Democrats seek to capitalize on 'Rally to Restore Sanity'

(CNN) – Jon Stewart has called his upcoming 'Rally to Restore Sanity' a "call-to-reasonableness," but the Democratic National Committee is hoping it's a call to Democrats as well.

When 'Daily Show' fans descend on our nation's capitol on Saturday, the DNC will hold a get-out-the-vote phone bank at its national headquarters, and they're inviting rally attendees to stop by to man the phones.

"We need folks to turn the energy from that rally into action by contacting key voters across the country and making sure they have a plan to vote by November 2nd," the DNC said in an invitation that went out to Organizing for America (OFA) supporters in the Washington area. OFA is the President Obama's campaign arm that is now housed within the DNC.

With just a few days left before Election Day, the DNC hopes the rally - which is expected to draw tens of thousands of (mostly young) Americans to Washington - helps energize voters in a tough national climate for Democrats.

OFA staff will also be at Union Station to help those coming in on buses for the rally sign up to volunteer for get-out-the-vote efforts in their home states, said OFA Press Secretary Lynda Tran.

I've been part of a phone bank for two weeks now, making real phone calls (not robocalls) at reasonable hours (not 1am!!) to registered Democrats. The response has been very positive. This rally on Saturday for many of us will be a celebration of our efforts. Hope to see you there.
    Save our country. Vote Democrat.

I thought this rally wasn't suppose to be partisan according to Stewart. Its sounding more and more like the Democratic hope with Obama being on Stewart's show a couple of days before this thing goes off.

Ok, then any money spent at this rally should be counted as a campaign contribution to the DNC. This only proves the intimate relationship between the entertainment industry and the Dems. None of them live reality....

As a former reporter, I always wince when I see articles that talk about folks "manning the phones," which we learned in graduate J-School to never use because it can be viewed as a derogatory, sexist term. I believe many capable women "staff" telephones too.

So if we're going to have a return to sanity in government, does that mean all the republicans will now be sequestered in rubber rooms and padded cells?

Rick McDaniel – Are Democrats ALWAYS right about ANY issue? Of course not. Then are Republicans or Independents ALWAYS right about ANY issue? Also, of course not.
Be part of a political group/affiliation doesn't grants anyone with 'supreme wisdom' or whatever.
Problem is that while Democrats and Independents (some of them) at least brings PROPOSITIONS. lately the Republicans have brought nothing but smears, debunked lies. hot air and 'NO!!!' to whatever plan proposed by 'the Others'...
ONE reasonable, with factual data (not fabricated one) to back it up please, that the GOP had came up with the ast 2 years? That numberless 'alternative' to the health care bill obviously doesn't count.
    Just ONE.

Well – it will WORK because the Political World went CRAZY and ROWDY the past year and half and it involved the RepubliCAN'Ts and the Tea Party.

The rally itself is non-partisan but the Daily Show can't do anything if a political party wants to have a booth outside their headquarters. The GOP could do the same thing. I don't think they see this as quite an opportunity though.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. The rethugs and the teabaggers (imbeciles that they are wanting their country back) have been having fights for the last two years.
As a Democrat I am happy with our President. The country has not gone anywhere and I am glad that President Obama is doing some of what he told us he was gonig to do in spite of the constant bumps on the road by the rethugs.
This rally will prove that 80% of the population (not that everyone will be able to attend) are not blinded by the right wing nuts and/or their half term governor leader. BTW – I don't agree with Rove but at last somebody with those "cojones" to tell what's her face off.

The reason why Democrats can capitalize on The Rally to Restore Sanity is because the GObP/GOtP is insane, on top of that they have pushed out all of the moderates. Those are the sane people of any party.

    Oh and on more thing

*SOCIALISM* is defined as a political theory or system in which the means of production and distribution are controlled by the people and operated according to equity and fairness rather than market principles.
IT'S ALREADY IN OUR SOCIETY TO ONE DEGREE OR ANOTHER! WE ARE NOT IN A MOVEMENT TOWARDS COMPLETE SOCIALISM! OBAMA IS NOT A SOCIALIST!

AND FOX ISN'T NEWS!!! neither are polls and Palin....these things are not news

Stewart is just another tool, doing whatever he's told to do. I'm so tired of the "sheep" on both sides. I can't wait for the elections to be over, so that all politicians can go back to doing absolutely nothing for the citizens of the United States.

stewart grilled his ass and obama held his own. this was one of the few times that a democrat (whom we elected by a majority mind you) has stood up for his accomplishments. they kind of did what we wanted them to folks, it just got diluted because of politics. but politics is how you get things done in this day. he went and gave an example of how democrats should have been campaigning all along. appeal to your base instead of the tea party.

    @Rick McDaniel

Please, explain to me in your own words what "socialism" and "liberal" mean. I know what they mean, but I want to make sure you really know what they mean. When you make such comments such as the one above you are basically saying, "I' dont know what socialism is." So show us that you either know what these terms mean and are not just an ingnoramous popping off at the mouth.

Mostly young at the rally? There are a lot of us forty-somethings going. I'm also organizing the sattelite rally in my home town though I am going to DC. This is going to awesome in the truest sense of the word. Enthusiasm gap my backside!
