WH bristles over top Republicans' remarks

(CNN)–The White House is firing back at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell after he told the National Journal that "the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

With his usual sarcastic tone, spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters "maybe Senator McConnell is interested in running for President."

The White House believes that fixing the ailing economy is the single most important thing, so top aides jumped at the chance to paint McConnell's comments as more business as usual, and part of the problem that landed the "car in the ditch."

Gibbs said there will be time in two years for a presidential campaign, but that "members of the Senate are elected and hired by the people of the United States to get stuff done for the people of the United States, not posture and play political games, gum up the system."

Senator McConnell's spokesman Don Stewart told CNN that senators "are not elected to rubber-stamp the President's agenda, particularly when that agenda conflicts with the will of their constituents." Stewart did not back away from McConnell's comments, reiterating that "ending the Obama Administration's liberal agenda as soon as possible is Sen. McConnell's top political priority."

He said the White House is only targeting them in order to avoid focusing on their failed economic policies.

Obama has saved our country from going down the tubes and all without the participation of repub. Thank you. They will go down in history as losers who ran their party into the ground fueled with hate and narrowmindedness, no forsight, no care for our country in general. refusing to help pull up the anchor while captain steers. unamerican..

Vote these infidels out of office, but don't get to happy Republicans......your feet will be held in the fire by your own......dems proved that with ALL branches of government they couldn't get anything done worth anything but spend money, saw that with Bush....the start of the fall of the obama/so called progressive era.........

But, let's call a spade a spade so to speak, Reps it's time to drop out of the "Social Politics" and let the masses decided what's acceptable, Dems your going to have to come to grips that welfare and or illegal immigration(aka criminals) needs to be dealt with, we'll give you a limit welfare to play with but the Illegals, they gotta go, yes I know you want the votes but no sale on this one...or, let us Reps start a war with Mexico

The single most important thing would have been to make sure <0 never got elected–he's an idiot in a whackademic highbrow impersonation. And he's a thinly veiled radical leftist–all things we knew in '08, tried to warn about, but which the MSM utterly refused to report or investigate. <0 is, through incompetence, if not by design, essentially a Manchurian candidate. So it's not really the single most important thing, but the second most important thing to be sure he doesn't manage to obfuscate his way into another term. The third most important thing, yet the one most pressing at the moment is to make <0 a lame duck by throwing out all of his radical leftist and authoritarian cadres and fellow travelers from congress. So we have several important tasks before us–let's stay energized and on point.

McConnell is a Republican hack which doesn't give a rat's behind about conservatism. After all the Tea Party contributed he still hasn't learned that we don't need Bush's third socialism term (though Obama is a radical socialist, bush was socialist lite). McConnell would love to see another Bush type of president G-D forbid which barely offers an alternative to Obama's radical agenda. Listen to Jim Demint for sanity and truth.

Good – the country sure can't afford another term with these clowns in the white house.
In one week we start to correct the very grave mistake of having elected Obama in the first place.

Dems gain control of House and Senate 2006 with unemployment 4.5%, now it's over 9.5%. Why do Dems attack business and drive people out of work. Trickle up poverty.

And if the American people suffer while the Republicans play games, so be it, right? Geez, I thought we had some adults running the country.

That should tell you something. All the problems we face and that is their top priority. That is un-American.

The only way to fix the economy, to fix this country, is to make this pathetic little man a one-termer. Truth hurts. Obama is the worst thing to ever happen to any country.

The Republican Party has no interest in solving the problems of this country. I supported McCain, but even he seems disgusted by what McConnell and the Orange congressman are doing. They are the ones who created the economic mess we are in. I wish they would at least pretend to care about something other than bringing down the President.

People are sick of the Joy Behar's, Barney Frank's and all of the rest yakking their traps endlessly on and on. Let's shut them up once and for all! VOTE OUT ALL LIBERALS! !!!!

Thank you Senator McConnell for telling him the way it is. Obama has refused to listen to anyone other than his equally inept and inexperienced "advisers" for the past year, even the very people who put him in the WH. We can not financially afford to wait for him to come to his senses, so he has to go the way of Carter and he can take his bail-outs, stimulus bills and health-care reforms with him.

Welcome to the "Weakest Link" Show, otherwise known as the Obama Administration. Instead of uniting our country, Obama and his staff have decided to berate their own base, as well as insult Independant voters ( calling those of us who have lost our jobs "too scared to think clearly"): Is it any wonder that the polls show an enthused GOP poised to win at least 52 seats in the House?

Really...and the White House room to talk. How many times over the past 2 years have we heard Obama say that jobs were "priority #1" only to watch him devote all his time and energy on his leftist agenda items – a trillion dollar boondoggle full of political thank-yous, auto union bailouts, mandatory health insurance, the apology tours, cap-and-tax, "town halls" full of hand picked participants, etc., etc., etc.. Gates looks foolish with a capital 'F' for saying that about McConnell!

You feble mined Tea Party made a deal with the devil! And let these greedy idiots use you to get back in power. You should of stay as third party threat you would of had more leverage.

And CNN had to characterize Gibbs as "with his usual sarcastic tone" because why? How does this add to the discussion? Media just can't bear not to incite any news story it can. How about just the facts and leave the incendiary adjectives out? CNN continues to slide into obscurity.

jobs weren't the most important thing on the agenda for the WH. The stimulus bill was full of pork projects (remember Obama promised no pork) Reforming health care was #1 for the WH. They crammed it down voters throats, bribed Senators to vote for it and voted in the middle of the night! Tax cuts for the middle class weren't important. Congress picked up that one right before the recess and voted to adjourn. The oil disaster wasn't important to Obama. He played golf, partied, went on vacations, gave speeches, attended to raise campaign funds for some democrats BEFORE he set up a commission (how pitiful) to look at the oil disaster. This election needs to be a rejection of Obama leadership plain and simple

Let me get this straight, the President of the United States tries to start a race-war between Hispanics and Republicans by telling them Republicans are "the enemy" and McConnell is supposed to just love him to death and want him back for 4 more years of disgracing the office.

They need to find a grown-up in this White House and find them fast. Obama has had 21 months to move from Community Organizer to President and he's failing miserably. Please get someone in there who actually understands the significance of the office and get a press corps that actually cares about the office and let's get this worked out, otherwise his 37 percent approval is going to be the high-point next year.

Yea right! If the economy was such a priority then why did this worthless administration persue ObamaCare for a whole year over working on it!? Obama is the worst President in the history of the U.S.

The path to fix an ailing economy begins with getting Obama out of the Presidency!! Hell you can put in Clinton if you want. This far left liberal President is dividing the nation and creating a nanny state. It is a shame voters gave this guy one term!!!

What's wrong with wanting to kick a president out of office? It's happened many times. For some reason the Democrats think Obama is special and should be "allowed" to serve two terms. He has, with the enormous help of the Democrat Congress sunk us into a debt our children and grandchildren will be paying for, passed a healthcare bill that will raise insurance premiums and will cause healthcare bills to rise, took over private businesses, gave away our sea rights to include the great lakes, called we the people "tea baggers," and promises to bring a "gun" against those who do not agree with his agenda. He is supported by George Soros an anti-capitalist, socialist who has made billions with shady dealings. Can't really say much good about Obama. His youngest daughter is cute, that's about all.
