Palin jousts with Rouse

(CNN) - Pete Rouse was just installed as White House chief of staff on Friday, but he's already been facing fire from Sarah Palin for over a week.

Now White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is hitting back, calling the former Alaska governor's accusations "fairly silly."

Palin has made clear she's no fan of Rouse - the longtime top Obama aide who has been little seen in the public eye until his elevation to the top White House staff job.

Via several tweets over the last week, Palin highlighted the fact that Rouse - who lived in Alaska during the late 1970s and early 1980s - maintained his voter registration in her state despite not living there for nearly three decades.

"Alaska media slept on the job for how many years re: Obama senior advisor Pete Rouse's claim to be AK resident and 'local' voter? For shame," Palin tweeted earlier in the week.

Palin may be suggesting that Rouse maintained his voter registration and an address in Alaska so he could be a recipient of the state's yearly permanent fund dividend, which is usually worth at least $1,000. But according to local media reports, Rouse's name does not appear on the Alaska Permanent Fund dividend records.

Gibbs said Friday that Rouse has changed his voter registration to Washington, D.C.

But Palin's anger toward Rouse goes deeper than that, tweeting on September 22: "Alaska's Pete Rouse (@ least he claims to be 'Alaska') finally comes out of the shadows; Obama looks to appt him COS;strange doings in the WH."

Palin appears to have been no fan of Rouse for a long time. In her 2009 memoir, she accuses him of being among those in the Obama presidential campaign who allegedly tried to smear her when she was named McCain's vice presidential nominee.

She also accuses him of lifting Obama's "change" slogan from her own gubernatorial campaign in 2006.

"Every part of our campaign shouted 'Change!'" she wrote. "We were amused a couple of years later when Barack Obama, one of whose senior advisers (come to think of it) had roots in Alaska– adopted the same theme," she wrote in reference to Rouse.

This woman continues to be AN IDIOT! One thing you've got to say for Rouse – he does his job, doesn't particulary like the spotlight AND DOES NOT QUIT to be on TV constantly for only one reason – MONEY! The quicker this woman goes away the better.

What the hell? Palin is an idiot. We all know that. What's your excuse, CNN? You have to treat her "Tweets" like news?

He "allegedly" tried to smear her?

Sarah, really, get a grip on reality. I know that's impossible for you since you're a complete wacko, but you're stupidity begged people to make comments against you. And as far as Rouse "stealing" anything from you - you've got nothing worth stealing. If any of that were true and you were "amused" back then, then you can't be angry now.

Unless you're angry that people knew Obama was a good man worthy of the post of president and everyone could guess that you're as dumb as a bag of hair.

This woman is a joke and we should be using space here on serious issues. The cat fighting that goes on all the time with her is just insane. She actually thinks this man maintained a residence in Alaska so that he could get $1000. Is she that petty? this the woman some of you think should be leading our country to the promise land.

who cares? A serious person with mild intelligence is only annoyed by this buffoon. She is a walking, talking, parody of her own inflated image. A loser, a quitter, a political doofus, a science denying moron,........and on top of all that, she's a smug, snarky bitch.

So, to the bottom 15-20 % of the voters out there, wake up, and please, stop supporting this ricoculous shit show. Enough already.

she just doesn't quit her obama bashing. sarah has really been showing her hate for the president no matter if it is good or not. i never heard about sarah until 2008 and she claims obama took her "change" slogan from her campaign. sorry sarah i really do not think the president wants to be like you or has followed you since you were born. the only "change" that you and yours want to make are against the american people's.

  19. No Tea For Me

Palin needs to be medicated. I think she will pick a fight with a dead person if it gets her attention. I wonder if she and her family accepts the $1,000.00 from AK. every year, you betcha she does. Palin does a good job of smearing herself everytime she opens her mouth.

Wow, Sarah, anything to stay relevant, right?

By the way, who is home taking care of your special needs child? I thought the Family Values people insisted children need a father *and* a mother....when did you last see your children, Sarah? Oh, right, when you stopped by the tv studio to see your daughter.

Gee, maybe the networks should give your special needs child its own tv show, that way you would be sure to spend more time with it.

  22. Jimbo (the real one)

Sarah (or her money handlers) realizes that she must continually "create" stories like this in order to keep her name in the public eye and the "money machine" rolling. It is just amazing to me that as a society we find such an ordinary person newsworthy. As I've said before about her..."nice house but nobody's home."

Sarah Palin is claiming credit for "change?" Really? Has any politician in the last 100 years NOT used Change as their message? Nice Sarah.
