DeMint to skip CPAC

(CNN) - Republican South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint is opting out of an appearance at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), making him the latest Republican to the criticize what some have seen as a pro-gay tilt to the prominent conference.

"With leading conservatives organizations not participating this year, Senator DeMint will not be attending. He hopes to attend a unified CPAC next year," DeMint spokesman Wesley Denton told CNN.

Conservative groups including the Heritage Foundation, Tony Perkins' Family Research Council and Brent Bozell's Media Research Center are boycotting the event over the inclusion of GOProud, a gay conservative group. Other conservatives are upset Indiana Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels was invited to speak. Daniels called for a "truce" on social issues while the country works through its economic problems.

But the list of attendees for the February event includes Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

The Republican party is just plain sick. A bunch of mental sickos trying to work for support. The worst part is there are plenty of other sickos out there who can understand this bimbo mentality!

The absence of raging homophobia is "a pro-gay tilt?"

I do so wish the bible-thumping, self-righteous, bigoted, neo-cons would just go away!

Doesn't Daniels know that social issues are all the GOP has. You can tell because the GOP is already trying to divert attention away from jobs and the economy.

The GOP = our way or the highway!

No big tent; no tolerance; no freedom.

Just sit down, shut up and do what we tell you!

How anyone can in one breath say they are Republicans and support democracy is beyond me!

Who cares? Demint is another right-wing thug who has no concept of what it means to live in a constitutional democracy. He is another fake self-proclaimed patriot who managed never to serve in the military. He voted against the new GI Bill for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. He voted against a $500 million addition of funding for veterans for treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health problems and substance abuse. He is a total piece of crap.

"Pro-gay" leanings? How about "favoring the freedom of each individual to be who and how they are"? Isn't personal liberty what conservatives are all about? Guess that's jsut their cover story.

perhaps groups like GOPride and the Log Cabin Republicans should get the hint. They are wanted by the GOP like an African American or Jewish person is wanted by the Ku Klux Klan. Yet they still want to call themselves conservative Republicans. Tsk, tsk. tsk

I love these people. They are starting to eath their young and throw away their elders.
If any of these old time rethugs had spent some time denouncing the witch from AK and bachman, limberger and silly girl beck, among others, they wouldn't have to be dividing their ancient party like they are now forced to do.
This is going to be fun to watch from the sidelines. 🙂

There is no room for gays in the republican party. Nor is their room for minorities, middle class, non southern Christians, and moderates. There is always room in the GOP for the lying job killing bootlickers of billionaires.

DeMint is a right wing fanatic representing the religious right from the dark ages. He is irrelevant.

I think this is the final nail in the coffin of republican "inclusiveness". Face it guys, like-it-or-not you have become a haven for the wild-eyed in this country; "include" them all you want but they themselves want no part of it!

As long as there is a DeMint in politics, people will forget about the corrupt former governor of Illinois and the current corrupt governor of Florida.

This guy fits the profile of what the Nazis did in Germany. If you go back to Hitler's speeches, he would make countless references to God. He is right and everyone else is wrong. if it was up to Deminted, he would have non Christians rounded up and gassed like the Nazis did to Jewish people.

"Unified" under what, DeMint? Bigotry? So tired of the PAC organizations and the divisive special interests they represent. How can any Americans be proud of that?

Surely, our country can do better.
