Palin’s Twitter controversy

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin caused a bit of a stir Thursday when a tweet from conservative commentator Ann Coulter appeared on a list of her account’s favorite tweets.

The tweet showed a picture of a sign outside “The Blood of Jesus ATLAH World Missionary Church” in New York. The sign read: “The blood of Jesus against Obama history made 4 Nov 2008 a Taliban Muslim illegally elected president USA:Hussein.”

The tweet has since been removed from Palin’s Twitter account.

Coulter originally re-tweeted the item from the account of liberal commentator Marc Lamont Hill. The two often appear on television together.

After the Palin camp was reached for comment, it referred CNN to a statement given to ABC’s Jake Tapper.

“I've never purposefully ‘favorited’ any tweet. I had to go back to my BlackBerry to even see if such a function was possible. I was traveling to Alaska that was an obvious accidental ‘favoriting,’ but no one can mistake that Ann Coulter was obviously being tongue in cheek with that tweet,” Palin said in the statement. “Shall I correct this with whichever wonderful media outlet ran with this (an obviously bored reporter...since there must be nothing going on in the world today, like, um, ramifications of a shake up of power in the U.S. House of Representatives?).”

Lamont Hill appeared on CNN’s AC360 Thursday and said the original tweet was a joke directed toward Ann Coulter because of their impression of the church’s pastor, James Manning.

“We make jokes about Pastor Manning,” Hill told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “I took a picture and sent it to her because the sign was obviously absurd.”

Palin has used her Facebook and Twitter accounts throughout the midterm election season to endorse and promote candidates across the country.

I have accidentally favored numerous tweets from my phone, it is very easy to do. Like her or not, no way of really knowing for sure... that being said... isn't there more important things to worry about right now? Jobs? Healthcare? Stock Market? Terrorism? anything??.....

The woman is a pathological liar. Even when she's caught being racist, bigoted, and untruthful, she just lies some more.

I continue to be disgusted with the behaviors of this woman. For someone who is always crying out foul play on just about everything, she seems to be really, really cruel. It makes it really hard to like her.

Palin, are you serious? Thats why you are not vice president now, you arent good at lying. Much as you tweet how could you not notice the "star" symbol. Her run for president is over before it even started.

Palin, Coulter and all those groupies are idiots-what else can you expect from a tweet who stated she could see Russia from her back porch, ice berg or whatever is in her back yard....

I don't know why she backtracks on something like this. The 75% of the population that know she's a dangerous nitwit won't be buying her story about accidentally pressing a button. Her mindless followers love her even more when she is crass, potty-mouthed and racist.

As usual the liberal media makes a mountain out of not even a mole hill. It is magic.... how to take nothing and try to make bull poop out of it. If they could eventually succeed, just think of the green energy gases that could be produced... it would be a miracle. It would solve all our energy problems.

    Why does the media keep
following this woman? She gives no interviews outside of Fox so the "mainstream" media can only report on her "Tweets". Ridiculous.

I wouldn't explain to the morons Sarah. I t was a very correct statement. Someday soo all of America will get it. Even the Bros to OBAMA>

Good Grief, the lame stream media hates this woman. Its getting tiring. This is the reason why 80% of Americans no longer trust our media. From the first day John McCain introduced Gov. Palin introduced our media has done every thing to destroy her.

These "tongue in cheek" tweets by these radical rightwing fear-mongerers are never accidental.

Coulter, Palin and all the other hate-filled, self-righteous, Christians-in-name-only types know exactly what they're doing when they spew their nonsense.

They are continually stirring the pot of hatred towards our President, relying on the fear and stupidity of their base to keep them in power.

What a pathetic bunch of jerks the Republican Party has become!

They didn't win in the midterms on ideas – because they have none. They won on fear, hatred, division and lies.

Ann culture and plain ain't those two twits two pea in a pad. Palin is the more dim witted racist but Ann culture is the more scary racist she looks like some of those lynchers that will would have a cup of coffee under the ..... Tree she just lynched and the fact of matter is America would nominate any one of these Nim wits to be president over Obama.

Palin lies. She was passing this around a month ago, and not as 'tongue in cheek.' She was cheering Coulter's choice of a church. Is this really the woman people want to consider as a viable candidate for President? Come on people, she knows nothing but how to rile people up...she is no leader except in the sense that David Dukes isn s leader.

ms. Palin did something "by mistake" because she didn't know what she was doing? What a shock. Doesn't that lame excuse sum up her entire career?

like, um, ramifications of a shake up of power in the U.S. House of Representatives
Which would pale incomparison to the ramifications that would be felt if your irresposible, hate-bating should bring harm to the President.

Tongue in cheek? That kind of right-wing garbage isn't funny or ironic or however else Ms Palin wants to characterize it. It refects a very dangerous attitude that too many on the right hold towards this president. I agree with her on one though – I wish the press would stop reporting her every move. She doesn't reflect anything good about this country.
