WH bristles over top Republicans' remarks

(CNN)–The White House is firing back at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell after he told the National Journal that "the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

With his usual sarcastic tone, spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters "maybe Senator McConnell is interested in running for President."

The White House believes that fixing the ailing economy is the single most important thing, so top aides jumped at the chance to paint McConnell's comments as more business as usual, and part of the problem that landed the "car in the ditch."

Gibbs said there will be time in two years for a presidential campaign, but that "members of the Senate are elected and hired by the people of the United States to get stuff done for the people of the United States, not posture and play political games, gum up the system."

Senator McConnell's spokesman Don Stewart told CNN that senators "are not elected to rubber-stamp the President's agenda, particularly when that agenda conflicts with the will of their constituents." Stewart did not back away from McConnell's comments, reiterating that "ending the Obama Administration's liberal agenda as soon as possible is Sen. McConnell's top political priority."

He said the White House is only targeting them in order to avoid focusing on their failed economic policies.

What do you expect from McConnell an intlelligent policy statement. His conduct has demonstrated he is interested in power not the country. His priority has nothing to do with what is best for America. He say repeal and replace health care reform. The usuall empty slogan. Long on words but no plan at all. He is a fraud. He personifies the worst of Ameircna politics

Dean nice try. If the GOP is so innocent and the Dem's were complicit with the Wall Street gone wild meltdown, then why did the GOP fight virtually every single attempt to bring back those same regulations repealed in '99? It's ALWAYS less or no regulations, let the "free" market magically solve all of our problems, remember?

Hey Gibbs, all I can say is thank God for checks and balances in our government. The Obama administration is a runaway train without an engineer and the track is about to run off a cliff...

The 1st mission of the newly elected Republicans, should be to Impeach Obama for his crimes against the USA

LIBERALS: You have reached the blind alley at the end of your path.

If you cannot go get a job and produce a value, why wave your failures in our faces and demand we pay your way? If you cannot produce a value but demand to be supported by those who can, are they not your betters?

Left and Right. This is not doing America any good. Its like the relatives dividing up the estate while the patient is dying. The questions should be what is right about America and how can we improve it?

The White House Bristles???? Did it grow HAIR when the Obamas moved in??

Hey Gibbs, the Congress AND the President work for US and we decide who has the correct program. You, you are just a hired mouth, no one at all. You serve at the WHIM of a man that throws most of his hired help under the bus when he gets tired of them, Get ready.

Gibbs reminds me of the kid who used to get his ass beat everyday for his lunch money. And in reading all these posts by apoplectic libs, it's obvious they are desperate. Who are they going to blame during the next administration. I try to be kind to liberals, because most of the ones I know live solely by emotion. I don't know what they are capable of anymore, they are so imbalanced. And for Tired of the Nonsense, can you even name one instance where your consitiutional rights or any one you might know, were violated during the Bush administration? I hear a lot of accustations, but like most other liberal rhetoric I hear, it's just hot air. Nothing of substance.

Obama has been a huge improvement over his predecessor. He didn't start a fruitless trillion dollar war in Iraq to benefit Bush's Big Oil Patrons. And he didn't start the Great Bush Depression or give tax breaks to billionaires to the detriment of the toiling masses. But McConnell's vote was behind the war and the tax breaks.

If the Republicans take over the house, and the Speaker is no longer Pelosi, but a Republican...he is only an accident away from the President if something should happen to Biden and Obama.....kinda like LBJ?

  11. Um...I have a few questions.

In October 2009, the Socialist Party of America announced that 70 Congressional democrats currently belong to their caucus. There are a total of 255 Democrats in the House of Representatives, so that means 27% of the Democrats in Congress are actual socialists. So here are the questions...how will socialism make the economy better? How will subverting our national sovereignty through alliances between Democrats and organizations like the Party of European Socialists (PES) improve our economy? Why are the MSM not reporting that fact that so many "Democrats" in congress are actually socialists? Why is there no discussion of the links between the Democratic party and the Party of European Socialists (PES)?

What in the world have I stumbled into here? Is this a blog for the dwindling number of hardcore extremist Obama supporters? Have none of you paid any attention to what this organizer-in-chief thug has been doing to the country? Or is it you just don't care? At any rate, it's a hoot to see there are people who still believe Obama is the "one we have been waiting for". Good luck with that. You might want to stay home in a dark closet next Tuesday.

The ridiculous arguments the left brings forth are just manifestations of self projection.
McConnel is a horse face; please look at obama and biden closely.
Obama belives the economy is the first and foremost item on his agenda that's why he spent 18 mos. rahming deathcare.
Now this administration is at war with America and we are bankrupt anyway annie.
If only we can go back to the destructive bush days when unemployment was at 5% and the economy was actually growing mr. laughing boy nonsense.

The major goal of the American people is to make sure Obama is a one term President too. Mrs. Doubtfire (Gibbs) just doesn't get it.

–Obama now promises to make jobs and debt reduction the number one thing on his agenda the next two ears– how about his last number one–closing the Cuban prison and transferring the prisoners to the USA. He doesn't have a clue. Sorry I was a supporter and now a realist –BHO won't fool me again. Would cut short his tenure if I could. He can go write a book "The World According to Obama"

Love the whining Liberal slime in here casting fireballs in any direction possible out of desperation. It's degraded to the "no I'm not, YOU are!" kindergarten playground rants they are most capable of in lieu of governing once elected.

Despite the tantrums, we've give you your chance and you raped us and our future. What's the AA saying....."first step to solving the problem is admitting you HAVE a problem...." well, WE'RE ADMITTING IT!

People knew what Rush meant when he said he wanted to see Obama fail and they know what McConnel meant. The irony is that Gibbs is obviously the one playing politics feigning outrage.

Many of us think Obama is horrible for this country – that a 2 term Obama Presidency will be devastating for us. Therefore the most important things is get rid of him.

I don't "hope" Obama will be successful. I know he won't be because he is ignoring every economic principle we have learned in the last 300 years. We would essentially be hoping for a miracle and I think simply getting rid of him would be far easier and more likely than Obama's policies bringing some sort of economic success.

I just hope that Mitch McConnell's constituents remember that his single most important priority was to make Obama a one-term president rather than legislate when it comes time for his re-election.

Wow, It's hard to believe so many Americans are this ignorant of what the democrats have done to this country. Always blaming the republicans, yet it seems it's just to hard to follow and look for real facts, rather than believing everything they hear on the msm. You can google most things that Obama, Pelosi and Frank have said and they themselves prove the lies they tell you when it comes out of their own mouths. Remain ignorant, dems and see where all that hopey changey gets you. Dumpster diving is in your future..

This economy WILL NOT improve as long as Obama is in office. The Job providers are scared into immobility. JOBS WILL NOT GROW UNTIL OBAMA slithers back to his den of thugs in Chicago.
