Reid asks Bennet to take over DSCC

Washington (CNN) - Two senior Democratic sources tell CNN Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has discussed with Colorado Senator Michael Bennet the possibility of taking over the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

The two talked this week, the sources said, but there was no resolution to the conversation.

"The ask has been made, and Michael has been thinking about it," said one of the Democratic sources.

These sources say it's unlikely Bennet will take the job. He just won a brutal battle to keep is Senate seat.

The DSCC is in charge of getting Democratic Senate candidates elected, and Democrats will have to defend 23 incumbent Senate seats in the 2012 election cycle, a daunting task.

I recommend Sen. Gillibrand for the job.

Who knows what will happen in the next 2 years. Despite the skillful GOP marketing machine, President Obama and Democratic leaders have made progress with the economy but he doesn't walk on water. In only 2 years, we went from losing 600,000+ private sector jobs per month to creating more than 60,000 private sector jobs per month. People who are still unemployed will not appreciate the lack of support from the GOP for extending benefits during this recovery and the improvement in the economy will help Democratic candidates in 2012. Why would voters want to return to disastrous GOP policies?

I am distrustful of a machine that is designed to Elect Just Dems or Rebup, I would like to see substance. Not me vs you before we even get to the problems at hand.

Hey T'sah – How about giving us all a break from your Out of Campaign mode BS since your cheerleader efforts did not produce, you sound like some kind of Obamabot stuck on rewind...If we are moving forward as a Nation perhaps you may want to tell the 13 million people still unemployed.

Corporate Democrats and Republicans are one in the same. The Democratic House and Senate leaders need to out these people and eliminate their jobs ASAP.

@MonsterZero I would like to tell the 13 million people still unemployed that the steep climb in the unemployment rate began during the final years of the Bush Administration but, in less than 2 years, private sector job growth has begun to improve. No, Obama is not a magician but business is improving. If Republicans will lose the notion that huge tax cuts for the rich (never paid for in their budgets) do not trickle down, we may even recover from 8 years of economic insanity. Let's see those spending cuts they keep talking about but never deliver!

Michael Bennet as head of the DSCC. What a joke! I am a registered Colorado Democrat. This guy was barely able to hold on to his Senate seat against a weak GOP opponent. He has the charisma of a dry paper towel. The fact that Reid would offer this critical post to a guy like Bennet just proves what a disaster he continues to be as Majority Leader. He is an idiot. Maybe after our party is in the Senate minority after 2012, the Senate Democrats will pick a new leader. Better late than never.
