Liberal group uses Obama's words against him

Washington (CNN) - A very vocal liberal critic of the White House says it is putting out a second television ad slamming President Barack Obama for caving in on the tax cut deal he made with congressional Republicans.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee announced Thursday that its going up with an ad that uses then-candidate Barack Obama's words from two and a half years ago against the president for now striking a deal that would extend Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

The PCCC, in an e-mail Thursday to supporters, said "President Obama did not force a single Republican in Congress to feel political pain back home for being on the wrong side of the tax cuts issue. And now he's asking us to accept a raw deal."

The ad, which the PCCC says will run on national cable TV in the nation's capital and on broadcast and cable TV in the Indianapolis and Evansville markets in Indiana, comes as many congressional Democrats are fighting back against the deal, which also allows for unemployment benefits for the long-term unemployed to continue for another year.

Like their first ad, the new PCCC commercial uses a clip from the 2008 presidential campaign, from then-Sen. Barack Obama speaking on April 22nd of that year in Indiana (which is why the ad's running in Indiana).

While he was battling then-Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination at the time, in his speech, Obama attacked Sen. John McCain, who at the time was the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

"So he's promising four more years of tax cuts for CEO's. Tax cuts that he once voted against because he said they offended his conscience. Well they may have stopped offending John McCain's conscience somewhere along the road to the White House. But George Bush's economic policies still offend my conscience and they still offend yours," says Obama, in the speech.

At the start of the commercial, as the president speaks, the words "Obama promised change" appear in the ad, which ends with the words "If Obama won't fight for his promise, Congress needs to."

The PCCC e-mail to what it says are 675,000 supporters also asks for financial donations to allow the group to continue running the new commercial into next week.

Obama narrowly won Indiana, the first Democrat to carry the state in a presidential election in more than four decades. But in last months' midterm elections, the GOP won back an open Senate seat held by the Democrats and captured two House seats held by the Democrats.

We keep hearing from the ultra-radicals from left and right telling us what all is wrong but they never even attempt to come up with solutions only problems. Exercising common sense is a concept completely foriegn to both.

Unfortunately the President – showed his hand- to the Republicans early on with his naive belief that they would somehow co-operate.. The Republicans said openly that their # 1 goal is to " make him a -one term President- and they on on track to just that.

I am afraid that we have another Jimmy Carter situation, smart guy, NO Balls, pardon the term!
So much for all of the rhetoric during the campaign ...

why aren't the wealthy coming out in droves to defend President Obama on keeping their tax cuts? Don't hold your breath on it. That would be like expecting FoxNews or Sarah Palin to either do a postive story on him or post something nice about him on her FaceBook page. Sorry Mr. President even though you did something that they LIKE, they are STILL all against you.

    2. Liberals consist of less than 20% in number in this nation.....Conservatives mor than double that w/40 plus %.
    3. Liberals know they will never have another opportunity as they did w/their buddy Obambi
    4. It is da ja voo with the Liberals....IE: Clinton

Bottom line: to coin a phrase by Obambi: 'there was an election and we won and your side lost".....You LIbs just need to GET OVER IT!

It is simple – Obama repeatedly promised not to extend rich tax breaks. He broke his promise. After all the blah blah blah – broken promise.

Kept tax breaks, no action overturning DADT, kept Guantanamo, kept assassination squads, ..... what was the Big Change again?

I might contribute just to these liberal idiots bring down the master deceiver. I am sure the words Obozo used so freely to knock McCain and the Republicans sent a twinge up and down Chris Matthews leg and made all the dope addicted, welfare frauds in this country his people, but then comes the reality of actually governing. This is what happens when a pretty face using pretty words runs smack dab in to the real world. Keep going demcorats, help us make sure this inept, incompetent, lying, corrupt, union toady is a one term president.

Give it a break and stop the class warfare. Would you rather the majority of Americans are hurt just to spite a few. We will always have different economic groups just give it a rest.

From Day One, the Republican Party of Genocide has had one single agenda and one alone – that is the failure of the President.
Liberal Groups understand this, or should have already understood this.
The rest of the world understands that the Republicans stand for nothing except failing while in power and attacking while they are not.

Politics is about facing reality AND adjusting.
Perhaps had the Democrats, as a whole, acted a lot sooner on this issue that was fast approaching, their backs wouldn't have been up against the eleventh-hour wall.
As such, the Democraps have issues staying on the same page, finding their UNIFIED voice, acting on issues, and communicating same to the electorate.
Look, I too wanted to fight the Rethugs even if that meant having my taxes go up and the unemployed go without at Christmastime (May God forgive me AND the RethugliKKKLans), so thank God for the President. The man had to re-evaluate his position on this subject based on CURRENT conditions and all that was at stake with the Rethugs obstruction.
He made a TOUGH decision that he admitted was against his purist sentiments, but ultimately he was there to benefit the nation NOT empty, and useless posturing.
He's not the first politician to have to adjust; stop measuring him by a different yardstick.

When the GOP held the unemployed hostage, Obama had no choice but to extend the Bush tax cuts, If he had stuck to his guns we would be talking about how he let the unemployed down.

They should've voted and been very stern about getting everyone they knew to vote. He did his job by telling us to vote and we didn't do it. So take or leave it. I'm so sick of everyone thinking this man can do all things by himself. I finally understand what my Dad was trying to tell me when I was younger about the people whom control everything. They have always set things up so we the poor can fail and continue to fail. That's why Palin and all the others in Fox and the whole Republican party won't allow the President to do anything. If it helps the people on the bottom it's inhumane to them.

It's time for barry to go. He has lied too many times. My grandson can negotiate for new toys better than this failure. Now the white house and summers has adopted the repub terrorist strategy of selling FEAR about economic doom to get barry's way. Since the architect of the economic failure is on his way out why would anyone in their right mind listen to this guy anyway. Obama is out in 2012 and we will have a new candidate.

I support the President. However, unlike many, I already knew that he had a tough, seemingly impossible hill to climb in putting forth his agenda while standing up to the Republican Party of Genocide; whose only policy was to do all that they could to obstruct and cause President Obama’s downfall. I will continue to support the President, because I know that he will need to keep working hard to appease as best he can the GOP interests of supporting white millionaires and stepping on the throats of middle class America – even the throats of poor Whites who believed the Republican racial and religious bigoted rhetoric of the last presidential election cycle.

The rest of the world continues to hate Republicans in 2010.

I wonder how long before the liberal left begins to attack Obama's citizenship...Seeing as the original citizenship question was raised by Philadelphia Democrat Phil Berg supporting Hillary Clinton's primary run I always find it humorous to read the tard posts blasting the GOP and Tea Party conspirators...kind of like blaming two wars on the GOP when the Congress passed the declaration of war (both sides) and T'Sah from Virginia, it would be nice for you to understand and investigate the difference between a certificate of live birth issued in Hawaii and a certified birth certificate. The State of Hawaii issued live birth certificates to children born outside of the United States to parents of American citizenry, but alas the legal complexity and subjective use of our laws is now the cancer that eats us all from the inside out. peace

Sometimes Collateral damage is necessary to achieve the end goal. Obama have to stand strong and accept his leadership with the realization that you can't just keep putting a bandage on the same cut that clearly need stitches. It they want to let unemployment benefit expire, so be it. Fight the good fight for the long term result. Kick butt and take no prisoners. Democrats are weak and republicans are spoiled selfish trolls who would auction off their mother, wives and children for a penny on a dollar.

How about running it on Gitmo. Or enhanced interogation methods. Or uniting the country and forgetting about red and blue states. Or about reducing the cost of healthcare. And on, and on, and on.
