Washington (CNN) - There are many reasons to place Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, at the top of any 2012 vice presidential shortlist. He's young, telegenic, a talented fundraiser, and appealing to the conservative base. And perhaps most importantly, he's a Hispanic hailing from the nation's largest battleground state.
But Rubio, who has yet to take a vote as a U.S. Senator, was eager to shoot down the speculation in a radio interview Monday.

(CNN)– Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords remains in critical condition but her condition has stabilized, doctors at Tucson's University Medical Center indicated Monday.
"We're not out of the woods yet" but are optimistic about her prospects of recovery, said Dr. Michael Lemole, chief of neurosurgery.

Washington (CNN) - The Supreme Court interrupted its public session Monday to mark the nationwide moment of silence in memory of the victims of Saturday's mass shooting in Arizona that left a federal judge dead and a congresswoman seriously wounded.
Chief Justice John Roberts and his eight colleagues paused on the bench after hearing their first oral argument. Roberts had opened the session by saying, "That senseless shooting on Saturday caused devastating injury to persons who all, in their own way, contribute to the strength of our nation... I speak for the members of this court in extending our condolences to all the victims and their families."

(CNN) – Sarah Palin is responding to heat from some commentators that her at-times charged rhetoric during the 2010 campaign may have helped inspire attacks against government officials similar to that which occurred in Tucson, Arizona over the weekend.
"I hate violence," Palin told Fox News' Glenn Beck in an e-mail, which Beck relayed on his radio program Monday morning. "I hate war. Our children will not have peace if politicos just capitalize on this." Palin's response was first reported by Politico.

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden has landed in Afghanistan, his office said Monday.
Washington (CNN) - It is one of the most successful television shows in TLC's history, but it appears Sarah Palin's Alaska will be limited to one season only, according to Entertainment Weekly.
According to the magazine, producer Mark Burnett has no plans to head back to Alaska for a second-season taping – despite the show's average viewership of over 3 million. It remains unclear whose decision it was to limit the adventure-themed program to one season.

(CNN) – Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee appears to have the clear advantage out of the gate when it comes to the 2012 battle for the GOP presidential nomination, enjoying a significantly higher net-favorability rating and name identification among national Republicans than any other potential candidate.
According to the new survey by Gallup, Huckabee has a net-favorability rating (the difference between those who hold a favorable view and those who hold an unfavorable view) of 30 percent.

Washington (CNN) - Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is calling on conservatives to step up their outreach to Hispanic voters if they want to remain politically relevant.
In a Miami Herald op-ed Sunday, Bush wrote that "the center-right movement" is a natural home for Hispanic voters with its message of lower taxes and education reform.
