Could Palin beat Obama?

(CNN) - In a yet to be aired interview, Sarah Palin said she believes it would be possible for her to beat President Obama if she ran for President.

During an interview for an upcoming Barbara Walters special, Palin said "I believe so," when Walters asked Palin "If you ran for president, could you beat Barack Obama?"

"I'm looking at the lay of the land now, and ... trying to figure that out, if it's a good thing for the country, for the discourse, for my family, if it's a good thing," Palin said.

Palin appears to be inching the ball ever slightly toward acknowledging she is seriously thinking about running for president next year.

In a lengthy interview for a profile in this weekend's New York Times magazine, the former Alaska governor flatly said she is considering launching a White House bid and is currently in discussions about the possibility with her family and trusted allies.

"I'm engaged in the internal deliberations candidly, and having that discussion with my family, because my family is the most important consideration here," she said in the interview with journalist Robert Draper, now posted on the New York Times Web site.

Palin - who currently operates with only a handful aides, most of whom have little experience running a national campaign – also said she might need to bring more strategists into her fold to help communicate her record.

"'I'd have to bring in more people - more people who are trustworthy. I know that a hurdle I would have to cross, that some other potential candidates wouldn't have to cross right out of the chute, is proving my record," she said. "That's the most frustrating thing for me – the warped and perverted description of my record and what I've accomplished over the last two decades."

But Palin, who famously clashed with some of Sen. John McCain's top aides when she was the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, made clear it won't be easy for political strategists to step foot in Palin's world:

"What Todd and I learned was that the view inside the bus was much better than underneath it, and we knew we got thrown under it by certain aides who weren't principled," she said, adding "the experience taught us, yes, to be on guard and be very discerning about who we can and can't trust in the political arena."

Palin, as has long been the case, also directed fire toward members of the media for distorting her record – a challenge, she said, that must be overcome if she runs for president.

"Other candidates haven't faced these criticisms the way I have," she said. "I'm on television nearly every single day with reporters ... Now granted, that's mainly through my job at Fox News, and I'm very proud to be associated with them, but I'm not avoiding anything or anybody. I'm on Facebook and Twitter. I'm out there. I want to talk about my record, though."

Palin added that she "fears for our democracy" given the state of the news media, saying sarcastically of news organizations: "They're the elite…they know much more than I know and other people like me!"

As a conservative who wishes to see Obama leave the White House in 2012, please Sarah, don't run. The independent voters will grudgingly back Obama again if Palin runs. We need to add a Republican President and Senate to the coming House to undo the nonsense that's been done in the last 4 years and, especially, the last 2.

Palin as President? What would that be like? Would other countries test our resolve? Not likely, if our Commander in Chief were the lady, who can drop a bear fearlessly with a rifle, she would restore meaning to the word deterrent. "Have most powerful volunteer force on the planet, will defend the greatest nation on the planet." Don't provoke or bully, but never ever cower.
She would upend the political world with long lost courage to stand for the founding principles, no acquiescing to appease some phantom requirement to be 'politically' correct.
Rogue? Maybe in the sense that being unashamed of defending individual liberties, believing the US, as founded, is the greatest nation ever formed by man and being unrepentant when it comes to calling it like you see it.
A few years ago, before Palin came on the scene, media folks every where would have called such a politician a breath of fresh air, but apparently that was only while they thought such was impossible to locate. Now, anyone close to meeting that description is bashed and mocked by most media organizations. What changed? Palin is what she claims to be, as are most of the Tea Party candidates. As long as any candidate could claim to be those things and no one lived up to them, they could back those ideals because fake conservatives are no threat their power grabbing agenda. However, the real deal is a profound threat to their power. If the people can really have leaders that will adhere to the Constitution and that do not think themselves to be or seek to be above the average citizen, why would they ever want leaders who behave as elitists and exercise dominance over them? Hence the threat to the elitist power seeking liberals and their media allies.
I hope Sarah, or one just like her, does run in 2012. We need a simple honest individual that understands, respects and will defend at all costs the Constitution of the US and the coveted liberties it affords it citizens.

I guess this means we all get the joy of dealing with this idiot for another 2 years until she ruins things for the Republicans again? She is the best thing for Obama!

I think we should elect Palin president of the USA. It would scare the cr*p out of our enemies that we would put somebody so unstable and insane in the White House.

After seeing the MTV website this morning about how the number to vote for Brandi was not working but the one for Sarah's daughter was working, I think Sarah's problems start with she is willing to risk it all to make the news even if cheating is involved. She would make a great politician but then she would just quit when it gets hard.

She wouldn't be my first choice but she would definitely be much, much better than the incompetent loser that we have now.

Sarah, Sarah, even though you're the Democrat dream, you need to stay home and educate your children. Who taught Willow how to use language like that? Are we going to have another baby bump daughter when you run in 2012?

I hope she runs. Because if there's one person people are more sick of than Obama, it's Palin. She has shown she cannot even govern her own state let alone 49 more. The idea of this woman having more responsibility than repeating Alaska themed catchphrases is absurd.

"That's the most frustrating thing for me – the warped and perverted description of my record and what I've accomplished over the last two decades."

ok...and NOWHERE in the article or anything she says/does indicates what she has done or ANY ideas she has. Proving her record? She is very incompetant and inarticulate. She is NOT presidential and not worldly in the slightest. She is no more qualified to run the county than Big Bird, who has an equal fan base and ironically of the same age group.

Please don't run for President Sarah. Your stupid followers who actually think you are in it for the good of the American people will take votes away from Republicans who are qualified for the highest job in the land. You can't quit being the President when the tough gets going Sarah. You can't spend all your time chastising the media for catching you picking your nose and heaven only knows what else you are up to. Please just stay home and fish for your supper and try being a Mother to your children instead of only using them for picture ops. When you are on the news and have your baby in your arms he looks at you like he has never seen you before. Try spending real time with him so he isn't so shocked when you whip him out for the photgs.

Here’s what she's accomplished over the last two decades:

    – Quit her job as governor because when the going gets tough, Sarah Splits (from her sworn oath).

    – Was/is an absentee mother: one teenage daughter pregnant out of wedlock, one abandoned special-needs son, because when the going gets tough, Sarah Splits (from the hard work of being an involved parent).

    – Spread lies about the Bridge to Nowhere, "death panels," whether or not she reads a newspaper on a regular basis, and just about everything else of substance, because when the going gets tough, Sarah Splits (from the truth).

    – Use her religious faith as an excuse for all her bad behavior, because when the going gets tough, Sarah Splits (from accountability).

    – Be grossly uninformed, about everything from the responsibilities of the Vice President to foreign policy to where "real America" is (hint: it's our WHOLE country), because when the going gets tough, Sarah Splits (from the bothersome task of reading, learning and opening her mind).

Sarah Splits: On anything and everything except her own egocentric, money-grubbing, narcissistic ambition.
