Palin targets 'damned lies'

(CNN) - Sarah Palin announced the launch of a new website Thursday, aimed at defeating twenty incumbent Democrats who voted for President Obama's health care bill and who are running in districts that swung Republican during the 2008 presidential election.

In the announcement on her Facebook page, entitled "Lies, Damned Lies – Obamacare 6 Months Later," the former GOP vice presidential nominee resurrects her claims that "rationing 'death panels'" are included in the health care bill and promotes the new site, which endorses candidates who support the bill's repeal.

Palin is unspecific as to what section of the final bill she refers to as creating 'death panels,' but does link to her original Facebook post which sparked a storm of controversy in 2009. In the post, she stated that the health care bill would create "death panels" that would decide whether people "are worthy of health care."

The claims caused a headache for the Obama administration and propelled outrage among the bill's opponents.

The section which critics of the of the original bill referred to as 'rationing care' and establishing 'death panels' was one which required Medicare to pay doctors for consultations with patients about "advance care planning," such as the drafting of living wills. Those consultations would include "an explanation by the practitioner of the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice."

In a statement released in 2009, the American Medical Association, which endorsed the bill, said it "would not mandate that patients take advantage of this benefit."

"The new Medicare benefit would allow doctors to be compensated for such consultations every five years, and more frequently if a patient has a life-limiting illness or health status changes," the organization said.

TakeBackThe20, which is funded by Palin's political action committee  SarahPAC, features a map of the United States with crosshairs over the targeted districts and a gallery of the conservative candidates 'recommended' by SarahPAC.

This is not the first time Palin has used crosshairs to identify Democrats in districts that voted for John McCain in 2008. Following the health care vote in March, Palin received criticism for using a similar map and tweeting "commonsense conservatives & lovers of America, Don't Retreat, Instead – RELOAD!"

People who are willing to lie in order to get power are not likely to become more honest once they are in office. Palin seems to have little or no regard for truthfulness, which is odd given her popularity with the religious right.

Palin is truly a mean vindictive person. You can see the hate in her face. She spreads fear and hatred in all her speeches. She has no respect for the truth. I will never forgive John McCain for bringing her to the national stage.

Yes, Sarah. All that "death panels" and "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" stuff worked so well for you in the campaign two years ago; might as well trot it out again. Beats thinking!

No civilized country with health care has death panels. Except the current system in the US. Insurers in the US, right now, are denying coverage to sick people, who have paid into their plans for years, because it will negatively affect their bottom line. Those are the death panels that currently exist.

This woman is so selfish, so out of touch, so hateful, so manipulative it is quite literally sickening. Someone needs to get up after everyone of her speeches and refute each of her lies one by one.

Utter nonsense. Would love to have every parent, son or daughter sit down and tell sarah how the "death panels" on insurance companies refused or canceled policies for the sick and dying. Get real woman.

CNN, do your job. When Palin spouts these lies. Can you please call her on it. If she won't give a comment on it and explain it. Then don't run the story. The media is more to blame for her spreading lies then anyone else. The new journalism seems to be print the lie and then explain later. Later is too late for this garbage. There are to many people who believe the lies as soon as they see it posted and never read the truth when it shows up later. What happened to the commitment to truth in the news?

Enjoy the descent into fascism everyone...if history is any indication (and you know it is), it's pretty much irreversible once it's started.

If the bill is repealed I suggest everyone who wants end of life counseling should get it and have the bill sent to Palin. Remember she was all for this type of coverage until it was included in the bill.

I'm not sure if Palin was trying to be funny/literal with the title of her announcement "Lies, Damned Lies", but it works for me.

More people, and the media in particular, need to challenge her on the distortions and outright fabrications of her comments.

Don't blame Sarah Palin for anything that comes out her mouth. Blame the people who listen to her, gives her money that has made her rich and believe her nonsense.
We all know she is a dumb as a door nail, but the people she knows who are dumber; gave her the platform on which to stand. It is also true that the news media, including FOX; made her into an object or arrow to strike the heart of the weak minded. All across America, there are people who are so dumb; it is hard not to laugh when they speak. As long as a great many ignorant people are alive, there is a need for an ignorant leader.

Palin and possiblity other high profile TeaPartiers and Republicans get paid thousands if not millions by the profit driven health insurance corporations to undermine and sway the American public against the benefits of the new health coverage bill. Yet after pocketing their speaking money, they say the bill is to costly to the govt. (tax payers) – but they're making money off it.

Gee another FB post instead of showing up to discuss this with actual reporter and experts. I wonder if she has decided which social media site she will use to run her presidency – Facebook or Twitter? I am guessing Facebook since Twitter will not allow her enough characters for her inauguration/resignation speech.
