Palin warns of new 'death panels'

(CNN) - "Death Panels" could be back, Sarah Palin says. But this time they are not the creation of the Obama administration. No, these are the handiwork of the bipartisan debt commission.

In an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, the former Alaska governor takes aim at several of the controversial commission's recommendations, saying the cuts it proposes "implicitly endorses the use of 'death panel'-like rationing."

Palin highlights the commission's proposal for an Independent Payments Advisory Board, a committee, she says, that will make "bureaucrats, not medical professionals, the ultimate arbiters of what types of treatment will (and especially will not) be reimbursed under Medicare."

The former Alaska governor also takes aim at the commission for advocating cuts in defense, an area that Palin says should be off-limits.

"Among the few areas of spending it does single out for cuts is defense - the one area where we shouldn't be cutting corners at a time of war," she writes. "Worst of all, the commission's proposals institutionalize the current administration's new big spending commitments."

Ultimately Palin, who appears to be beefing up both her economic and foreign policy credentials of late, hitches her wagon to GOP Congressman and budget guru Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.

"In my view, a better plan is the Roadmap for America's Future produced by Rep. Paul Ryan. The Roadmap offers a reliable path to long-term solvency for our entitlement programs, and it does so by encouraging personal responsibility and independence."

Ryan, the Republicans go-to voice in the House on all things budget, would make for a key ally for Palin should she seek to further increase her own credibility on what is likely to be the No. 1 issue for Americans in the two years leading up to the 2012 presidential election.

"We must turn around before it's too late, and [Ryan's] roadmap offers a clear plan for doing so," Palin hales. "But it does more than just fend off disaster. CBO calculations show that the Roadmap would also help create a "much more favorable macroeconomic outlook" for the next half-century. The CBO estimates that under the Roadmap, by 2058 per-person GDP would be around 70 percent higher than the current trend."

Sarah has obviously not hear the news on Jan Brewer, the compassionate governor of Arizone who has denied pre-app-roved patients organ transplants. There's a Republican death panel you can embrace. This woman is so incredibly ill-informed, it is frightening.

Outdoes the holacaust big time. Gee the poor are such an inconvenience. And this rediculous twit really believes that insurance companies are going to limit care and drugs. hello earth to mars or whatever. They have been doing that for years. Just finished a two week battle with Hummana (lost) about cance specialty drugs. 2 grand up front or die. And we have brewer and Pence in two different states cutting medicaid. people are REALLY dying for lack of treatment. And these two clowns neeed to be arrested for attempted murder. A citizens arees will do.

"Death Panels" cannot be BACK, you stupid woman! There were never there to begin with. It was all rattling around in your empty head. All of the Health Care nonsense was fabricated. It absolutely was available on the Internet for anyone to read, along with all of the Amendments, right from the beginning. And it was read by legislators who spoke quite specifically about its contents on many programs. Why do people believe all this nonsense? Where do they get their information? One woman recently wrote to our newspaper that the word "Creator" is in the Constitution NINE times! Obviously, she never read it even one time or she would know that's false. Uninformed isn't a strong enough word for these nutty people.

It would be beneficial to Americans if the media would quit covering the antics of Sarah Palin. She won't even be a footnote in future history books.

A horrifying thought – if 1 in 4 Americans think the Wasilla Imbecilla is qualified to be president, do this. Stand at your front door. Look at the house to your left, the house to your right, and the one directly across the street. If you can read this, it's not you. One of your 3 neighbors may be very, very stupid.

No one wants to hear of "death panels". Personal experience even 15 years ago proved that without an advocate, aged and chronically ill [atients do not receive anything more than pallitive care. Present day medical care of my 66 year old brother prove this is still in place. It has been shown age affects treatment course for stroke and cancers. I truly believe this will all get worse as politicians try to cut debt and the Obamacare. England and France are lving proof that socialized medicine and leveling society are not sustainable.....especially in a country with less than 50% paying taxes!

Per person GDP would be 2058, huh? Who cares? That barely says anything of substance. How does the income distribution look in order to get this 2058 per person GDP? If mean income increases yet median income decreases that means the income gap is spreading.

I'm all for encouraging people to be more successful and earn more money. But personally, I'd rather have our economy be held up by the larger middle class rather the few ultra rich. Having our economy being dependent on a relatively small but super wealthy portion of the population is like having your retirement portfolio invested heavily in one company. If the super rich, for whatever reason, didn't spend money EVERYONE ELSE would suffer.

Why does this idiot keep using that term? Doesn't she realize what a joke it is, and that SHE is, when she mentions "death panels?" She's attempted three different definitions of that, and every single one of them was wrong. She wants to run the country, or even have a say in who else might?

Palin should come to AZ. Here the GOP leadership has their own death panals. To save budget they are cutting all sorts of health services to those in real need. Heck its making national news... Come on big mouth you want to talk about death panels then talk about the GOP lead death panels in AZ to start with today. Don't point a finger unless you are truely interested in the big picture. GOP not dems are sponsoring death here in AZ!

If i been paying into a program like S.S. or Medicare; what more personal responsibility and independence could be expected of me; When this same discussion is applied to the Highest earner in our population where is the quest for more personal responsibility and independence

Of course bureaucrats will decide what is spent, not doctors. That's how it works now. That's how it works with private insurance too! Doctors and patients can't just spend whatever they want, there has to be someone making sure it's reasonable. Check your insurance coverage – surprise! There are limits in it! Money doesn't grow on trees. That's not a "death panel" it's just life.

It's ridiculous inflammatory language like this that keeps us from having real debate.

Can't the Republicans find anyone better than her ?
I'm sorry, but the Republicans got us into this mess in the first place. They are the last people I trust to bail us out.

at least she is leaving Obama alone for a change. And I think she is spot on with the statement that there shouldn't be any cuts to Defense.

Just watched a video on CNN showing Sarah killing a caribou. The species is named Rangifer tarandus, or reindeer. So, Sarah is up in Alaska killing reindeer. Suddenly, the Republican War on Christmas taks on a whole new aspect.

Good God...is she still trying to sell that "death panel" crap? Wasn't that totally debunked the first time around? And didn't huge military spending drive us to huge debts under Reagan? Our military is still built for massive air superiority and "my big tanks fight your big tanks" type of fighting. But that type of fighting isn't likely in our future. We're likely facing more of the regional skirmish type of thing (like Afghanistan).

"bureaucrats, not medical professionals, the ultimate arbiters of what types of treatment will (and especially will not) be reimbursed under Medicare." This already happens – its called health insurance companies. The GOP solutions only make them stronger.
And her opinion on Defense spending is ridiculous. The Military industry complex is wasteful, inefficient, and completely unnecessary if we stop creating wars.
