Graphic anti-abortion ads air on Washington stations
(CNN) - A disturbingly graphic political ad is airing on local stations in Washington D.C. this week - and stations are telling viewers there's nothing they can do to prevent it.
The ad, calling for an end to abortion, apparently shows bloody and dismembered fetuses, and has been airing over the past few days in the nation's capital, including during afternoon and early-evening time slots, when children are likely to be watching.
But according to spokespersons for several of the broadcasters, they are required by law to carry the ads unaltered.

Disgusting, the right has nothing left but scare tactics.
Dems want kids to learn about sex so early, why not teach them EVERYTHING then eh libs? it is disgusting and i wud never want any child i care for to see it, however i also dont want unborn children aborted. good thng i dont live in the cesspool that is D.C.
These ads were disgusting. This candidate has no decency. You can argue against any policy (either on the right or the left) with gruesome pictures or footage, but I believe candidates should have the common sense and decency not to show them to people who just want to watch the news or a TV show.
Funny how no one was "required by law" to run the Man Crunch Super Bowl ad (this was an advert for an internet dating site specifically for gay men). Who says that the right-wing Christian Evangelicals don't run our country? As an ex-pat, I couldn't be more proud that I no longer live in such an oppressed society.

This rethug is just out for shock value. missy smith? Who the heck is she? Talk about looking like a witch. I have yet to see one campaign ad about her. I spoke to Channel 4 about it and was told that the FCC requires for them to show these disgusting commercials.
Funny how the rethugs don't want to pay for the health care of the women who might choose to have an abortion nor their babies after they are born but don't think twice about sending 18 and 19 year olds to their death in unnecessary wars like Iraq.
BTW – I watched the first one now we just fast forward through it.
Abortion is an issue for women only. If you can't become pregnant, what business to you have saying anything about it?
Perhaps we can have an equally offensive: ejaculation tax, as only males impregnate women? Report and pay your tax for each ejaculation, or spend a 9 month sentence in jail, and a life sentence higher tax for future payments you might not report. This tax will be used to support all unmarried, and raped pregnant women and their children. If we force the issue, this is only fair. The MEN did it, that woman did not impregnate herself.
Why are they required to carry these ads at all? Presumably, these are paid ads, not free air time. Ah, I have it... money is speech, says the Supreme Court, and as long as they want to spend the money, you can't limit their speech.
I saw one ad over the weekend for the first time and it left me queasy and stunned. They showed fully-formed babies partially dismembered followed by PICTURES of Nancy Pelosi and Obama. The woman on the ad was running for office and said that she's had TWO abortions even though she was AGAINST abortion (??), but said that Pelosi and Obama were not against it.
TWO ABORTIONS??? And you're blaming the government for YOUR DECISION? The government gives you the RIGHT to choose, but the CHOICE you make is YOUR CHOICE ultimately. No one put a gun to this woman's head....TWICE! Certainly no one in government FORCED her to have an abortion..TWICE.
This was the SICKEST and most IRRESPOSIBLE spin I've ever seen. It beats the Death Panel by miles.
