Christie says Palin needs to let loose

(CNN) – Sarah Palin is getting some unsolicited advice from another popular Republican, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Christie, who has never expressed particular affection for the former Alaska governor, says Palin needs to engage with the media and voters in settings less staged than those she currently utilizes.

“You have to look at it and see, what are they like when they’re tested, what are they like when they’re not scripted, what are they like when they’re pushed,” Christie told the New York Times Wednesday. He added the former vice presidential nominee “rightfully has been criticized” for her refusal to go less scripted.

Christie - whose no-nonsense and tough-guy governing style has won the hearts of many Republicans - has a communication strategy that differs markedly from that of Palin, often venturing into hostile territories and combating with critics.

“I would contend to you that if Governor Palin never does any of those things, she’ll never be president, because people in America won’t countenance that. They just won’t,” Christie added.

Christie’s comments came the same day Palin broke her silence on the Arizona shootings with an eight-minute video posted on her Facebook page that was criticized by Democrats and Republicans for its charged language.

During his 2009 campaign for governor, Christie said point blank he was not interested in having Palin campaign for him, telling reporters that an appearance by her in the traditionally blue state of New Jersey would not “do me, or frankly the state, a whole lot of good.”

"what are they like when they’re tested, what are they like when they’re not scripted, what are they like when they’re pushed" That's exactly what she DOESN'T want, has been actively avoiding. "Name a book you've ever read." "uh, uh ..."

personally I don't think Sarah Palin is going to run for POTUS, I mean why take the paycut even though her popularity ratings are on the decline. Hopefully for her sake she made some good investments. But I agree here with the gov.....she needs to STOP tweeting, hiding behind Facebook, and sending e-mails to buddies at FoxNews and come and face the REAL media to defend herself. And I don't mean just FoxNews I'm talking about the "lame-stream evil left wing media" she claims to dislike so much. I don't blame Palin one bit for the tragic shooting in Tucson, but I do think her rhetoric can be toxic esp to someone who's elevator may not go all the way to the top.

Yes she definitely should go unscripted. She did that with Katie Curic and it didn't turn out so well. But that was the real Sara Palin. 70% of the public already know what they would get with the unscripted Sara.

Ms. Palin is in way over her head. She really is closer to a politico/entertainment talk show host like Laura Ingraham than a real political leader.

Why is Palin still taken seriously? I think that maybe she is a joke that the media is keeping in the spotlight to hide more viable Republicans. I am bewildered by the fact that she is in the headlines literally every day. It is like a car wreck, you know that you shouldn't look, but we are all morbidly curious to see how ugly it can get. I feel bad for any serious Republican who has been overshadowed by Palin.

When Palin isn't reading a teleprompter she comes off as a blithering idiot. Any real politician should do what Christy is talking about, but she better stick to those scripts to keep her dwindling fan base as intact as she can and as long as she can so she can keep rolling in those $$$$.

The only advise you should give her is the same that Barbara Bush said and as a conservative myself I totally agree. I hope she stays in Alaska where she can continue to have flippin fun!!!

Even though I have a great disdain for anything republican , I can be open to civil and truthful comments coming from Christie , when will other republicans and some people ( we know who you are ) will come out and speak the truth about Palin . She will never ever be a serious presidential contender . WHY ? Palin allows comments from the public and media get to her , she responds to everything like a high school kid but never faces any real media questions , everything is scripted with her . How can you claim to want to be president when you won't talk to everyone . I pretty much think that this is the end of her political career , one thing is certain she's not presidential material !

  17. Ferret out the B.S.

MS Palin is spoiling for a fight or she appears to want that. Quite frankly while there are some that in the same frame of mind and want to be bullies and push their ideology on everyone whether you agree or not, there are many voters / non-voters that are just plain sick of it, sick and tired of her, limbaugh, and beck. We've all heard the rants for far too long now and are just either burned out or just not listening because we don't beilieve it. Many have learned to see through the BS and take it for what it is. Especially when she makes up words, and misuses statements and phrases.

Why does she need to engage with the media at all? She's a candidate? For what? Can she handle a press conference, an interview, a debate?

"Christie – who’s no-nonsense and tough-guy governing style..." An editor needs to check the articles. It's not "who's." It should be "whose."

  22. Sarah Palin does not speak for me in Ohio

I don't think Ms. Palin can go less scripted and more spontaneous. She is being fed catch words and phrases by her handlers and doesn't grasp the meaning or significance of what she is saying. She is indeed being used as a pit bull which only responds to the command "attack" without thought or understanding. This is what we saw in the 2008 campaign and it continues today.

Palin should do absolutely the opposite.
She has ‘let loose’ enough for nearly three years. She needs to go away.
Christie is correct in one respect however. Palin’s public cowardly appearances are limited to Fox TV, her Reality Show, her book signings and other events where she is shielded by her handlers.
If she were to really face the music and let loose, she would only embarrass and humiliate herself even more. You can’t hide stupid, or racist, or bigoted. All of which are Sarah Palin’s strongest attributes; much like her legions of brownshirt patriots.

If Sarah Palin wants to be president she will have to act presidential. That has not happened yet and especially with the last video post.

While it would certainly be entertaining, it would not be in Sarah Palin's best interests to put herself in an uncontrolled environment with regard to media. If Sarah starts ad libbing, Jon Stewart's writing staff will have a field day.
