Palin calls potential rival 'Neanderthal'

Update: Santorum says he and Palin have spoken privately about the issue and are 'fine.'

(CNN) – Sarah Palin is mixing it up with potential rival Rick Santorum, suggesting the former Pennsylvania senator and presidential hopeful is a "knuckle-dragging Neanderthal."

The eyebrow-raising slap came in response to Santorum's recent comments that Palin was likely skipping an annual gathering of conservatives in Washington this weekend because of other "business opportunities" and her mothering responsibilities.

"I don't live in Alaska and I'm not the mother to all these kids and I don't have other responsibilities that she has," Santorum told conservative online radio host S.E. Cupp in comments that some commentators called sexist.

"Just because I'm a mom that does not mean that I didn't want to be there," Palin responded on Fox News Wednesday night. "I'm the proud mother of five…my kids don't hold me back from attending a conference."

"I will not call him the knuckle-dragging Neanderthal," Palin continued. "I'll let his wife call him that instead."

Santorum meanwhile maintains he never meant to insult Palin but was instead merely stating that she is a busy person.

"We've watched every episode of 'Sarah Palin's Alaska,'" Santorum said on Fox Wednesday. "We enjoy it. I know she has obligations to do other things outside of the work she does at Fox. I said I assume she has other things to do."

Both Santorum and Palin are contributors to Fox News.

How can evolution be true? One look at Sarah Palin and we all know evolution to be the biggest myth ever created. May God bless her.

Sticks and Stones little boys and little girls. This is an example of the temperament of the people who is running for political office, which is a great example of the reason why our representatives can be closed minded to others who do not believe as they believe.
Under developed Mentally and Emotionally equal child like behavior. Let’s find adults to run for our offices, we have dealt with people who are better at bickering than at using their mind to develop well conceived ideas and methods to fix the corruption that exists in our house of reps.
This behavior from these two should be obvious that these two cannot be mature adults or they simply choose to throw stones, which is not the type of personalities required to manage an office.

It's beginning to look as tho' some interbred Neanderthal blood in is all of us. And that bad weather in the Northern climes made us the survivors, rather than Homo Sapiens being superior.

I'm not defending Rick Santorum here, not by a long shot, but I have to say that Sarah Palin's taste for revenge never ceases to amaze me. Her first reflex is to counterattack. There's no thoughtful deliberation or measured response to criticism. Like a petulant 6 year old, she simply goes for the throat of anybody who dares to criticize her... and even some who don't. President Obama has never actually made any negative comments about Palin, yet she attacks him and his wife daily. The woman has no brains and no class.

What an incredibly nasty person Palin is. Too bad she didn't learn to just shut her mouth two years ago. She has no one to blame but herself for the position she is in today. On the other hand, it is also good that she didn't shut her mouth. Imagine this person being the president of our country. Luckily, everyone now knows what a shallow, self-serving, ignorant woman she is.

You know John McCain opened a Pandora's Box when he brought this woman on to national stage. One thing I will give Sarah is that she will bite and scratch and claw to get what she wants, and if she can't have it, she will make sure that no one else does, at least no other Republican does.

We are 2 years out and knuckle-draggers are just beginning to fight...

Why all bitterness for !!! This woman has no class. Is there anything Santorum has said which is not true?? Doesn't she have other business opportunities or mothering responsibilities?? It is absurd!

Can't stand Santorum, but I have to agree with him on this. Palin, a half-gov, is for sale, just like the Supreme Court. She's in this for the money.

    Good Lord, gimme a break!!
It seems as though Palin and her people scan the media outlets to see who is talking about her so she can respond to their comments. She just needs to give it a rest and not be so thin-skinned!!

I really laughed at her comment, "... my kids don't hold me back from attending a conference." She's right – she drags them along with her wherever she goes. And poor Piper, she probably hasn't been in school in the last 2 1/2 years!!

  15. Seriously?

She had to get her name in the news somehow. I truly believe this woman spouts off just because she likes to read about herself. And how better to make the news than to spew stupid, hateful soundbites. She makes mountains out of mole hills and that is the only thing she is good at. Sorry Sarah will never hold another policitcal office. She has become the policital clown of today's politics.

Both have IQs around room temperature. Why does politics continue to draw the absolute lowest common denominator? The people who are fit to lead this country are all private citizens who will never be on TV and want no part of this perpetual circus of bombastic idiots.

Once again, the cheerleader snaps back with a very mature reaction. Does she even believe in Neanderthals? Didn't she say the earth is only 5000-6000 yrs old and that evolution is a myth?

Wow, takes one to know one there, Sarah. You are the definition of "knuckle-dragging neanderthal". Or have you forgotten how you can see Russia from your back yard, or how you don't know which newspapers you read, etc. You and Mr. Santorum deserve each other.

  24. Michael in Houston of all people need to be careful about getting personal with your attacks and responses to others. Looking at you and your family as you cram yourselves down everyones throat, I dont think you have ANYTHING to be proud of and you are certainly not selling anything this country wants. You are a national embarrassment. And Rick Santorum isnt much better. Watching you two bottom feedeers going at it is pathetic. You both think your "cute". You are not.

Surely as someone who is openly a Creationist, Palin does not believe in the existence of Neanderthals? After all they are not mentioned in the bible and were certainly not present in the Garden of Eden.
