Limbaugh vs. Mrs. Obama part two

(CNN) - On his radio show Tuesday, Rush Limbaugh defended comments he made Monday about the first lady's food choices, calling the remarks "highly civil."

On Monday, he criticized Michelle Obama – who has tackled healthy eating as part of her platform – for a dinner of ribs she consumed on a recent visit to Colorado. The outspoken conservative host said it "doesn't look like Michelle Obama follows her own nutritionary, dietary advice."

But on Tuesday's show he expressed surprise at the "grief" he's since received:

"Some people are suggesting that my comments were below the belt," Limbaugh said. "Well, take a look at some pictures. Given where she wears her belts, I mean she wears them high up there around the bust line. Isn't just about everything about her below the belt when you look at the fashion sense she has?"

Limbaugh's comments cap off a week of jabs directed at the first lady over her campaign to fight childhood obesity, taking flak from Rep. Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin, among others, for encouraging mothers to breast feed their children as a way to keep obesity levels down.

Mrs. Obama was also the subject of a controversial cartoon last week on conservative journalist Andrew Breitbart's website, in which an over-weight depiction of the first lady is shown telling her husband, "Shut up and pass the bacon!"

A website devoted to Mrs. Obama's anti-obesity effort lays out how the waistlines of American children have been growing at alarming rates over the last 30 years.

Well, if taxes and regulations on business owners, whom Rush defends from liberal policies that are driving outsourcing, especially the 35% corporate tax rate that Mr. Obama and Congress are not lowering, then we will all be eating less, due to high unemployment and less income to purchase food that makes us fat.

But, maybe that would be a good thing!!

Just think, high health care costs would come down. And, the economic slowing that produces!

Completely putting aside the political differences and the fact that Limbaugh is an entertainer who makes his living with satire and poking fun at people, he is really coming off looking cheap on this one. He has battled obesity his whole life and only overcame it by getting rich enough to hire a personal chef to cook for him and tell him what to eat. He has admitted as much in interviews. And here he has a chance to show himself as a real person, not just a cartoon persona, and he can't even manage it. C'mon, Rush, what happened to your whole spiel about the "arena of ideas"? Are you that insecure about your stance on the issues, that you'd rather pick on Obama's wife for encouraging kids to eat healthy? You're not the Rush I used to listen to 20 years ago–that's why I don't listen any more.

move along folks nothing to see here. As the tea party and republicans get crazier and crazier each day. Our esteemed Mr. Limbaugh is left but one choice and that is to go hard or go home. Be even more disrespectful and more ridiculous. He is a glaring example of our desensitized society and the need to say and do things you would hope to teach your children not to do, just to remain relevant in the eyes of the ditto heads and to provoke a reaction from those that at least pretend to know better. This character has no respect for anything anymore and his antics are becoming more childish and less entertaining. Its time to lump him in with the many other bad vices we are bombarded with daily.

Libs looking to score points where non exist. Rush's point was NOT that she is fat, but rather that she is a hypocrit in telling all of us what to eat, and then eating everything in site herself. Note the SuperBowl party menu, and the Vail mega calorie meal. She's our Marie Antionette.

Seriously, the first lady, like many, many doctors and nutritionists have made recommendations on how to eat healthy.

    1. it doesn't mean you have to eat healthy all the time, the first lady has continuously said its about options.
    2. the biggest issue is moderation, any nutritionist will say you can have pizza once in a while or a burger.
    3. the people trying to call her hypocritical need to listen to her entire statements and not just the parts Rushie tells you.

I can't imagine that his wife is ok with him making such sexist comments. If this were just anyone making comments about someone's wife, I think there are very few who would object to this man receiving a punch in the jaw. I think Rush should consider himself lucky for Obama having a security team keeping him away because I don't know many men who would stand by and let you talk about their wife this way.

Let me get this straight . . . . This fatty is criticizing the First Lady on eating ribs? How many ribs has this right wing nut job porker chowed down on? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black – only this is a CRACK POT! Really? Seriously? What's next for Rush? He's going to tell kids to not take drugs while he keeps popping Oxycotin like it was candy? Really, this fat man needs to shut his mouth from his obscenities to chowing down junk food! Rush Limbaugh is the poster child – and, really, I mean "child" for the MORBIDLY OBESE MAN OF THE YEAR! This fatty fat-cat needs to be put on a diet – pronto!

Apparently Rush didn't learn the meaning of the word hypocrisy in his two semesters before flunking out at Southeast Missouri State University.

Rush Limbaugh has a "little sugar in his pants" is why he's criticizing Mrs. Obama. He ain't after her, he wants her man.

Rush limbaugh is a big blow hard. If gullible people would stop listening to this bigot he would dry up and blow away. He has no substance and is nothing more than a drug addict who makes money off his followers stupidity.

Rush is an idiot. Plain and simple he's an idiot, but he's back in the news energizing his base of fellow idiots so I guess he's being successful.

I bet when Nancy Reagan was promoting "Just Say No" Rush and Palin didn't have a problem with that. Or when Barbara Bush was pushing her literacy initiatives, did they think she should stop telling parents how to educate their kids? What about when Laura Bush was advocating her Women's health initiatives, where were they then telling her that women could take care of themselves? Of course they didn't have a problem with these initiatives, one because they were republican and two because they were the first ladies.

So to Rush and Palin, I say why don't you find an elected official to fight a battle with and let the first lady do what every first lady has done and that is talk about issues and work to help americans be better.

  16. Missing the point

The point that Rush is making, that most of the respondents to this article are missing, is that it is yet another example of the first lady's "do as I say not as I do" attitude. Just like her expensive vacation to Spain where most of it was on the taxpayers dime..when she and her husband are telling everyone else to cut back. It is not about the fact that she ate something fattening (i.e. ribs); she is thin and can certainly afford the fat and calories. The point is that she and her husband like dictators are trying to force unwanted rules down people's throats. I do however think that Rush should not bother going after something minor like this (it just diminishes him) when there are so many other major problems with this administration that are ruining the greatest country (despite it's faults) in all of civilization....(if you can think of another comparable, please let me know).

Rush is simply trying to divert attention from his latest wife's accidental comments about his "marital inadequacies." I mean, all you have to do is look at him to know he can't meet certain needs.

Just saw the comment from "Inmyopinion". ARE YOU SERIOUS? Yes, there is a problem w/anorexia and bulimia. I have three daughters, and the example they see in Hollywood IS kinda scary. But are you seriously trying to convince the rest of us(sane people) that people being too skinny is 10% of the problem in this country, that obesity is? As usual, people defending nuts on the right, using "fact free" arguments.

You do know that the effective tax rate, after accounting for the tax shelters and loopholes averages around 18%, right? Same as Ireland..... You DO KNOW what's happened to Ireland in the last couple of years, don't you?
Remember, McCain held Ireland up as an example of what our economy should be like, low corporate taxes and all..... until the bottom fell out of the Celtic Tiger.
Just one more example of how thes conservative ideas do not work.

Name one Republican President who actually left more money in the government than was there when he took office.... DARE YA.

Clearly Rush never learned that if you keep yourself healthy by having a good diet and exercise routine you can afford to chow down on a plate of ribs every once in a while. Thankfully, there are people trying to educate him. People like Michelle Obama. He may catch on someday, but, then again, he seemed to miss Nancy Reagan's message on drugs, didn't he?

Memo to lard ball... when you eat a healthy diet you can enjoy ribs or what ever from time to time and still stay healthy and trim. When you eat unhealthy all the time you become a blimpo and shorten your life. So, do us all a favor and fill your big mouth with lots of unhealthy food all the time.
