(Updated 4:47 p.m. ET with O'Donnell campaign response)
(CNN) – Christine O'Donnell, the surprise Tea Party-backed Senate candidate in Delaware, threatened to sue a local radio station if it did not turn over a videotape of an interview it conducted with her.
O'Donnell's campaign later apologized to the station for the threat, WDEL reports.
O'Donnell appeared on WDEL's "The Rick Jensen Show" Tuesday, during which she fielded several questions from listeners and the host. Upon the conclusion of the interview, an O'Donnell aide demanded video of the interview be turned over to the campaign and destroyed because such videotaping had not been previously approved.
It was then, according to WDEL, that O'Donnell herself threatened to sue the station if it did not comply with the request. WDEL also says it later fielded a phone call from O'Donnell campaign manager Matt Moran, who threatened to "crush" the station with a lawsuit if it did not agree to turn over the tape.
WDEL's attorney was soon involved and told the campaign there was nothing illegal about videotaping the interview for later use on the station's website and added that such action is protected by the First Amendment.
Upon further investigation, WDEL says O'Donnell's attorney called the station to apologize for the uproar and threat of litigation.
Doug Sachtleben, O'Donnell's campaign spokesman responded Wednesday.
"Prior to the WDEL interview, we asked the show's host if the video camera would be in use," Sachtleben said in an email. "The host never gave a straight answer and due to the constraints of live radio, the interview began without the campaign getting a straight answer or granting permission for the use of the camera. That's what we talked about after the interview."
Nobody sticking up for her? Come on!
why threaten to sue – she could have just cast a spell
Plan B was to put a spell on them.
She needs a shrink and a copy of the U.S. Constitution with her at all times!
Wow, all this and she is supposed to be an 'expert' on the Constitution.
Add to that the fact that the first resort was to bully the station. How small-minded is that? To threaten a lawsuit, then say that they would 'crush' the station ?? Makes you wonder how these people would fare in Congress. It doesnt sound like they are capable of bipartisianship, or even of listening to anyone else's opinion with an objective ear. Isnt that the very definition of fundamentalism? Is the Tea party the new American Taliban?
ROTHLMAO!!!!!! Dang, what was she doing on the video – Rituals?? (Oh, that's not right – Wait a minute, it is RIGHT, far-RIGHT and not going anywhere.)
The only good thing about O'Donnell losing is the fact that she will GO AWAY after the election is over!!! CNN, there is NO NEED to drag her into the future trying to SUGGEST that she is qualified to be President – LIKE the PA'IN n the NECK!!!
DEmocrats in DE – Great job in keeping the extreme RIGHT from the finish line. BUT, YOU MUST VOTE!!!!!
This is T'SAH and I approve this message!
Teabagging Nuts Gone Wild...courtesy of dimwit Sarah a$$ Palin:
Joe Miller thugs are arresting journalist
Rand Paul activitist caught stomping on a woman's head
Christine O'donnell threatening a radio station to deny them of their first amendment rights and free speech
Carl Paladino sending offensive "psychiatric disorder" text msgs
Sharon Angle calling "Latino's" Asians and asking them NOT to VOTE to deny Americans of their constitutional rights!
Welcome to the new United States of Teabaggers...with these folks elected into public office, Iran and North Korea will look like paradise on earth!
Why are T-Party candidates soooo unstable? Did they all drink from the same Kool Aid?
What? That pesky FIrst Amendment AGAIN? Do you expect me to have time to read it and run for Congress at the same time?
Interesting how the anti-trial lawyer republicans are always quick to call them if they want to sue about something.
May be they station filmed her in a phone booth putting on her witch at and flew away with her broom
And here I thought the Republicans were aginst all these frivilous lawsuits....aren't they the ones who always say the trial lawyers are screwing up the country?
Ahhhh.....but when it is THEY who wish to sue – then it's all a different story.....the story called HYPOCRISY!
Of course, who can blame poor little Christine? She doesn't even know what the Frist Ammendment says – much less what it means!
Can't wait until the wingnuts take over Congress.....it'll be the biggest laugh of the century!!! And then, Obama will be a sure bet for 2012. And they can't even see it coming!
As a woman, she's an embarrassment to me, but as a person, I'm starting to feel embarrassed for her.
tryin to pull a nixon and burn the tapes eh?
What a waste of air she is.
She wants the videotape back because there was a mirror in the studio and the tape revealled that she casts no reflection. O'Donnell promised to put a witchcraft curse on the station if the tape wasn't destroyed.
What a clown. And this is what Republicans want in office - complete idiots whose only "qualification" is a simpleminded version of religion. This country is truly doomed if Republicans ever get control of it again. They are the worst our nation has to offer, and they're dumbing down our society so much that we'll be the laughing stock of the planet. What Islam did for the middle east, Evangelical Christianity will do for the U.S.
I'm surprised she didn't get her strong arm goons to stomp on their head, a la Joe Miller......
What a Sarah
Frickin Wackadoo. She's so far around the bend she can't see the curve in the road!
Once again, O'Donnell has no idea how the law works. And this is what some people want in the Congress of the United States of America? A person with no knowledge or understanding of the Constitution and little understanding of law in general. What is wrong with you people? Are you putting this person on the ballot out of spite? Certainly there are better qualified Republicans in Delaware than O'Donnell. Can you imagine her in Congress?–"Could ya explain how that 1st Amendment thing works before we discuss this legislation? Are you sure that's an ammendment....in the United States?" Unfortunately, stupidity isn't against the law. The voters better decide– vote for the stupidity of O'Donnell or vote for her opponent...a person who tried to explain the 1st Ammendment to her. I'm not from Delaware and I am an Independent.
most of the canidates and incumbents have reach the lows of well manure, but in today's america bad behavior is rewarded by corporate and the public, spitzer has spot on cnn, vitter leading, palin heading the gop, and this o'donnell person, the list doesn't stop there
Poor thing. She has taken a beating, but i sense that she is in denial about her abilities as "politically stalwart" enough for the position she is seeking. Of course, it ain't over for her yet in this election, but should be. Her naivete has her convinced that she is potentially a Great Leader. She seems to be nice enough and convinced that she can do good. Wrong venue for being a sweetheart. However, she does have potential for greater gain, like Sarah Palin. She can roam around making millions as a revival All-Star. That's what Sarah does. She puts on some lipstick, fuses together some words that are not cogent, not solutions to our problems or plans for a way forward, but gets mighty cheers and money. Something to think about, Christine.
The younger, dumber version of Sarah Palin is obviously still confused about the First Amendment.
her an expert on the Constitution ? what's wrong with ya 🙂 she is a disaster and went to the same school as Sarah, Disaster University
She would have been smart not even to respond to all of those segments of her Maher had on his show. The guy is a moron most of the country knows that, but she stepped right into it unfortunately.
