? Isn’t that socialism?

This is brilliant and, considering her position as a CANDIDATE who's already routed the enemy, gutsy (just like backing Christine was). She could just be sitting on her laurels now. There's no gutsier politician in this or any other country. Romney would have a psychological and physical breakdown if he did this–he'd start losing hair–but The Cuda jumps right in–cool Italian Hand gestures flying!

  19. Voice of Reason

The irony here is that she talks about 'lies' and 'damned lies' in the same breath as this nonsense about 'death panels'. Is there anyone who deosnt see that this lady is hypocritical in the extreme? It is evident that she either 1) counts on her audience being ignorant of the facts, or 2) is ignorant herself. Does she really hold that much contempt for Rhyme and Reason? Or just for the people she's duped into paying her $$MILLIONS$$ to speak at fundraisers, talkshows, and yes, even Glenn Beck's sacred march on Washington (she made some $400,000 for THAT appearance). The only thing uglier than money in politics is DIRTY money in politics.

I have to agree, that the bill puts in the hands of government, the ability to deny services to the elderly, and that can in effect be called a "death panel".

Seniors are being short-changed, significantly, to pay for this monstrous bill.

She nevey get over her lost of 2008 presidential election. That witchcraft practice. Get tough against her please.

What an idiot. It's pretty sad that someone who could have been a Vice President of this country can so blatantly lie to the people of this country. We are so fortunate she didn't make it into the White House. Sarah, just go away and quite being such a venomous snake!

Sarah Palin is a failed "sports journalist" and beauty pageant contestant who was unqualified to be mayor of a small Alaskan town, much less Governor of ANYTHING. It's a national embarrassment that this completely ignorant simpleton was even CONSIDERED for a national office of any kind. Honestly, this woman couldn't handle stapling things at the Department of Commerce. Why is ANYBODY listening to anything she has to say about anything?? She's just capitalizing on people's economic problems to gain more power and wealth for herself....getting out of Alaska was all she was ever about. Too bad McCain raised this nobody form obscurity...

This sort of speech from Palin has only one prupose. It's intended to be inflamatory. She uses what have proven to be flat out lies and grievous misinterpretations of the health care bill for the sole purpose of rallying people against things THAT JUST DON'T EXIST! Such deliberate misrepresentation by a public figure should be as illegal as shouting, "Fire!" in a crowded theater when there is none. Her blather is a cancer on our society.
