(CNN) – Mike Huckabee is weighing in on the Sarah Palin v. Michelle Obama face-off when it comes to suggesting nutritional guidelines for Americans – and he's taking the First Lady's side.
"With all due respect to my colleague and friend Sarah Palin, I think she's misunderstood what Michelle Obama is trying to do," Huckabee, who has long documented his own battle with weight said Tuesday on the "Curtis Sliwa Show."
Huckabee's comments come in response to a remark from Palin on her TLC reality show Sunday during a scene in which the former Alaska governor is seen making s'mores - the not-so-healthy dessert of chocolate and marshmallows.
"[This] in honor of Michelle Obama, who said the other day we should not have dessert," Palin quipped as she served up the tasty treat.
But it's not the first time Palin has taken a jab at Mrs. Obama over her campaign to discourage fattening foods, especially from public schools. The former vice presidential nominee told conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham last month that "the first lady cannot trust parents to make decisions for their own children, for their own families in what we should eat."
Palin also hand-delivered cookies to a Pennsylvania school last month before delivering a speech there, saying: "Who should be deciding what I eat? Should it be government or should it be parents? It should be the parents."
Meanwhile, Mike Huckabee has previously expressed support for efforts to improve America's eating habits, himself having once weighed in at 280 before shedding 110 pounds in 2004. He's also the author of the 2005 healthy-lifestyle book, "Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork."
Palin's comments Sunday were in reference to a speech Michelle Obama delivered in July, during which she described her own upbringing when it came to food and exercise.
"In the afternoon, there was no way we'd be allowed to lie around the house watching TV," she told the NAACP in a Kansas City speech. "Our parents made us get up and play outside."
"As I tell my kids, dessert is not a right," she added.
Huckabee = 1, Palin = 0
Who really cares what Palin, says or thinks? And, who cares if Huckabee, sides with Palin or Michelle? The injured party is the American people and their inability to think for themselves, without input from the likes of Palin, or Huckabee. Look at your situation, and think for yourselves. You do not now, nor have you ever needed input from Palin or Huckabee.
Lets see, need I list them all? At this point it is an understatement to say Phoney Palin or "PP" has her foot in her mouth. Its up to her knee. I say let her go give her more rope!
Wow, a republican finally sticking up for a democrat doing something right. Now if the rest of the GOP would do the same thing, just think what The President and Democrats could get done for our Nation!
Oh goody! I just can't start off my day without some dumb story from CNN about the half-term dimwit.
This woman will be in the spot light for the rest of her life, we may as well get use to it. AND, she will continue to get rich off the conservatives. Dumb is as Dumb is... she's DUMB.
Can CNN go a single day without a ticker on the main page about Sarah Palin? You guys are wearing me out! Enough already,.. we get it,... you don't like her! Can we move on?
Ticker: Sarah Palin is Wrong. No kidding.
Specifically this is what opinions should be made , evidence and actual experience. Huck was a fatty, now he is not. I wonder how he lost the weight? I am sure it wasn't the 'Palin the Pounds' exercise video
It is nice to see someone in the GOP who really puts life ahead of negative politics. Tell me something positive coming from the GOP. NOTHING.
"Sarah P has misunderstood..." That about sums it up.
Republicans get it only after they have been through it. If they have not been through it then whatever the bible says is true. Now if only most of these Republicans had to go through the painful labyrinth of our messed up health system then we would have public option right now. But since none of them had to go through whatever the insurance company says is true.
Sarah Palin is an idiot. What is wrong with the First Lady promoting healthy eating habits? People like Sarah Palin that despise every aspect of government (except the military) say that the government is wrong- how dare the government say I should eat healthy! Who is the First Lady to say childhood obesity is an epidemic, and public schools should serve healthier lunches? Eat cookies! I'm willing to bet if Michelle Obama were married to a Republican president, Palin would be giving out apples and carrots at her next school appearance.
Palin;Big Nose, worthless chatter, stupid laugh, goffy hair , floppy shoes what A CLOWN.
"With all due respect to my colleague and friend Sarah Palin...
Sorry Mike, Palin deserves ZERO RESPECT. She is a horrible person who should not be a serious candidate for President of the United States. When I think about a candidate for president, I imagine someone who is wicked smart, compassionate, and possesses a sense of intelect. Palin has NONE of these traits. She is nothing but a caricature who is out for her own selfish interests.
I mean, mocking an anti-obesity campaign? So, she thinks its perfectly fine for our kids to grow up fatter, dumber, and sicker? Is she going to personally pay for all their diabetes treatments when they continue to gorge themselves on smores? Leave it to Palin to turn anything positive into a negative all in the name of shameless self promotion.
For all the tweeting and facebooking she does against Obama, has she ever once come up with a cohesive policy alternative? Of course not, because she is too dumb and naive. And the right wing idiots who follow her can't see past the tip of their own noses.
Thank heavens over 60% of Americans think she is unfit to be president. I can't believe that number isn't more like 99.99%.
Cheers to a potential 2012 Republican Presidential Candidate who isn't afraid NOT to have Palin's endorsement. He's smart enough to realize you speak out for and against what is right and wrong based on principle, values, and common sense... not based on what will get you ahead politically. The independents are going to win the 2012 election for someone. I hate to break it to all the Republicans pretending Palin is a formidable candidate, but whoever gets her endorsement will LOSE independent support. AND, those voters who support all things Palin would never vote democrat anyways... you already have their votes future republican nominee... so please get smart about this.
If one will put a gun over my head to chose between Huckabee and the queen of Alaska. I will die for Huckbee. I do know that Huckabee knows better how it feels to be overweight, and how it takes to drop it. The other lady from nowhere and going nowhere has not even a single clue of the entire talk.
Though I have made a comment on this CNN. I am totally tired to read about Sarah every day. Who is she and what position does she hold that you keep her on news everyday! Please try to keep your dignity CNN!
Palin is wrong about everything....
Can we ask Palin if 'Liquor to be allowed by parents if they can take such decision' Will MS Palin make it as law?
I'm getting so tired of CNN reporting on an almost daily basis on anything to do with Sarah Palin, especially in regards to her political rants. This woman quit half way through her first term of the politically insignificant state of Alaska and criticizes anything anyone says or does – Republican or Democrat. She's nothing more than a celebrity and I really wish CNN would stop reporting on her!
Governor Huckabee's comments indicate his belief in the proven fallacy that Sarah Palin involves any logic or reason when she speaks. She does not. She does not think. She has never thought. Not a day in her life. Governor Huckabee needn't justify with a response the words of such an individual.
you lost my vote on your comments
Why admit she's a "friend and colleague"? With friends like this.....
Sarah Palin is an ignorant wannabe, enough said.
Bravo to Huckabee. I'm glad he spoke his beliefs instead of blindly following Palin's lead.
Michelle Obama's encouragement of healthy eating is totally apt and appropriate considering the incidence of childhood obesity. Palin's hyperbole in distorting Michelle's words into government interference in family matters just confirms her as an angry lightweight who is only looking for headlines instead of presenting workable solutions.
I have more respect for Mike Huckabee now that he's shown he's not just a conservative talking point. The thing is, parents actually DON'T choose what is in the cafeteria. All Michelle Obama is suggesting is a little healthier food and to lay off the dessert sometimes, not all the time. Everything in moderation, ya?
