Palin warns of new 'death panels'

(CNN) - "Death Panels" could be back, Sarah Palin says. But this time they are not the creation of the Obama administration. No, these are the handiwork of the bipartisan debt commission.

In an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, the former Alaska governor takes aim at several of the controversial commission's recommendations, saying the cuts it proposes "implicitly endorses the use of 'death panel'-like rationing."

Palin highlights the commission's proposal for an Independent Payments Advisory Board, a committee, she says, that will make "bureaucrats, not medical professionals, the ultimate arbiters of what types of treatment will (and especially will not) be reimbursed under Medicare."

The former Alaska governor also takes aim at the commission for advocating cuts in defense, an area that Palin says should be off-limits.

"Among the few areas of spending it does single out for cuts is defense - the one area where we shouldn't be cutting corners at a time of war," she writes. "Worst of all, the commission's proposals institutionalize the current administration's new big spending commitments."

Ultimately Palin, who appears to be beefing up both her economic and foreign policy credentials of late, hitches her wagon to GOP Congressman and budget guru Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.

"In my view, a better plan is the Roadmap for America's Future produced by Rep. Paul Ryan. The Roadmap offers a reliable path to long-term solvency for our entitlement programs, and it does so by encouraging personal responsibility and independence."

Ryan, the Republicans go-to voice in the House on all things budget, would make for a key ally for Palin should she seek to further increase her own credibility on what is likely to be the No. 1 issue for Americans in the two years leading up to the 2012 presidential election.

"We must turn around before it's too late, and [Ryan's] roadmap offers a clear plan for doing so," Palin hales. "But it does more than just fend off disaster. CBO calculations show that the Roadmap would also help create a "much more favorable macroeconomic outlook" for the next half-century. The CBO estimates that under the Roadmap, by 2058 per-person GDP would be around 70 percent higher than the current trend."

the only thing she's beefing up is her pocket book. and nothing wrong with that. just that it comes at the exspence of the dumb and naive.

Not the "death panel" thing again, Palin. Actually, on second thought, keep crying wolf. Maybe it'll get your followers to actually think about what you're telling them. And how is this any different than insurance companies deciding what treatment you can and cannot have based on cost? Tacky catch phrases you continue to spew are just getting old.

Ask her the difference between microeconomics and macroeconomics. Please, just ask her. Thanks Katy Couric.

Like bimbo here, I don't claim to be an expert in economics (neither is she) and I don't "have" a journalism degree (neither does she) but the words used in this op-ed are big intelligent words and they are about economics so she didn't write it. She is now using ghost writers to make herself look as if she knows what the hell she is talking about and we ALL know she isn't this smart. Not for a nanosecond. She can't beef up enough gray matter to even pretend she is smart! It ain't going to work idiot!
Was she available to answer questions as to what she means about all of this. Of course not. She would have pretended to faint so whe wouldn't answer those gotcha questions about things she knows nothing about. The great pretender.
Now that she is not traveling to the UK or Israel as a tourist I do hope she files over the Bermuda Triangle on her way to Haiti. Tthose people don't need anyone lke her visiting them. it's a photo oppurtunity for the media whore to pretend whatever she thinks she is going to get out of this trip. She could care less about the people of Haiti. She is no Mother Teresa or Diana. she is a disguting fake.

When is Palin's 15 minutes of fame up? I am growing increasingly tired of this woman's dribble. She is interesting in only one thing and that is anything she can say or do to get her face in the media. When did she become an economist? She is a good example of why the upper 5% earners need a major tax increase. What has she done to improve the unemployment rate?

I wonder who wrote her analysis for her comments...seems a far cry to her most notable comment "I can see Russia from here". I hope Ryan enjoys here tag along position.

Wonder if she means "like Governor Jan Brewer(R) is doing in Arizona by cutting transplant funding"?

Hmmm - will she run for Governor of Arizona when she loses the Presidential bid?

Is she sane ? Making remarks like this lessen her chances to become POTUS . Unless the citizens of the USA are also crazed. And I don't believe that for 1 second.

It looks like the GOP insiders have chosen Sarah as their new presidential sock puppet for 2012. This is just like they did with Bush Jr. only she is less intelligent and articulate. Just imagine the destruction the GOP could cause the USA with a figure head like Palin to exploit people's fears and ignorance.

Why is this turnip speaking about serious issues? Can't she just stay in the wilderness and shoot more animals? I'm waiting patiently for her to show signs of brain activity so her supporters can justify....their support.

  25. Sarah Palin does not speak for me in Ohio

CNN why don't you just have a regular link in your menu called"Sarah Palin attacsk, says, lies, exaggerates (fill in the blank)" Every day this woman offers misinformation to her mindless followers who believe she actually understands and has studied whatever subject she brings up. You give her so much coverage that you are encouraging her proclamations. At least put it under entertainment.
