
Washington (CNN) - The Republican National Committee will tap longtime GOP operative Jeff Larson to serve as chief of staff on Thursday, CNN has learned.
Larson, 52, was CEO of the Republican National Convention's host committee in 2008. The Minnesota native is a former RNC Regional Political Director and worked for former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.
Washington (CNN) - Senator John McCain is now calling for President Hosni Mubarak to step down and let an interim government take control of Egypt.
"The rapidly deteriorating situation in Egypt leads me to the conclusion that President Mubarak needs to step down and relinquish power," said McCain, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Washington (CNN) - Senate Democrats on Wednesday blocked a Republican effort to repeal the health care reform bill passed last year.
The 51-47 vote, along party lines, meant the procedural motion failed to get the necessary 60 votes to pass.

Capt. Mark Kelly, a NASA astronaut, will deliver closing prayer at the event, the Arizona congresswoman's office said in a statement.

Washington (CNN) - Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minnesota, will travel to the early primary state of South Carolina later this month as she mulls a possible White House bid in 2012, CNN has learned.
The outspoken conservative and Tea Party favorite will address a South Carolina Federation of Republican Women lunch in Columbia on Feb. 19, Spartanburg County Republican Party Chairwoman LaDonna Ryggs told CNN Wednesday.
