Washington (CNN) - The Republican National Committee will tap longtime GOP operative Jeff Larson to serve as chief of staff on Thursday, CNN has learned.
Larson, 52, was CEO of the Republican National Convention's host committee in 2008. The Minnesota native is a former RNC Regional Political Director and worked for former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.
I hope he will influence his party to move in a more moderate social direction than the one in which the Tea Party has caused it to veer. I want Republicans to restore common sense to their agenda regarding issues like abortion, gay rights, the Ten Commandments, and–astoundingly–evolution, in which I still have faith.
For years after the cherry-topping phrase, "under God," was added to the Pledge of Allegiance, I omitted it. Strangely, there aren't that many occasions on which grown-up citizens say that pledge anymore.
