Limbaugh says Dems playing politics with Giffords shooting

Washington (CNN) - Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh offered a vigorous defense of himself and Sarah Palin Monday in response to claims from some media commentators and those on the left that their charged statements and colorful language may have inspired the Arizona shootings.

"[The media] is unnecessarily stirring up the country in ways that don't merit," Limbaugh said on his radio program Monday. "It's fatuous and silly to even verify and justify these accusations by defending them. The premise is insane, it's silly, it's beneath these people. Or is it? It is who they are."

Limbaugh's comments come in response to accusations that the charged political atmosphere of 2010 – of which Limbaugh, Palin, and others played a central role – may have incited the use of violence among troubled individuals like Jared Lee Loughner, the suspect that is accused of opening fire outside a Tucson supermarket, where Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was meeting with constituents Saturday.

"We are we constantly admonished not to rush to conclusions. Now…reporters are bending over backwards to link this shooting to me, to Sarah Palin, to an entire industry - talk radio," Limbaugh said. "Only in these instances is something said in the media said to influence public behavior. Go out and try to tell these same people that one of their top grossing movies has influenced has influenced abject perversion or radical behavior and they will attack you left and right.

"All of this has been pure politics, disguised as compassion and concern for a congresswoman," Limbaugh added.

After you get settled, I would love to talk about what we can do to promote centrism and moderation," Giffords wrote in the email, provided to CNN by Grayson. "I am one of only 12 Dems left in a GOP district (the only woman) and think that we need to figure out how to tone our rhetoric and partisanship down."

And she was target by Sara Palln in her crosshair and look with happen. Some one was real serious about taking down the last Dem in the GOP district. I don't care Sara Palin is going to pay policially for this tragic.

Rush moves to Step #4 in the GOP Playbook?

    1. Use apocalyptic rhetoric that exacerbates fear, bigotry and extremism among the uneducated and intolerant.
    2. Counter any liberal criticism of your inflammatory calls for action by saying they can't take a joke.
    3. Keep turning up the heat and act shocked when somebody heeds your calls for extreme action.
    4. Be sure to maintain you were only speaking figuratively and you are being unfairly blamed when violence occurs (extra credit for insinuating that liberals set this up themselves and/or are playing politics).
    5. Keep your celebrations behind closed doors.

Hah! So Limbaugh and his ilk can broadcast the craziest nonsense and incite violence, but when it happens, and they are called on it, THAT is playing politics. That's RICH!

Look- going back to Gingrich's GOPAC memo of 1994 that called for Republicicans to defame Democrats (calling them perverts, anti-family, or un-American, etc.) to Sarah Palin's over-heated rhetoric (getting people to cry "lynch him" referring to Obama) at the McCain-Palin rallies to targeting Democrats with their "2nd Amendment" solutions, Republicans and their Tea Party subsidiary have been playing with fire. Sure, it might just be politcs to them, but it is a notoriously foul and dangerous brand of politics that predictably would lead to violence.

The right wing broadcasters have only taken Gingrich's play book and run it out farther and faster. Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh and all have accused Democrats and our President with the boldest, baddest stuff ever broadcast- all of it false! It is time they own up to what they have been peddling.

I think Rush is the nastiest news commentator I have ever listen to and I don't listen any longer. He loves to fan the flames of decent and that is what has made his radio show so successful. He scares the crap out of people so they will vote to his thinking. What is a greater motivator than fear. Fear creates desperation, and desperation in the hands of some unstable individuals is dangerous. These unstable people act out by feeling they are heros when in fact they are just sad delusional people that are unable to reason by themselves what is political rhetoric and harmless opinionated commentary. Speaking of delusional thinking, Rush doesn't even have the sense to understand how harmful is viscious rants and half truths are to this country. Sarah Palin also likes to throw around the poison pellets of fear. It is how they gather their frightened flock of loyal followers. This is what makes Rush and Sarah, in my way of thinking, the authors of Terror! It may not be there intend but it appears to be having that effect. I think you can probably add Glen Beck to that list too. It's so sad what is happening to our beloved USA. It is going to take more than prayers to change the anger that is just below the surface of many of the sad mixed up people out there that are thinking that they can become heros by harming others.

Because the aftermath of a shooting is no time to discuss why the shooter did it. Right, Rush?

Everything you do is relentless self-promotion, disguised as compassion and concern for our country. You have done nothing to move the tone of our national discourse in a sane, productive direction, and you have ridiculed anyone attempting to do so as a RINO, a Marxist, a Nazi, etc. On the basis of your comments, you are saying that the liberals don't assume responsibility to your satisfaction, so why should I? Its a moral copout coming from a thrice-married drug addict who only became success ful as a rabble-rouser.

Assume responsibility for the tone of your words, and be a man about it. Otherwise, shut up.
