(CNN) – As if Rep. Michele Bachmann's foray into the early-voting state of Iowa didn't raise enough 2012 speculation already, now comes news the Minnesota Republican will meet behind closed doors with two of the most important GOP officials in the state.
Bachmann, who is heading to Des Moines Friday to deliver a keynote address at an event sponsored by the Iowans for Tax Relief, is also scheduled to meet with newly-minted Republican Gov. Terry Branstad and Iowa GOP head Matt Strawn, Bachmann spokesman Doug Sachtleben tells CNN.
Sachtleben would not say if Bachmann's potential presidential ambitions would be discussed in the meetings, though it's safe to say both Branstad and Strawn will be pivotal behind-the-scenes players in the lead up to the first-in-the-nation caucus.
Earlier this month, Sachtleben told CNN that Bachmann "hasn't ruled anything out" when it comes to a presidential bid.
The outspoken congresswoman was among the first conservatives to embrace the Tea Party movement and has remained one of its staunchest allies in Congress. Last year she formed the House Tea Party Caucus and is usually a staple at Tea Party-backed events throughout the country. Bachmann is also a political ally of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, herself a Tea Party favorite who is mulling a presidential bid.
While little known to the broader electorate, Bachmann would enter the presidential race as a relatively familiar face to the Republican base. Her constant presence at conservative conferences in Washington and her at-times eyebrow-raising comments have all but made her a national figure among many Republican stalwarts – as well as a constant target of Democrats.
Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, just struck me as funny!
We need Bachman to run. With Palin flaiming out too soon, who else is there to capture the wingnut vote?
Bachman/Gingnrich 2012!!!!!!!!
PLEASSEE, PLEASE, PLEASE, elect her as the Republican presidential nominee. PLEASE!!!!
Thanks for the laugh, CNN. For a spilt second I actually thought Bachmann was serious. Then it hit me - it's Michelle Bachmann - her Royal Clown-ness of the GOP (Greed over People), who is famous for simply making stuff up and selling it as fact, like that half-wit/half-govenor of Alaska. Michelle Bachmann = Sarah Palin Lite.
Like Ms. Palin, I'm sure Bachmann is stressed out by her diminishing relevance. Man, that must sting when you have to honestly tell yourself, "I'm no longer viable."
She just like Sarah Palin has a snowball's chance in hell of being elected outside of her own (obviously) insane district. She has shown herself to be one of the least intelligent and most hateful members of Conress.
Palin, Bachmann, Engle. Could anyone have come up with better reasons for denying women the right to vote and run for office? Susan B. Anthony must be turning over in her grave.
If the GOP expects to have a shot in 2012 they need to stop pulling these nutcases out of the closet. She will go down in flames just like Sarah Palin.
You're kidding right?
This woman is an idiot!
This shrill fascist doesn't have a chance at the presidency.... The ego of these GOP morons is unbelievable.
I hope this is true. The republicans need more clowns in their primary to help ensure 4 more years of Obama.
Don't make me laugh. Just because Republicans like half-smart, half-attractive, religious-zealot women doesn't mean one should be president. As if Sarah Palin hasn't sullied the Office of President of the United States enough by thinking that she is qualified to be there. Sheesh. Come on, you chowder heads. Our president needs to understand the Constitution, and needs to love people and the American way. Sarah and Michelle love only Sarah and Michelle!
This woman has no redeeming value. She is so self-aggrandizing, I'd almost say moreso than Palin. There are great women in public serve...Palin and Bachmann are just not among them.
Good lord, isn't one self deluded wingnut twit running from president enough? SNL is going to have a field day with this one. I can hardly wait.
I am certain that conservative nuts like Bachmann cannot and should not lead this country. it will be very detrimental to to the progress we have made so far. We don't want to be a laughing stock of the world by electing people like Bachmann and palin.
Please run, Michele. Please! Please! Please! As an ardent Democrat and as someone who truly loves America, I'm begging you, do everything you can to convince voters that the Republican party is just like you.
This country is getting scarier and scarier with each and every passing day.
Sarah Palin wannabe.
You know what, screw it, we don't need a sane government anyway. Palin-Bachmann 2012!
Sounds loony, I know, but politicians rarely hurt their standings with a presidential bid, no matter how implausible their candidacy. Even Jesse Jackson ran for President a few times.
Um, yeah. Good luck with that, Michele.
This is a JOKE and a waste of peoples time and resources. This women is not capable of answering any direct questions, she is a Sarah Palin clone. We need real leaders, not actors, this is not the direction we want to go in. The only women I see fit at this point to lead this country is Clinton. This women is going to be another embarrassment to the Republican Party.
For the Republicans to even give this nut case a thought for President clearly reveals the depths to which they have fallen. Let's see....Lincoln, T. Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Reagan and .....Bachman?!?!?!
What a nothing article Bachman meets with Iowa representatives next theis so called journalist is going to say earth shaking news Bachman goes to grocery store come on C.N.N you can do better than this. Why waste space for this nonsence.
