Obama stumps in Massachusetts
(CNN) - Incumbent Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick received some help Saturday from the most powerful Democrat in the country: President Barack Obama.
"The reason I came today isn't just because Deval has been there for me as a friend, but because he continues to inspire me as a leader at a time when too many folks bow to the politics of the moment," Obama said at a campaign rally for Patrick in Boston. "He represents the politics of conscience and conviction in an age of too much cynicism."
Obama admitted that he's sometimes on his Blackberry backstage when he attends events for candidates, but "when Deval speaks, I listen."
The seemingly hoarse president spoke to the Massachusetts crowd about Patrick's election in 2006 and his own election in 2008, while Patrick tried to conjure up the same memories.
"Three years ago we worked hard to change the guard," Patrick said. "Now we have to work hard to guard the change."
The president was briefly interrupted when a group with banners that read, "keep the promise" and "fight global AIDS" began chanting. Their words were drowned out by the crowd yelling, "Four more years" and "Yes we can."
Obama responded to the disruption saying that if Republicans win in November they will "cut AIDS funding right here in Massachusetts and all across the world."
The president has crisscrossed the country to campaign for Democratic candidates ahead of the November midterm elections. After Saturday's rally, he appeared at a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fundraiser outside Boston. The event, also attended by Massachusetts Democratic Sen. John Kerry and Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse was expected to raise $900,000 for Democratic candidates, according to a pool report.
On Sunday Obama will travel to Ohio with the first lady for several campaign events, including a Democratic National Committee rally at Ohio State University.
Later in the week, the president will travel to Oregon, Washington state, California, Nevada and Minnesota to stump for Democrats.
According to a recent poll, Patrick holds a seven-point advantage over Republican challenger Charlie Baker.

President Obama campaigning for him will help him loose points. One more visit may make it a dead heat.
Actually, President Obama has contributed significantly less to the global AIDS effort than President Bush did. I can't speak to what Congress has earmarked for Mass. though.
I am so glad the president is on task doing his job... what a waste of time. If I took off at my job every time a person needed help getting a job I would be fired. He should be working to make jobs for everyone not just people in hus gang.
Obama rules. I fail to see how he has become the poster child for what ails this country when the damage was done before he arrived in office. I think more needs to be said about how exactly we got here.
We need the Democrats in Congress to rebuild America by bringing job back and keep it INSIDE America. Republicans' outsourcing of American jobs and low tax on cheap imports assassinate our economy badly.
