Gingrich: We're losing war on terror

Washington (CNN) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gave a grim assessment on the war on terror last night during a debate with former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, and suggested the situation unfolding in Egypt could pose a threat to the United States.

"Any honest assessment on 9/11 this year, ten years after the attack, I think will have to conclude that we're slowly losing the war," Gingrich said. "We're losing the war because there are madrassahs around the planet teaching hatred. We're losing the war because the network of terrorists is bigger, not smaller."

Gingrich pointed to the unrest in Egypt as posing a potential new threat to American security.

"There's a real possibility in a few weeks, if we're unfortunate, that Egypt will join Iran, and join Lebanon, and join Gaza, and join the things that are happening that are extraordinarily dangerous to us," Gingrich said.

Gingrich, who stopped short of announcing a bid for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, debated Dean on issues ranging from immigration to the economy.

And when an audience member pressed Gingrich about his stance on gay marriage, the former speaker defended his position.

"I'm quite happy to say that I come out of a tradition that is several thousand years old that says marriage is between a man and a woman," Gingrich said. "And I'm ready to defend that tradition and I happen to believe it. And I think I have as much right to my belief and you have to yours."

Perhaps after Obama is out of office in 2012, our new LEADER could allow him and the Clinton's to cover all middle eastern diplomacy save Israel, then perhaps we may find peace in this world of chaos as the trio of triage soothe the radical Muslim with their awesome show of intelligence and a Nobel peace prize trophy.

Wow newt, why don't you STFU????? How do people like him get any news time? Does he or anyone else really think he has a chance in he'll to be president? What an embarrassment! I have always thought that the people who complain the loudest about gays are still not sure which way the wind blows for them!

We are not losing the war on terror. Most people realize that Newt Gingrich is a terror and as long as we realize that, we are not losing the war.

Nothing has helped the cause of Al Queda more than GWB's invasion of Iraq. This was a propaganda gold mine for Al Queda. GWB could not have done more damage if he had personally burned a Koran in front of the press.

We are not losing the war on terror, because You Newter and the rest of your TERRORIST party are waging a war of terror on the Ameerican Citizen. If you want this country to win the war on terror, then you and your party should just shut up and follow the President. You are still to immature to hole public office again. Now, go home and play with you little barbi doll.

Is there a reason anyone cares what an out of office, out of the loop has-been has to say about anything?

Profound, mr. serial cheater Gingrich. Don't you lose credibility when you have cheated on your first wife with your second, then your second wife with your third? At some point, don't you have to "walk the walk" to be considered a serious person?

You are despicable. At least Clinton knew he did wrong.

What would this former nobody know about such sensitive information? Does he get the same briefings that the President, Defense Secretary and all the other PERTINENT entities in this matter receive? Is he privy to any of this? The answer is NO.

You know, I'm a willing participant in the pseudo-reality hashings that CNN passes off as political news. To call this type of reporting journalism would be a stretch for ANYONE's imagination. Tha machinations of our current political atmosphere, especially as they pertain to the ridiculous efforts on the part of the Republicans to undermine their number one enemy: the President, would be funny if they didn't affect the country negatively, and if they weren't so transparent in their efforts to achieve this end.

The only thing that is being lost beyond the shadow of a doubt, Gingrich, is your ever-dwindling mind.

Keep believing that the ONLY Terrorist in the world comes from "...madrassahs around the planet teaching hatred...." Check your own backyard and see what is BREWING!!!

I notice that ginGRINCH always LATCHES on to an event and turns it into his own private nightmare that he wants everybody to believe as part of his FEAR MONGERING!!

Um, Mr. Gingrich? You do know the Christian concept of marriage goes back less than 2000 years, right? That would be less than several thousand. Arguably, the concept of marriage as we now know it goes back less than 1000 years.
More revisionist history from a master of the art, I guess.
Oh, and by the way, we are losing the "War on Terror" for two reasons, 1) You can't win a war on a concept; and 2) You can't keep kicking a hornet's nest while at the same time saying "but they won't stop stinging me".

Isn't there, or shouldn't there be, some kind of law against this type of talk in a PUBLIC forum by someone in government? Isn't this PRECISELY the type of thing that was considered UNPATRIOTIC under Bush (as well it should've been)?
Who in their right mind would (1) say something like this, and (2) PRINT IT FOR THE WHOLE WORLD TO READ?

Well we know the answer to both questions don't we?
We are STILL at war, are we not? This type of talk is shamefully irresponsible, and quite frankly TRAITOROUS to our country and it's safety.

Of course there are more terrorists now.
Bush invaded Iraq and made the war a two front war and spread the army as thin as he could. Bush did more to help increase recruiting for the terrorists than anyone else could.
