Sources: Obama envoy urged Mubarak to drop re-election plans

Washington (CNN) - A U.S. envoy sent by President Barack Obama urged Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to announce he won't run for re-election later this year, sources told CNN on Tuesday.

The move signaled a major shift in U.S. foreign policy regarding Egypt, the main Arab ally of the United States and a vital partner in the Middle East peace process because of its 1978 treaty with Israel.

Mr. Mubarak needs to state that to the Egyptian people. I think he doesn't get the point 100% yet however. They want you gone now!
