Rove to Obama: How dare you

(CNN) - Karl Rove is lashing out at President Obama and the Democratic National Committee over a new ad that alleges the former top Bush aide is “stealing our Democracy.”

"They are tossing out these baseless charges," Rove said Sunday during an appearance on Fox News.

The comments come the same day the DNC announced it is launching a national television ad targeting Rove and another former Bush aide, Ed Gillespie, over their involvement with an issue advocacy group called Crossroads GPS that by law - because it is established as a non-profit - does not have to reveal its donors.

The organization has spent millions airing anti-Democratic ads in key races and faces charges that they are bending campaign finance laws by structuring itself as a tax-exempt "social welfare" 501(c)(4) organization.

The ad also takes aim at the United States Chamber of Commerce, a pro-business lobby that heavily donates to Republican candidates across the country and which Obama and other Democrats have accused of using money from foreign donors -– a charge the chamber has denied.

“Karl Rove, Ed Gillespie: They're Bush Cronies. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce: They're Shills for Big Business,” the ad’s narrator says. “And they're stealing our democracy. Spending millions from secret donors to elect Republicans to do their bidding in Congress. It appears they're even taking secret foreign money to influence our elections.”

The president leveled a similar charge while on the campaign trail last week in Maryland, saying, “Just this week, we learned that one of the largest groups paying for these ads regularly takes in money from foreign corporations.”

The charges were first made by the liberal blog Think Progress, which reported last week that the Chamber has opened up offices abroad that fundraise for the group. But a spokesman for the group said any fundraising done abroad does not fund political activities.

"Have these people no shame?" Rove said of the attacks leveled at him and the Chamber. "Does the president of the United States have such little regard for the office he holds that he goes out there and makes these kind of baseless charges against his political enemies? This is just beyond the pale. How dare the president do this?"

“This is a desperate and I think disturbing trend by the President of the United States to tar his political adversaries with some kind of enemies list, without being unrestrained by any facts or evidence whatsoever."

Appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation, Gillespie also responded to the charges leveled against him and Rove in the new DNC ad.

“Karl Rove and I don't run American Crossroads. We're fully supportive of it. I've helped to raise money for it. I encouraged it to come together because I think we need something like that on the conservative side because there's so much money on the liberal side. You know, $400 million was spent in 2008 to help elect Barack Obama.”

Gillespie went on to address the allegations against the Chamber of Commerce.

"That was based on a blog posting that the President of the United States repeated that was put on a website that's affiliated with Center for American Progress, a liberal nonprofit advocacy group that does not disclose its donors."

Go away, Rove! Crawl back under your rock! The damage you did to America in the last 8 years under Bush will last a generation...at least!

Rove sounds like a big baby who doesn't like it when the Dems give them a taste of there own medicine, Every body know's that the republicans are paid by big business's and are in favor for big business's. This is nothing new, the only problem is its like trying to prove the devil is real. Not saying Republican's are the devil but they are surely motivated by money , its the only reason they could go against things that are so obviously smart and logical choices to make for are country. Anybody who is not sleep walking through life know's this is not old news its just there's nothing you can do about it, I give Obama and all of his people the best of luck and tell Rove that if he was telling the truth e would not be so dramatic , he thinks were all fear based rednecks stuck in the 50's but were not" tell him to watch the show lie to me....lol

They hate to be exposed but if they are going to abuse what little is left of the campaign finance laws then we have a right to know about it.

An eye for an eye, and may be two. That's what the American politics have degenerated to.

Obama and the democrats can only run on scare and fear. They can not run on their accomplishments as there are none.

The Chamber of Commerce has become very politicized. It is no longer a group supporting business people. In every state they try to influence public thinking on policy matters that do not effect the business communities where the Chamber of Commerce is located.

Just try to let them know what the consumers want – it is frustrating to try to do so. Think that it is time to start supporting business growth and get out of the political arena unless it directly involves their membership. They do not poll the membership before speaking out so their opinions come from the officers and not the membership.

The real question is how dare Karl Rove try and buy our government! The sad reality is that many of the rightwing members of the Tea Party and much of the distrust of government have come from the selling of office to business and lobbyist interest. Karl Rove is at the epicenter of this type of government, of, by and for the rich. So why do the Tea Party members, whom claim to be enraged by such forms of government, so willing carry the water for the party that does more to create this plutocratic form of government? Could the masses be working against their stated interest? I certainly think so.

Looks like Rove doesn't like the taste of his own medicine. Atleast obama isn't using 'terror alert levels' to scare the American public...as if that didn't demean the Presidency.

Obama is a liar and so are the democrats who set this up. If anything, they are the ones who take foreign money. This is a disgrace.

The republicans stand for one thing only, the absolute corruption of the US government. Under a republican government, the american people become a resource to exploit to fill the pockets of the republican party and their supporters. The republicans are not above throwing away american lives to amass their wealth as is evidenced by the republican wars the US is fighting. The platform of lower taxes and smaller government servers only the top 10% of the american people. They get the tax cuts and they operate without oversight. Don't punish obama because he didn't clean up the republican mess fast enough, punish the republicans for creating it in the first place.

As long as corp money is allowed...unlimited at that...we no longer have a say in our elections. I don't know about the rest of you...every time an election ad comes on the TV machine, I change the channel. I do my own research. My recommendation. Sign up for Megavote from CSpan. You can keep up on all the votes. See your reps vote and there ya go. If they vote they way you want, send them a thank you email, if they don't, send them an email anyway

I believe all politicians sell democracy. If they didn't our country would be in better shape! Politicians go for the highest bidder! They haven't done anything for me and they still take my money! Let's say steal my money, that's better, legal theft!

I thought all is fair in political wars. That is the way Rove run the affairs when he was a Bush Cronie. Anyone that would tolerate the cowardess comments regarding John Kerry's service in Vietnam has little basis for claiming foul.

No shame?!?!? The Republicans have lied and manipulated the truth so often that I no longer believe a word they say. Bush's lies and secrets were manipulated by this very man. Karl Rove is a professional liar and manipulator. I doubt he even knows what the truth is anymore.

Mark my words. The rich elitest conservatives are polluting the minds of average US citizens with their fear mongering and false retoric. If the republicans and "The White Annoying Teabagggers" take control of the goverment, say goodbye to the middle class. The wealthy will remain aristicrats and the rest of us will be their servants. Do you want fries with that, my lord?
