Senate votes to approve START treaty

(CNN) - The Senate voted Wednesday to approve the new nuclear arms control treaty with Russia - a major foreign policy victory for the Obama administration near the end of the lame-duck session of Congress.

The New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, or New START, was cleared with the help of solid Democratic support, as well as the backing of several Republican senators.

Final score on START; National Security 1, GOP 0. How is that country first working for ya?

When Obama brings Republicans considerations like McCain's missle defense ammendment here into the discussion, he will find things can move forward quickly. Americans have spoken and when they said work with the Republicans it turns out to have been good advise.

    AWWWWWW come on now!
It would've been a lot more fun to have the RethugliKKKlans continue to compromise and put at risk our national security!!
Geez, what's the fun in having the GOP see the light an act judiciously,I ask you?!

Congratulations Mr. President. You've worked hard and earned your vacation! Enjoy Hawaii!!!!

Sen. Demint and the newly elected Sen. Kirk voted against the treaty. This goes to show you how out of touch these idiots are with our national security. I'm personally not concerned of Russia shooting some rockets over here. What i am concerned with is some terrorists getting there hands on the loose nukes that are in Russia. That's why this treaty is important. Sen. McCain finally pulled his head out of his behind, added an amendment and went along with the treaty as well. History will judge these obstructionists congressmen/women harshly.

Thank you to all senators on both sides who supported our national security by passing START! President Obama also deserves great credit for his hard work.

By contrast, shame on disgraceful Kyl, bitter McCain, leaderless McConnell, et. al for their disgusting political games when our national security is at stake!

So many of my posts are not seen and decided by CNN that they are too thought provoking so I am doubtful this one will find its way either.

This administration has done so much damage to this country that for the first time in my life (I am 48) I worry about the survival of once was a great nation. Now it incentivizes those to not work (welfare/food stamps/etc) and disincentivizes people to be successful (i.e. "at some point you have made enough money" and "the reason for the economic decline has been tax cuts for the "rich"). Businesses see the impending health care costs, increase in tax rates ,etc. and deciding at minimum not to hire and in some cases simply saying "screw it" and closing their business to retire. It's a whole lot easier to make 3% return on a Treasury Bill and sip margaritas in the Carribean than to risk 100's of thousands of dollars (or millions?) knowing you may lose it or, if you are lucky enough to be successful, be "an evil rich" and taxed higher where you only make, say, 5% return. I see it every day where businesses are telling me if this Health Care Law is not repealed they don't see how they can stay in business.

The only suggestion I have is to make sure you have at least a couple guns and a WHOLE lot of ammo. Because when the riots happen or (god forbid!!) we are significantly attacked (due to Obama so signficantly weakening our country because of this treaty) you can at least protect your own family. The damage Obama and the Democrats have done to this country are shameful and dangerous. I don't see how the danger can be reduced so say goodbye to the U.S. you once knew and prepare to defend yourself. In just a couple years you will see an economy with potentially 15% to 20% unemployment, a country where the rest of the world no longer trusts our currency, we will have hyperinflation, and there will be significant looting and rioting in the streets. Mark my words AND PREPARE!!

I think we have all seen enough of posts from the Orlando guy. Treason is his all he's got. I, for one, hope that the FBI and Homeland Security are monitoring his patriotism.

    "disincentivizes people to be successful"

HAHAHA...I'm pretty sure that people who are not making millions look at the difference between earning $1,000,000 and taking home 67% of it or 64% of it as completely and utterly meaningless. If the gov't wants another $30K, they can have it...most of us would give our left arm to go home with $640K per year.

One thing, and one thing only, needs to be said to the extremely rich and corporations who "create all the jobs":

If you would like to pay less in taxes to the government to cover "entitlement programs" designed to create a societal safety net for those in need, i.e. the least among us, THEN STOP CREATING THE NEED BY ABUSING THE POWER AFFORDED YOU BY YOUR WEALTH AND START PAYING YOUR MIDDLE-CLASS WORKERS SALARIES THAT DON'T REQUIRE THEM TO LIVE BURDENED WITH MASSIVE CONSUMER DEBT TO MEET THEIR NEEDS.

You want to rid the country of social assistance programs? Get rid of the need.
