Washington (CNN) - Three longtime senators who have decided not to seek re-election in 2012 said Sunday that they believe the country is ready for serious bipartisan cooperation on major issues - especially tackling the massive national debt.
"When we begin to act in that way, working across party lines ... then it not only gets things done, but it increases the characteristic American optimism and confidence," independent Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, told ABC's "This Week." "To raise the GDP, I've been saying, we've got to raise the GDC, the gross domestic confidence."

Where were their voices for the last two years? I will not be missing Lieberman, and am confident that most Americans agree.
Talk is cheap when your leaving the job.
When they are retiring they get their wisdom. They don’t listen when they are in the office
Oh sure, now that the Republicans have gained control of the House and 6 more seats in the Senate NOW is the time for bipartisanship. What a crock. The demos ran roughshod over the minority party for the past two years, many times not even allowing for debate on bills. The nation voted for a major course correction in November. We didn't vote for allowing the demos to maintain the power to stall the rollback of their unconstitutional acts.
Why The Democrats didn't accept "Bipartisanship" 2 years ago? Why now when they have lost? They never accepted anything from republicans. I am democrat.
So they were blocking bipartisianship whjle in office?? Interesting...
Kay Bailey Hutchinson was going to confirm Justice Sotomayor until the NRA came out and said they would target any Senator who voted yes to confirm her. She is a shill to the NRA lobbyists. Good riddance.
The GOP are incapable of bipartisanship. Bush and company proved they wanted a dictatorship. President Obama has tried repeatedly to work with the GOP, but he should have saved himself the effort. All the GOP does is act like spoiled children pitching a temper tantrum. They do not want to help America. They want to destroy us from within. They've had ample opportunity for the last 10 years to try to work with the Democrats to make this country better, but they've refused. There can be no bipartisanship with the GOP as long as they are bent on their dictatorial agenda.
The time is always ripe when somebody else has to make the effort. They were elected as leaders; they should have led by example.
